Just posted my first #nostr NIPs proposal. Adding support for mute list expiration for items. If adopted by clients, this would allow you to mute something for a specific period of time (as opposed to the current behavior of indefinitely). Implementation already in progress for #Damus (stay tuned). https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/pull/987
And just like that, the rate of inflation for #Bitcoin was just cut in half. #BitcoinHalving
What is your favorite #nostr client, and why?
That #ForAllMankind finale was amazing (as always). Really hoping we get a season 5.
So the latest #nostr #spam is a "dm-reporter" account. Do people really have nothing better to do than build these spam bots?
The collaborative nature of building on top of each other on #nostr is incredible. It's amazing to see how implementing one (relatively) simple NIP into @npub18m7…q955 unlocks a whole new world of ways for this platform to thrive.
@npub1nzr…36v5 now supports direct messages! Message the bot and ask it questions and it will reply with some useful information. This feature is in alpha, and still in active development. But wanted to ship it to get feedback.
On a more technical note, NIP-17 I couldn't get to work at all with it (only supports NIP-04). Asked in the #nostr telegram and didn't get any replies. If anyone wants to take a look and help debug, let me know. But I think #nostr is on track to fail miserably if developers can't even figure out how to use non-deprecated standards after spending days on it.
So happy that #Apple renewed For All Mankind for season 5 on Apple TV+! AND announced a spinoff show called 'Star City' today. #ForAllMankind
In what universe is @npub1sg6…f63m living in?!?! #Twitter or #X is NOT freedom tech. Maybe it used to be. But completely shutting down the API lost any sense of “freedom” it had.
Freedom is being able to use (or build) the client you want. Freedom is allowing you to view posts WITHOUT creating an account.
If Craig Wright truly is Satoshi, why doesn't he actually prove it? Shouldn't it be incredibly easy to sign & submit a transaction from one of the first wallets? What is even his reasoning for not providing concrete proof or evidence? #bitcoin
Saw a #Tesla #Cybertruck for the first time in person today. If you're wondering if it's as ugly in person as it is in the photos: it is.
Sometimes making the wrong decision is better than making no decision.
Most of the time associated types for enum cases in #Swift are not the right tool for the job.
Why doesn't the #Apple #Notes app support #markdown?
It's always good practice to control your #cryptocurrency keys. The thing I still can't figure out is it seems like this is FAR more complicated to do with #bitcoin #lightning network than #bitcoin main net.
Anyone have experience with setting up a system to retain full control over your #bitcoin #lightning wallet? Tutorials, guides, etc would be greatly appreciated!
Interoperability of social media protocols is great for all. Having more users and platforms you can interact with benefits us all. Huge shoutout to the developers building bridges and other interoperability systems.
For #nostr #developers how do you decide which relay URL to use? I have a system that transmits notes to multiple relays, but for things like reposts (NIP-18) struggling to decide how to determine which relay URL to use for that.
Obviously choosing an unreliable relay or a relay that eventually goes offline isn't a good practice. And it doesn't look like there is a way to define multiple relay URLs.
What do you all do for this?
After upgrading to #iOS 17.3 my #iPhone froze after entering my passcode on first boot. After a little bit it went into a recovery screen and asked me to enter my passcode twice. Then launched an "Attempting Data Recovery" screen for a while.
Luckily everything (as far as I can tell) seems to be working, but still scary regardless.
I have backups and everything, but restoring from backup is always a stressful hassle.
Well that sucks... #Apple Developer app on Apple TV keeps crashing when trying to load Platform State of the Union stream. #WWDC #WWDC24
Well that is fun. #Cloudflare DNS seems to be extremely unstable right now. Ping to 1.1.1.1 fails for a bit then succeeds for a bit before failing again. Can ping other IPs just fine, and observed from 2 different internet connections.
Can you seriously not use a #SwiftUI ForEach with a Set?!?! You truly have to convert your Set to an Array? Like why??? #iOSDev #Swift
Does #NDK support NIP-17? Trying to send an encrypted direct message to a user, but not seeing any documentation for it. #nostr #asknostr

So this is what people thought #Y2K was going to be like. #CrowdStrike #Outage #IT
@npub1nzr…36v5 on #nostr now supports radar images for certain types of delays! This took a lot of engineering effort throughout the entire stack to get working. #Mastodon & #Bluesky bots had this feature for a while, but due to the decentralized nature of #nostr this was more difficult than just uploading an image to a central server.
I'm not sure what you're saying, but the Paws on Pearl furs seem neat, but I haven't gone in a long time, and I don't go suiting or nothing. Furries aren't generally known to be accepting of bitcoiners. I've found more acceptance of being a furry bitcoiner than I have being a bitcoiner amongst furries, remarkably enough. Too many of them don't understand money. Regardless, it's a part of my identity, and has been for a long time, and I'm pretty unafraid of being out about it. Besides, it's better than doxing myself. Furries have normalized good opsec.
Anyway, I'm going to get a lot better about mirroring my same tweets over here on Nostr. This is a recent one I noticed I skipped. I figured I'd send it with Gossip with 24 bits of work in the note id :)
With sufficiently high amounts of proof of work, the less there is a difference between energy and money.
Testing PoW note. Gossip with 60fps setting is really smooth.

Mining rewards include both the block subsidy and transaction fees. The subsidy is what leads to inflation, but since it predictably halves every four years and that property of bitcoin has never changed, it is disinflationary. Transaction fees, however, are a consequence of bitcoin as a utility as a medium of exchange, unit of account, and store of value. However, Bitcoin the blockchain, is also useful for performing trustless trade, and timestamping records, and that's always been the case, even before SegWit. The hope is, Bitcoin's utility alone will outpace the necessity for inflation to keep it secure. Just something to keep in mind. But we should never compromise on block size, for if block space is easy to make. blockchains begin to break. And nothing has less utility than a blockchain experiencing network failure. And this is why those who once built on BSV are now buildling on Bitcoin. BRC-20 is the denouement of the Block Size wars. The small blockers won. And fees aren't even all that high; back in 2017, people were paying $100 in tx fees. We've come a long way since then.

Hey does anyone know any cryptos that won't end up in a rug pull? cc @npub1lrn…qnw5
Noted! For others on Linux, the command to do the above would be: tar --zstd -cvf gossip-db-backup.tar.zst .local/share/gossip/lmdb
zstd compression is definitely worth it; gzip compression for my LMDB directory produced a file 362 MB in size and took 1.6 minutes. zstd produced an archive 49 MB in size and took only 10 seconds.
I also experimented with xz compression; that produced an archive 37 MB in size, but that took over 4 minutes to compress.
The message defining those could be signed on a hardware device though, keeping the master key offline
Excited to see Carl Dong's development of a new kind of VPN: https://obscuravpn.io
Cool project!
I would emphasize that the user can move around using the arrows on the keyboard!
And for consistency, I would offer a keyboard shortcut (e.g., enter) to enlarge the photo when standing in front of it.
Adding mouse/trackpad navigation would be great, of course :)
nostrelite.com is still available for registration?!
@nostr_marketing you are lazy and SLOW!
Sweet. GL.iNet makes great OpenWRT powered devices, I have 4 of them in different places. https://www.gl-inet.com
Lol I'd never heard of Google Meet before
Sure. In fact I told that you have to swap to LN first, and from here then you can go onchain, with another swap of course :)
Agreed. I wonder if they use something similar to Bitcoin, but maybe powered by a Dyson sphere, and linked to other star miners using quantum teleporters. Something fun to imagine. A whole network of stars linked together by energy-money.
One thing few realize about software bugs is, the vast majority of bugs are actually just a thing someone hadn't thought to tell the machine to handle.
