That's true, the concept of 'following' is about to change on Nostr. It's still a relic from the LSM days, and a lot of Nostr developers have a hard time letting it go. For me, it's already the case that I follow tons of people without formally following them, through the Tribes feature. And I 'follow' a bunch of people now not because their posts interest me, but because of what they sell on the NIP-99 marketplace (I'll decouple that eventually inshallah) and so their offers get sprinkled into my timeline.

I think this product insertion into the normal Nostr feed can really work. Honestly, how often do you visit a Nostr marketplace? But your normal Nostr client is open almost every day.
And for the first time, I'm discovering that someone I follow actually sells a product that I've always wanted to buy. But so far, I've only seen providers from overseas; this one is right around the corner and delivers to me.
The concept could actually work, even from a market perspective. And I like having products sprinkled into my feed, because I know I can buy all of them with Sats.

Clique building on Nostr is brutal. If you're in it, you get celebrated for every little fart. If you're out, nobody notices anything from you. It's not about quality, it's about relationships. It's an unholy clique. And they want to solidify it even more with all these poorly thought out WoT mechanisms. That's one of the main reasons I want broad adoption. So that this group's interpretive dominance gets broken up and split among several other groups.

It's released right now in version 0.6.0. A bit beta since it hasn't been fully tested out in the wild yet. Feedback and bug reports are totally welcome.
Oh and the whole thing is implemented like an addon (new architecture). That means you can turn this feature on and off. When it's off, no marketplace code gets loaded into the app, and your client stays just like it was before.

Thanks for reporting this. The green artifacts are a known Linux issue. It’s not a NoorNote code bug but a video codec problem in the WebView (WebKitGTK) that Tauri uses on Linux. Your system is likely missing some GStreamer plugins needed to decode certain video formats. Try installing these:
sudo apt install gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly gstreamer1.0-libav
If you're on Fedora/Arch, the package names are slightly different.
After installing, restart NoorNote and videos should render correctly. The reason it works fine in your browser is that Firefox/Chrome ship their own video decoders, while Tauri relies on the system-level GStreamer stack.

I've had that happen a lot too. The reason for it is the deeply programmed bias in AIs. They were built from the ground up to deliver quick results. Even if they're dirty and sloppy, the main thing is that the user sees something on the screen fast. And then it uses, or should I say abuses, the user as a debugging tool to iteratively get closer to the (cleaner) solution.
But that's not something specific to AI either. It comes from our years long 'Agile Development' and 'Scrum' culture. Something that comes from the business side and got solidified in the dotcom era. In most cases, the bosses weren't technicians but business people, and they just couldn't deal with it in project management for their stakeholders that classic development needs a ton of upfront work like planning and design, and that for over 80% of the project time, you see absolutely nothing except code. That didn't work for them; they were too impatient. They wanted to see something quickly. That's why this Agile Development bullshit really caught on with them. And so, even before the AI era, a lot of bloated slop got produced.
AIs are just continuing this trend, even for features that really need long planning and research. They just dive right in, and the user is happy. That's the reasoning behind the programmed bias, which is hard to break and actually gets in the way of developing complex projects.
Unless you know how to break through that bias. 😏

I'm watching a history documentary about ancient Rome right now, and there's this scene where a politician from the Roman Senate is giving a speech. He's pretending to have the people's best interests in mind, but really he's just pushing his own political agenda.
Two thousand years later, today. Politicians are still using this primitive, simple trick to support their arguments, and everyone pretty much knows what's really going on.

Is anybody here using Nym VPN? I discovered them about a year ago, and last year the connection was not very stable. Then they did a user survey, and I guess everyone complained about that. This year it's running very smoothly. It's my favorite VPN provider at the moment. And apparently websites still don't recognize them as a VPN. Whenever I run into a situation where well known VPNs get blocked, I turn on Nym and it works.
(And no, I am not associated with them in any way and I don't get anything from them for advertising or anything like that.)

It's really weird that the work and school environment expects you to bring the same enthusiasm and performance in winter as in the sunnier months. That's unnatural. Sun = Vitamin D = more energy.
I've had the chance to live according to this seasonal rhythm before. Power through for 6 to 9 months and then 3 months of quasi-hibernation. That was in southern Turkey, of course, where spring kicks in by March and it's pleasantly warm until October or November. In December, January, February, the cold months, all activities got cut back by about 50%. In the other months, we hustled so hard that it covered bridging those three cold months too. I know this works better in warm areas than in northern countries.
Still, what's the point in the north of spending the cold months overloaded and on sick leave, when naturally you can deliver almost double the performance in the warmer months? Our economic system finally needs to recognize that we're subject to natural rhythms, instead of demanding the same performance the whole year as if we were robots.
