I went to 3 accountants prior to all of this and none of them knew about these regulations. That included PWC. I don't know what one is supposed to do in Spain to be honest. I once heard my wife talking to the tax man there (she's spanish) asking what to write for a particularly obscurely written question after they put in the regs a few years ago that one gets fined per error on a return. The lady on the phone said she had no idea, got her boss and she had no idea. The tax office literally had no idea how to fill out tax forms

Sorry, was multi tasking which is never a good idea. I'll make it as hypothetical example of what happened to me. Say myself and the programmer I worked with got a million bucks each and took 50% cash/share split.
My tax was 48% of 1m = 480k and I got to take 20k. When I come round to sell the shares, am not sure (neither was my accountant) whether just the 20% capital gains or again as income it would have been sell for 500k (assuming no gains) and pay 100k or 240k tax. Total tax of 580k or 720k.
He paid 10% entrepeneurs tax so 50k and then would have had to pay capital gains at 20% on the sale of shares or 100k. Total tax 120k.
Whilst I understand it was a very strange situation that I had not known about as it's very obscure, it still shows how bad it can get. In this case, I lived in Spain which was party to a tax agreement made within europe on taxes on sales of companies registered in USA. Spain pulled out of the agreement a few months after signing and that's where it sits right now.

My partners were not in Spain. They were in UK so totally different. Personally I don't understand anything when it comes to taxes. In spain it just seems to be go work, give everything to someone else and be grateful for good food. They were in UK and paid entrepeneurs tax of only 10% and only on cash portion. I stopped caring when I started stacking sats and left europe.

If something cannot be sold, I personally don't see how you value. However main point is my pertners were only taxed on the cash portion. They were taxed on actual realised cash portion. Rather a massive difference from me giving pretty much everything to tax man and them going off and buying second houses. All good fun!

I've seen a little discussion on the tax on unrealised gains. It sounds like a horror show for sure but I can attest to the fact that it's MUCH worse when it actually happens to you.
Set up company with some friends, get my ideas coded into a piece of software. Launch, not quite success but eventually sell. Deal is part shares, part cash and the purchaser wanted us truly vested in. I went 60% cash / 40% shares. Shares are in a private company and cannot be sold.
When I came round to tax time, my accountant informs me I have to pay tax on the full amount (i.e unrealised gains) and it was in Spain so top rate 45%. Should take too much to figure out I wasted years of my life setting up a tech company only for the government to take everything off me. I still have those shares I suppose and one day, maybe I'll be able to sell them, who knows? At least am not in Spain any more cause guess what? If I could sell them, and I lived in Spain, I'd pay tax again on that.
If they tax unrealised gains, 1929 market crash will look like a sunday picnic. In the mean time, if you are an entrepeneur, make sure to take a little time to check all the fine details in local tax code or you might be working ONLY to pay the salary of some public sector thief!

Exactly, hard to explain to outsiders. Last time I was in Bari, was wandering around with some family members and uncle started heading towards historic town center. My aunt (from UK) stopped and asked if it was ok to enter. Response was that outsider have been allowed in safely for a few years. Explaining things like that in this age to people just results in blank stares of incomprehension.
I then took my missus on a little tour around the south and she said she wanted to stop to take a pee. We were driving through Mondragone near Naples. I said I'd rather wait and when she asked why, I said look closer at the people and streets and where we are and pay more attention. After a minute or two she said she was very happy to wait a bit

Problem with Italy, always the chance of chequered family history! Especially in the south. I always wondered when I was visiting as a kid why so much deference was paid to my great uncle when we walked around. And that's the Italian part of the family I do know. It was only when my dad passed and my uncle mentioned the Naples side of the family and got a proper evil glare from my aunt that I found out there was another branch but they would not elaborate at all!

My chemistry teacher in school got the class to copy the introduction of the main text book for the course in first class. He then took all the bits of paper and put them in an envelope with no explanation. 2 years later, at the end of the course, we repeated tge excercise and he handed out the originals to compare. He just wanted to prove that studying chemistry wrecks one's handwriting. Only one person out of 27 (think am remembering correctly) had the same hand writing. All the rest looked an absolute mess, including mine!

If stray gas can be used for mining, is there a rational business model that is win-win to scaling up decentralised mining? A method thats rationally viable to offer less well off plebs to access free or cheap energy thst balances the drilling and production costs? Does it have to partially be altruistic? If one is a true believer in the potential of decentralised systems, is providing that resource, potentially at ones own expense potentially self serving in network resilience to protect ones own butcoin wealth. @npub1s05…eyhe got me thinking about the idea of deflationary paradigm as economic activity tends towards the lowest marginal cost of production which makes obvious sense with improvements in efficiency. Max Keiser also once mentioned that the next war was #Bitcoin vs AI. We are obviously going through an energy shift recently with Microsoft doubling it's energy use in a couple of years due to the expansion of data centers and we also see this reflected in chip manufacturer share prices etc etc.
We also now have true money backed by energy. A true representation of the principal value in human society. Wealth increases linearly with energy consumption.
Surely looking at all these elements means that potentially, the primary paradigm for the upcoming decades is a shift of success trending to those who understand and develop the methods that drive a push to the lowest marginal cost of energy. All energy conversion to value will allow smaller energy generation at the margins to potentially revolutionise all communities regardless of isolation based on their understanding of that pricipal. Many changes to human condition could result.
Maybe just repeating trodden path.... thinking and pondering!

Crazy thing for me was totally stopping, doing training and taking that seriously. First job and i end up being told by my boss to smoke a joint! Very first job was in the middle of the jungle in Gabon in Afruca and we went to see the local tribal chief in the rondavel in the lical village and he passed one round. Boss just told me later that he would cover any issues arising!

Yes Boa. I agree. I love snakes. Keep a reasonable distance but I love looking for them. Favourite so far to see in the wild was a golden coloured cape cobra in south africa. Found a few coral snakes in the garden here too which are stunning

A friend is visiting Costa Rica. One always expects to see a lot but we saw 4 Quetzal birds in a single tree and 3 sloths and over 20 tucans on a single short drive.
He definitely realises how lucky he is but for many, they visit and go away not having seen any of these things.
We should always remember that our perceptions are based on our experience and our personal experience of a the same situations or events as other people may not lead to the same perceptions. Listen accordingly!

Obviously got their priorities correct. I still never truly understood why i didnt have issues in the countries ive lived in where i just didnt bother correcting name on official paperwork. Have a friend who emigrated from Iran to Uk. They fucked something up on his name and date of birth and caused hell for him. Blew my mind it took over 10 years to fix. Decentraluse everything, call yourself Bob to everyone to make it easier to remember and be done! In costa rica, everyone uses whatsapp so on mine, name is close but nit correct. Makes it easier for me whn people contact me. If its someone i dont remember cause am an idiot, i know cause they use mt real name. If its someone i dont know reaching out from a community chat, they use the wrong name. Simple triage!

Going to be doing an introduction to nostr for local group. I have been very lazy learning as have been busy with too many other projects. I'd like a little help. Have found some good guides available to get up to speed but have a few questions.
I use Primal and coracle on web and have nostrconnect on browser. Is this best nsec plugin? I see many comments on #Alby but just get bad gateway when trying to find any info. I have #Damus on an iphone to show and also use #Amethyst on Graphene.
My plan is to put nostr connect on laptop and then set up new nsec on there with people and go through process with primal but I need the most simple process for setting up, guide on nsec security, most simple way to connect wallet and wallet recommendations for total newbies to nostr/bitcoin.
Currently just looking through nostr.com and nostr.how. Just realising how much of a minefield this will be for newbies and how much confusion I could cause. Any suggestions?

I met an old peasant closeby when visiting a regenerative ag project. Started chatting. Turned out hed spent past 40 years going out every day and planting seedlings. All the trees i could see up hillsides and following the streams. He had totally restored the local water system and stopped soil erosion single handedly. Mind blowing!

So I’ve been thinking about political labels a bit. Now we know that communism is statism where the state takes full control of capital allocation and becomes a tyranny. Fascism, the state is co-opted by corporates and capital allocation is in their favour under a statist tyranny. In effect, they’re both sides of the same coin. That being the case, should we not term people together under one banner who fall under “left” or “right” doctrinal perspectives? Makes it easier for people to see through the bullshit right?
That being the case, I’d propose mixing the two words as a hybrid: Fascionists! 🙄 (my head was going more Spanish with Fascionistas)

Today i cancelled a new contract before instalation for internet and 2 mobile phone contracts. Service was great from sales and then everything for organising install was carried out through time wasting AI chatbots on whatsapp. Their loss. I dont care if you save 10-20 employee costs using this. You simply have no right to waste peoples time like this. What could be organised in a 2 minute voice call ends up as 2 hours of circular gibberish? Do not deserve my custom! I sincerely hope others do the same as we will end up in a society with zero service and great frustration otherwise

That's the thing, I don't personally think it gets worked out. It's all good. I take them for walk in countryside and he doesn't attack anyone. When we see people, I whistle and he comes and sit waiting for me to put the leash on as if he's saying he wants to be controlled. He just seems to need to mark people if they come to the house. If friends actually listen and bend down and face him and wait for him to come to them, no problems. At what point is an animal a problem in some way. I don't personally think he's doing anything wrong if he's afraid, it might be up to other not to make him feel that way.
Am sure in the modern world, to many people that sound irresponsible but here in costa rica, we have loads of street dogs and strays. I know many people who've been bitten. Every time I hear of it and I ask if they backed up when dog was being agressive, making sure not to turn their backs, I find they all did the same thing. Turn round and get bitten on the back of the calf. It is a standard attack for a dog. Is the dog responsible for the person's ignorance?

Escalation is happening in many places and in different ways. I know someone here in Costa Rica who is a highly respected vet. He got thrown out of a chat group today by a secretary of minister of agriculture for pointing out new legislation on animal husbandry would result in less food for people and reduction of individual rights regarding rearing of animals. The attacks on freedom are global and supranational.

He's the softest thing in the world and yet his favourite flavour is human ankle. Most bizarre combination. He seems to need to bite everyone at least once. He's done it to me and all my firned. Just a little nip and then everything ok. He actually drew blood on me and one of my friends. Trying to train it out but it's fear because he's a rescued runt. The traumas of childhood!
