Orange/purple pilling can feel so impossible because people are usually acting against their self interest. In all parts of their lives. They can't imagine something better so how could they pursue it?
The Attention Protocol story happens in a universe where Bitcoin and Nostr are undeniable. The love story is modern. The problems are relatable. I wanted to give non technical people access to this world. Teach them the basics. Help them imagine what could be possible. Then guide them into Nostr to comment/engage about the book.

Loud Iranians supporting the war are intimidating the ones who don't support the war.
So maybe you are confused why you're hearing that Iranians are happy right now. Some of them are.
The ones who understand U.S. history are very worried and unhappy. And specifically patriotic Iranian *Americans* oppose this unconstitutional war. Because Trump is acting like the Ayatollah. Without congress.
Please, let's all be rational as we consume information about a "group" of 90+ million in Iran and 5+ million diaspora.

There are members of the diaspora on Nostr as well but no one actually knows each other. We need real, existing communities to join on together. So information can regularly flow.
Two years ago I tried to get some activists with hundreds of thousands of followers to join and they simply said they didn't have the bandwidth to learn a new app.
So they desperately post 50 times a day on IG now while they get shadow banned.
We are unfortunately just far too early.

Most depressing part of the this all is that the Iranian diaspora is relying on Instagram to tell them what going on. Which Israel controls.
So inside and outside of Iran the narrative is so controlled that (dumb/brainwashed pick your adjective) Iranians everywhere are convinced people are happy to be bombed.
90 million+ people somehow already have the narrative shaped about them hours after a war began.
This is why Nostr is so important.

I wanted a book cover that would actually trick the reader. A title with multiple meanings. Only hints of technology. A light, beach read that ends up showing you a world the governments and media told you to be afraid of...

How can the experience of reading change now that we have Bitcoin and Nostr?
I wanted my book to be free. For anyone to access.
I wanted to publish every chapter as a long-form note. So people could engage socially on each. And comments would all be consolidated in one place.
I wanted it to feel like the e-reader experience people are used to from other legacy apps.
So @nprofile…met8 made me a library app for my book! To display the long-form notes like a book. With a "break the fourth wall" at the end of each chapter button that brings them into Primal for the full Nostr onboarding experience.
This was my vision for the future of reading. And the book itself teaches Nostr. A fully immersive experience for the reader.

Generating revenue without ads is close to impossible.
That's why we need to force a change on the business model itself.
You own your attention on Nostr. You should be able to sell it directly to someone without a platform getting your cut. Advertisers pay platforms to facilitate that exchange. No one is exploited.
