It'll probably give up after some seconds trying and unmount the directory, this behavior should be default, because making the whole system unresponsive due to I/O delays is not something that makes sense.
That being said and just as I was typing the above, I just remembered that the machine where I had this particular issue uses a realtime kernel. Why you might ask, I dunno, ask those mongoloids from Debian as to why Wireguard requires rt Linux rather than just shipping Wireguard with the regular kernel.

The problem I'm talking about is not people being unable to do it themselves, what I'm saying is that unless they show a bare minimum attitude or will to change you should not interfere, because they didn't reach a point where they understand why they need to change and how. I already said that helping them is fine so long they do the first step in seeking help, but even then you shouldn't do everything they ask on their behalf, because they will just build a toxic relationship where they do even less than they did and they depend on you for anything, I've seen that shit happening all the time, when it comes to depression you're your own worst enemy.

Whatever garbage printer's output is can't be eligible for copyright in most countries either way because it wasn't printed by a person, and therefore there's no conflict with GPLv2, "provenance" doesn't matter when the code itself has no copyright attached to it either, the four freedoms are still there with such code and if it's a big deal you can study that code and re-implement it.
You'd have a better argument if you simply said the code is trash and no responsible project would allow it in their codebase, but so is many code written by real people and nothing's done about it.

I also use Debian on a server as a QEMU hypervisor where I run VMs for some stuff, but my main uses Void and Gentoo and I surely wouldn't trade either for anything else. That being said, I'm pretty sure Void is great for server shenanigans, some Raspberry I have runs on that and it's arguably the best thing you can install on a RPI.

Create a network bridge, give it an IP or two and add both the ethernet NIC and the WLAN NIC to it, then tell the WLAN NIC to broadcast an access point, everything connecting to that AP will be routed to the gateway, which is the shitty ISP router. You can do all of this with nmtui.

You can however create a bridge and place that laptop somewhere where your main router has shit coverage, that's what I do, there's no double NAT anywhere. Most ISPs will handcuff routers behind PPPoE and then refuse to disclose the credentials so you can replace them with something that isn't shit.
