We just concluded week 6 of the Mastering Bitcoin live cohort. 📚
This week focused on understanding how the Bitcoin blockchain works and how new blocks are created through mining and consensus.
Participants explored the structure of the blockchain, including how blocks store transaction data, how blocks are linked together using cryptographic hashes, and how the block header contains the key information used to secure and validate each block.
The cohort also examined merkle trees and how they efficiently organize transactions inside a block, allowing nodes to verify transactions without needing to download the entire blockchain.
In addition, we studied the mining⛏️ process and Bitcoin’s proof‑of‑work consensus mechanism, learning how miners compete to solve cryptographic puzzles, how difficulty adjustments keep block production consistent, and how block rewards and transaction fees incentivize miners to secure the network.
We also discussed how consensus emerges across the distributed network, ensuring that all nodes agree on the valid chain while maintaining Bitcoin’s decentralized and trustless design.
Throughout the week, participants reviewed the assigned materials, collaborated with their partners, and worked through discussion questions to deepen their understanding.
During the live session, participants shared insights with the group and the faculty led the discussion on key ideas from the readings.

I know a lot of you folks are the praying type. Would you please keep my family in your hearts today? We lost one member over the weekend (my dad's younger cousin, only in her 50s, far too soon) and we are having her funeral today and I have an aunt (my mom's oldest sibling) going in for emergency, necessary surgery who may not make it out. (She would die for sure without it but the doctors are worried her heart can't handle it.)

If I'm not mistaken it was common for musicians to pay to get their songs on some radio stations, and it is common still for them to pay to perform on some relatively large events.
They of course only do this for a while, then they either get famous and start being paid for it instead, or they give up and become vibecoders.
Fair point, thanks for the feedback. The bootstrap nodes are a real dependency and worth being upfront about. The DHT itself is decentralised once running, but the initial bootstrap does touch those domains.

learning to drive stick created a few "oh shit" moments for me.
the worst was only a few days after receiving my graduated driving license with restrictions. my best friend and I drove over to another friends house at night and after driving past the friends house, I pulled into a drive way to turn around on the residential street. I didn't think quickly and stop myself, I urched nose first down a steep driveway that ended at their overhead garage door. I slammed my foot into the brakes as my back tires came across the sidewalk, stalling the car. I fired up my red Vista Eagle and attempted to make way out and back up the driveway onto the road, but I stalled the car and further down the short driveway I went, inches from the garage door. I thought I was finished. I looked to my best friend and I said, this is it, here we go. I reset myself and backed up the driveway, onto the road, without incident and parked infront of my friends house.
