Harvest is now complete. I got four quart jars of somewhat larfy - but very sticky - bud and a bunch of trim for tinctures and edibles.
The way I go through it, this will last... I bet at least a year. And that's assuming I've already used up the stuff from previous grows, which I have not yet. Like... not even close.
I think it smells amazing in here.
Not sure the rest of the family agrees.

WE design, build, manufacture, transport, deliver, stock, market, and sell everything that makes up the "economy".
Per capita, we make the very least and own practically nothing.
We pay mortgage and rent in exchange for the "right" to live in a home - no other guarantees.
We take out loans to acquire cars to take us to our jobs, which we need to pay back those loans.
The people building, etc. those cars make a fraction of what the people who claim ownership of the factories take.

The answer to all of this is to keep a wary, but limited eye on the rest of the world, but put all of the rest of your focus on the communities that matter to you - your family, your friends, your neighbors.
Your job is a shitty community,. I'm certain your co-workers are awesome people. You work cooperatively and collaboratively with them, but are also expected to compete against them for promotions, etc.

I worked at a large tech firm where the women told every new hire to not get into an elevator alone with one of our highest ranking executives.
He had a reputation for sexual harassment.
Why didn't they complain to HR?
Well, that's just it... they did.
But this exec... well, he's SUPER tight with leadership, especially the investors. Because his team was responsible for bringing in massive amounts of revenue.
Moral of the story: Bring in enough cash, you can harass with impunity.

That means I spend at least as much time reviewing and rewriting its code as I would just coding it myself.
New coders, or those who have no programming experience, surely have better experiences with it than I do, precisely for that reason. If it;s 85% accurate, that's 85% more accurate than someone who doesn't know how to code.
I'm at least 85% accurate in my own coding. So it's just not worth it to me.

So, yeah, great - we have all this capability of analyzing reams of data.
And the Gen AI companies have already sucked up all the data they can possibly find.
And their tools still hallucinate and lie, often in difficult to perceive ways.
I remain impressed by the amount of vibe coding happening and the results.
But, as an experienced developer, I simply can not trust this tool. It has been confidently wrong with code far too many times in my experience.

It would be great if we had any other GPU manufacturers in the world aside from Nvidia - their architecture and ability to execute has absolutely benefited from all this AI BS. Techniques for multi-dimensional math that leverage the full capabilities of GPU processors open the doors for all kinds of data analysis across so many fields.
If only Nvidia weren't hoarding all this knowledge like a dragon hoards gold.
Ironically, Jensen Huang is the dragon in both metaphors.

Vector and graph DBs are unreasonably effective for many search applications. They weren't invented by or for AI, but their development has definitely benefited from the association.
Deep learning techniques are tremendously helpful for pattern matching across countless dimensions and petabytes of data - super helpful for analyzing medical research results to find unexpected correlations worthy of further study. They're also not new, but AI has furthered their use and research.

Like, yeah, it's very impressive and getting better... but in small increments.

I've long suspected the entire tech industry was nothing more than a giant money laundering operation - laundering money from public interests and governments directly into the hands of private investors and the wealthy.

I live in a tech industry bubble - I always have.
Since the tech industry in so deeply in bed with the current US administration, folks outside the industry are more aware of it than they have ever been.
As I consider this, I realize how many people I know who are outside the industry who do not have any real perspective on all this AI stuff.
Many of them barely visit websites unless they have to. Few spend a ton of time on social.
AI is at the tail end of Tech's diminishing returns.

Clearly it's not a producer economy - AI hasn't done much to grow food, build homes, mine and farm resources, sew clothing, etc.

I notice you're in the UK - at least, I think that's the case.
I'm in California. I have done an extensive amount of traveling throughout the UK and Europe. Our systems are very similar on the surface, but the differences cut so deep I honestly think we're incapable of truly understanding each other.
So this may be a problem unique to the US. Our country is *MASSIVE* - no one seems to understand that.

Trump didn't win because people believed he;d be a good leader - he won because they knew he would tear it all down.
If the ballot choices were "Trump", "Biden/Harris", or "Eliminate our current system of government all together", the voter turnout would be the highest in history and the third option would win by an overwhelming landslide.

Most of us, if given the chance, would do just about *ANYTHING* other than our job if we didn't need the money.

Like, are these fuckers going to contribute to replace my roof? No.
Will they pay to replace my fence? No.
Will they do *ANYTHING* to make living here more comfortable for me? LOL, fuck you, no.
Yet, I'm expected to pay them ~$5,000+ a month for the right to live in my home.
Even after they fucked the economy in 2008.
Even after they let more homes be purchased by PE to rent out instead of promoting community self-sufficiency.

I always get this way around the end of the month because I am so resentful of the fact that I have to pay a significant portion of my meager income to a bunch of rich, faceless assholes just for the right to live in "my" home.
80% of Americans do not own their homes - they either rent or pay a mortgage.
American "Freedom" and "Liberty" are lies intended to keep us docile.
I'm fucking tired of being docile.

I've been asking here for #Fediverse instances that are more focused on community building, and y'all have delivered - thank you!
It got me thinking... it's not enough to *know* about these things, folks need to learn how to set these instances up - from git clone to finding a suitable host / port forwarding your home server, to actually maintaining the thing.
Giving some thought to doing some Twitch streams where I struggle through this live.
Would you be down to watch?

Looks interesting, but their website doesn't seem to reinforce much of a commitment to open source and self hosting. I had to click through two pages to find their GitHub link buried in a paragraph.
Automattic has me *VERY* wary of this approach to "open source" and "community".

So, #Fediverse: Mastodon is fine and all, and PeerTube and PixelFed have their well deserved fans as well.
But none of these are really good for community organizing.
I'm working on something, but it's taking WAY too much time, and I kind of need something now.
I find Friendica and Lemmy to be... not enough. What I want is federated forum-like threaded conversations - a federated Reddit combined with Facebook thing to get my local schools and stuff off of Facebook.
Suggestions?

Actually, I need to post the full placement so you get the entire ridiculous effect of having an article featuring *the pets of dead celebrities* as equally weighted with *Israel bombing civilians*.
On a traditional newspaper layout, the top right story is the lead.
This just seems... aggressively thoughtless.

The biggest frustration with the enshitification of everything is that we have to go back and *rebuild* everything to disconnect it from the enshitifiers.
