A lifetime ago, I worked tech support for a shitty, buggy program. Greetings and Closings were scripted, as well as about 75% of answers to known issues.
We were required to be overflowing with joy at the program, with consequences if you slipped up.
Underpaid, high stress with a real possibility of contracting a neurosis from being on the phone with nasty customers for 8 hours a day.
Now I'm getting deja vu just living in this country.

It's pretty scary because these cuts and the resulting lack of information comes at the exact time when severe weather ramps up fueled by climate change, and contagious disease is getting much worse.
Being on top of locations that report disease carrying ticks and mosquitos could be lifesaving but that information is really hard to find now.

I think I may be more pissed off at the Dem party than the Reps. The Reps basically told us what we're in for.
But the Dems held to the establishment, even though EVERYONE knew it was a really, really shitty idea and could get Trump reelected.
Then, when it happened, barely a peep from them. When they do come out and resist, keep an eye out for what they're protecting. Is it really the people? Or is it themselves?
There are no redeeming qualities left.

Amazon Prime just overinflated its own importance. I'll be ending my subscription very soon.
They can't offer a Crunchyroll (Anime) subscription with full access to the Anime library, then decide to lock out a single episode in the middle of a series to watch for an extra charge. They just FAFO'd themselves into losing both my Prime and Crunchyroll portal subscriptions.
I'll get a HDMI cable to connect Comp to TV and watch Crunchyroll directly.

I think apolitical leadership is still widely unpopular.. but gaining! The only administration I'd support at this point would be one that drops political affiliation, enacts ranked choice or popular vote, remove all policies (Parliamentarian, Filibuster, etc...) that muddy the waters and can be manipulated... comprehensive vetting, age/term limits... I'm sure I missed a few.
A fresh start is the only thing that's going to get the peoples support

I intensely detest corporate machinations. They treat people like fodder, and use ingrained scare tactics to get their money.
They expect you to fold to meet their demands. Don't ever give in.
If you have pent up anger with no outlet, direct it to them. They got us here. They created this house of cards.
Focus your anger towards the ones who most deserve it. They should get no sympathy for any action you may take to topple them.

Back in another life, when I worked at Luskins (electronic store), the CFO... a greedy, sweaty obese toad of a man used to waddle through the store handing out idle threats and demean the staff.
That was my first experience with greedy wealthy people who thought themselves superior to everyone else.
He set the standard for how intensely I despise them, and many politicians fit that profile too.
I have no respect, sympathy, remorse nor compassion for them, which is why I stay very far away.

Oh we'll definitely feel it. Putin isn't out to "make friends" with Trump. He's out to take over the country. Putin is more than willing to give Trump shallow lip service because that's easy. The simplest way possible to gain access to US records.

The small business model is full of strife and struggle, with a 50% chance of failing within 5 years.
The wealth can afford a team to grow their business, regardless of the astronomical sums these professionals charge. A failure in their business means move to a backup plan. Small businesses can't afford one of those.
You can call me an owner, a CEO of a little dot on this planet that functions to help other businesses get online.

Each one will tell you you need to hire another to fill some kind of gap where your business fails to function.
I witness this for my clients fall into this. They become addicted to the growth concept and throw away their money on recommended "improvements" that barely align with their business models.
I've seen this time and time again. These people are my own clients. I've seen the stress of that perceived need affect their health as well.

I have to negotiate on the regular. If I go cheaper then I have to adjust the development timeline to make up for those lost costs.
The struggle is real and organization / sorting of projects is key to keeping my head above water.
It shouldn't be this way. Expanding my business becomes an endless cycle of need for other professionals in various fields to help that growth. Each one will open the doors to their treasury and require you to throw all your money in before they help you.

I don't raise prices in terms of profit, but of survival. The ability to buy necessities to keep me alive.
I have trouble sending an invoice, because the charge seems too much... way too much. It is hard for me to reconcile the fact that people expect these kinds of charges in my head. Even though as I said, I charge way less than industry standards. Maybe a quarter of what other agencies charge.

Finance and invoicing, project organization and timing, solution propositions to new clients, design, code, server admin... it's all a loose organization that involves lists, memory, research, and generally figuring stuff out.
After all this, I'm finally getting to the point of this little bio.
I've managed to keep my prices way below agency levels because of my methodology. But inflation has impacted me just as greatly as everyone else.

Advertising/marketing have no ethics. Recruiters have questionable ethics. I've used 0. All my business has come word of mouth. I've partnered up virtually with various professionals where we interchange clients.
I'm not a professional on any kind of paper. I'm more of a web handyman, throwing my wares around with confidence like a man with a booth in a festival. It's all field-genius from my years of experience.

Yes, I did crash a couple of times early on and picked up agency jobs for a short time. But that was jumping right back into a toxic environment. Both times.
My goal wasn't to build an empire. It was to build something stable where I could survive on my own terms. My methodology wasn't to use marketing agencies, recruiters or advertising gimmicks, or even Google's cloud to get ahead. It was to buck the system. Completely.

So I left that miasmic environment and went solo. Freelance Web Dev. That was in 2003.
I've now kept my little boutique freelance business operating for 22 years. Over 18% of small businesses fail within the 1st year of existence. In the first 5 years, that number jumps to 50%. These numbers are arguable. It appears that each snippet of research has differing results, so this is a subjective number. But it still shows the difficulty.

I experienced the betrayal and cruelty of the music industry both 1st and 2nd hand. How it crushed up and coming musicians and the abusive mental effect it had on them which carried on for years afterwards. Personally, I couldn't cope and eventually gave up.
So web dev it was. I would call working in technology more of a controlled toxicity, where music was a chaotic one. Even so, after a few years in it, it punished both my mental and physical health.

My dream was to be a professional musician. I was a keyboardist and a pretty good one. I was usually in more than 1 band at a time for years.
I kept that musicians dream alive well beyond my technology stint. But my backup dream was to be a web developer.

I've also been observing this, and I think I have an answer that would fit nicely with quite a few .
I spend a lot of effort maintaining my health (sans insurance) and working harder and harder to afford necessities.
All the while, landlords raise rent, corporations take more and more, and advertisers tell you that it's wonderful that you're buying from them.
I decided that to save energy and sanity, I would restrict my morals to my fellows in the population who struggle as I do.

There is a saying among studio engineers when a musician can't nail their part "we'll fix it in the mix".
Hardly anyone gets this, but our society can't be "fixed in the mix". A democratic election 5 years from now isn't going to make everything peachy.
It's already destroyed, we're just coasting down the road until we come to a stop.
Now's the best chance to rip out all the broken shit (like almost everything) and rebuild it from the ground up.

I had fiber hooked up recently, and since my WiFi antenna was old as dirt, it didn't pick up much speed at all, so I ran a Cat6 direct to the computer.
I'm still on FaceBook, because our small town uses it for community news, traffic closures, etc...
Now when opening FaceBook with the fiber connection, I get this on first try.
Can't say for sure, but my intuition tells me something nefarious is going on and the fiber speed is opening a window that they wanted kept closed.

I'm not religious, but one thing in the Bible has always stuck out for me. Paraphrased "turn your back on the devil".
In a modern society, my interpretation is "abandon them, don't support them, don't buy from them".
This is the peoples workable solution to the wealth gap. Don't support the wealthy. Don't buy from large corporations. Abandon them.
They rely on us to stay wealthy. Abandon them. We can do this.
