I've abandoned budgeting years ago. Since I've bacame bitcoin billonaire. Just joking 😁 (I never stopped budgeting despite of my billions😁)
Do you think Spark and Ark require comparable fees to exit unilaterally? Have you seen a similar study for Ark?
This data liveness requirement is painful but I think comparable to the pain of expiring VTXOs in Ark. There you already always have the state to publish for the unilateral exit but you (wallet or watchtower) must monitor the expiry deadlines.
Of course the other thing is that ark operators are less trusted since they cannot conspire to steal funds.
However I still love Spark because at the end of the day operators don't have enormous liquidity requirements and this will make a big difference in adoption.
Also in Ark has that constant periodical refresh from user wallets, that doesn't look good to me. I don't necessarily open my wallets every month and this is going to be a problem when a lot of users realize this (or have to pay extra for a refresher service).
All in all love the innovation of the L2 space
I stopped using Spark wallets many months ago... 🤷♂
Basically, if something happens in Spark, the miners will be very happy... 😅
I strongly recommend @Zeus (LND embedded), which now works really well... 😎👍

Ark (bark) launched like couple weeks ago. Spark had head start. I haven't followed arkade recently...
Can the wallets be optimized to always try doing the lowest number of leaves? So when you actually need to exit, it's only a couple...

Correction: "seed only, no operators" compressed two steps. The leaf data (recovery bundle) must be fetched while operators are online. The exit itself then needs nothing from them: seed + saved bundle is the accurate claim. Full mechanics and costs: https://github.com/blinkbitcoin/spark-unilateral-exit/blob/main/docs/mainnet-exit-case-study.md

They didn't Christoph, they lied. They pulled the recovery data from a spark operator using their mnemonic.
Yes, correct, one either keeps a server up with their seed or the mobile does it.
In Blink we will have event-driven and likely also periodical refresh built in.
Problem is any time you transact (and sometimes other times!) the “recovery bundle” changes. So you can’t back it up/download it, your wallet needs to support this natively (and I don’t believe any do).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyKOmAQIP_g
The data-availability dependency is real and worth stating exactly, so let's state it.
Operators never hold your key and can't move funds without your signature - that part is unconditional. Unilateral exit works through pre-signed refund txs that pay to a key only you control, and those txs plus their ancestors are the "leaf data" in question: your device co-signs them at claim time, ancestors come from a query. Until a wallet persists that data, forcing your funds on-chain depends on operator liveness. Grubles is right that no wallet ships this today. That gap is the entire reason I built and published this tooling instead of just claiming "non-custodial" in marketing copy.
What the dependency actually is, once you persist the data:
Bounded: everything covered by your last refresh exits without any operator, forever. Exposure is only what changed since then. With refresh wired into every claim, that window is one transaction.
Detectable: withholding means your refresh fails right after your claim succeeded. You notice, you stop receiving, you exit with what you have. - Compare a custodian, where withholding looks like normal operation until the withdrawal freeze.
So on the spectrum: weaker than Lightning, where your node holds channel state by construction. Much stronger than custodial, where they hold both keys and data and you detect nothing. "Self-custody of keys with a bounded, detectable data-availability dependency" is the honest label.
Wallets that don't manage that dependency for users are shipping the weak end of the spectrum. Mine included, today. That is what is being fixed, and the case study is the receipt that the exit half already works:
https://github.com/blinkbitcoin/spark-unilateral-exit/blob/main/docs/mainnet-exit-case-study.md
You needed the operator to give you the leaves in the first place

The only way to get the offchain data from the operators why they are online.
Wallets should (Blink will) implement periodic background polling for data.
Find the case study here if getting 404 from github:

The repo was just made public, might be lagging to show:

I am curious to check it out, but the link is not working for me.
How would you derive the Offchain data for the recovery from the seed without the operator?
How does your experience compare to this view?
https://x.com/notgrubles/status/2074624676978962867
I just force-exited a non-custodial Blink wallet (using Spark) on Bitcoin mainnet.
Seed only - no operator cooperation: recovery bundle, fee funding, CPFP signing and sweep all derived from the wallet seed.
The honest numbers for a 100k sat wallet:
• 22 leaves, 253 tx packages to exit fully
• only 4 leaves (90% of the value) were worth exiting - fees would have eaten the other18
• ~9.4k sats in fees to recover 90.1k, one package per block per chain, then a ~2-week timelock
Non-custodial means you can always leave. But the fire escape is narrow - full case study with costs, failures and lessons:

I am testing Nostr Nests rooms in Amethyst and they stay permanently on “Reconnecting.”
I tested both the public Nostr Nests audio server and my own self-hosted server.
For my own server:
- the room event has the correct tags:
["auth","https://talk-auth.letsfo.com"]
["streaming","https://talk.letsfo.com:4443"]
- Amethyst successfully authenticates repeatedly against my auth server
- my server receives UDP traffic from Amethyst on port 4443
- my MoQ relay replies to Amethyst over UDP
- but Amethyst never finishes connecting and stays on “Reconnecting”
The same reconnecting behavior happens with the public Nostr Nests server too.
Is there a known issue with the current Nests/MoQ room implementation in Amethyst, or any debug logging I can enable on Android to see why the connection does not complete?
But it is not really simultaniously or is it?

Where communism went wrong was in assuming that you could solve for this by collecting all of the gold, so that the collective can make the rules.
Where laissez-faire capitalism went wrong was in assuming that the possession of the gold doesn't determine who makes the rules. It does.
Both of these systems centralized the gold and then centralized the ruling.
We were all supposed to have some gold, so that we can all participate in the rule-making, and so that we can defend ourselves affordably, when the rules are breached to our detriment.

Oh trust me I know. As a student it costs 700 euro a year and I have to keep going back and getting temporary paper health cards every 3 months.
The physical card arrives at the end of the year when the coverage expires 😆
Didn't bother enrolling this year and just went private. But random entities like banks need a 'valid' heath card sometimes and won't accept expired ones or the CF card.
Italian bureaucracy is an abomination.
I don't even know. 😂 There are like 5 of these going around and they're all basically the same, but different.
For clarification: it's better than anything else _to me_. I don't need any other users to justify the cost of development because the resources invested in it are so incredibly low.
I'm vibe-coding an Android client. It's also better than anything else. 😂 I'm amazed at it.
Easy to jump over predecessors, when development and maintenance costs are so cheap and you can read everyone else's code.
You can see what everyone did wrong and start out doing it differently, whereas they have a loyal user base to cater to, that will demand small, incremental changes.

I actually can remember the time when Libertarianism was a bunch of homeschooling hippies living communally. Planting organic heirloom tomatoes, smoking pot, and unschooling their kids. And then some social conservatives decided to do something similar, but less chill and with Bible Study. And we called that "Paleo-Libertarianism", and I told everyone I was a Libertarian and we all were happily voting for Ron Paul for Pres, and protesting the bank bailouts, and Marching for Life, and stacking silver coins and canned pickles, figuring out how to culture sourdough, and teaching our children Latin and Plato.
And then the Big Money moved in and turned it all into a political lobby for the Super Rich, and I checked out.
We were the people who made economics work sustainably by loving other people more than money. But that was always a small club and the Super Rich were never in it.
I remember.
My only advice I can give. Lower the expectation . It is not possible for anyone to get a definitive perfect decision.
The best we can do is lower probabilities for desaster.
Therefore I suggest to calm the fear and being ok, with inperfect decisions. In the end one needs to belief, that whatever decision is made with good faight. And still being fine, when the decision was the worst of all choices.
Since this will inevitably happen sometiems. Sometimes we misunderstand the information we got presented. Sometimes we are presented false information. Sometimes we lack the important information. And there is no way out of this uncertainty. We can only ever get to a new spot with just the same uncertainty.
To accept this uncertainties and the complexity of the world is real freedom.
Fable use down significantly since i only use it to do high level thinking / planning and review of work done by other models.
But just using Jumble with good relays solves the problem. It does best on keeping garbage out of my threads.
Want something Android native, tho.
Well, they show up in my threads and act up because they know that content leads, on social media.
They've already purchased most of the people with large npubs, but some of us cannot be bought and will continue to push back.
If you put a gigantic cash honeypot in the middle of a bunch of relatively poor people, they will mostly become focused on getting some of that honey. The honey pot quickly becomes the centralizating force.
The devs have no product to sell, to get the honey, other than themselves. So, they sell that.
Different strokes for different folks. I have a simple heuristic: do I need it? Yes - can I afford it? Yes > buy.
Do I want it? > don’t buy
I’ve never budgeted in my life
Yeah, it's been sad seeing that happen here, but I think it's because they compare themselves with stuff like X or Instagram, rather than focusing on our own project landscape. In their own minds, they're the solution, not the problem.
I don't want Nostr to end up another Matrix or BlueSky, where there is theoretically lots of different apps and servers, but effectively only one of each because so much money was poured into it that it consumed the network and began dictating conditions.

Battery, if you can source a high quality replacement.
OMAD for close to 4 years now. ADF for around a year.
I'm struggling to eat enough calories to keep my weight stable at this point. I'm still losing weight, albeit very slowly. If I eat any more than I do in my eating day I'd feel uncomfortable.
I end up with around 3600 Cals on eating day, so ~1800 Cals daily average.
Can't really see how to fit more than 3600 calories in a single meal 😅
Might have to go back to just OMAD without alternate day fasting if I can't figure out how to maintain my weight in a couple of months. But then I worry the IBS and other discomfort ADF fixed might come back.
Anyone went through this? I'd appreciate any tips.

Depends. Personal spending node? Pretty much braindead easy.
Routing node?
It is still a pain the ass. You can certainly make it profitable - until you get absolutely wrecked by FCs and other bugs.
I had mine dialed in and routing lots of volume, generating decent profit, at the cost of more or less daily monitoring and channel management. It's a part time job.
Then the november/december fee spikes happened and FCs around that time cost me around a million sats.

This. It boils down to the client doing something automatically without me authorizing it. When I report content, I expect to send a report. Not a report + a preset reaction.
Very odd resistance towards removing this clearly unwanted behavior but it's his software and he has the final say.. doesn't mean I like it.
Second wave of Swan Bitcoin scam emails out, warn your less technically savvy buddies.
@nprofile…pyug please remove the reaction. When I send a report, I expect a report. Not an automatic reaction bundled with it.
Actually from a quick test it looks like they don't even wait for a confirmation(?). My Aqua LN swap took less than 10 seconds.
Fair enough. The minimum time for the payment is ~1/2mins since Liquid blocks are generated every minute and whatever Boltz takes to find a route.
I'm not sure what the timeout is but I can't imagine it being very long, so probably not getting into hours.
The downsides of swaps vs native LN... but comes with no inbound liquidity, FCs, and channel management nonsense + being fully insulated from onchain fee spikes 🤷♂️
On that matter; @nprofile…qxg6 y'all should add more boltz swap providers like https://swap.diamondhands.technology/ and compare rates, go with cheapest, or randomly if the same fee for better censorship resistance and reliability :)
That is odd, the fee for that should be a predictable and reproduceable 14ish sats per liquid utxo in the tx and boltz fee being 1 sat + routing fee from Boltz->Alby 🤔
It uses Boltz Liquid<->LN swaps. It's essentially Muun except there is no unpredictable fee issues and/or subsidizing for turbo channels by being Liquid-first.
I think most issues will be around tiny LN payments not suitable for a Boltz swap or Boltz being unable to find a route to the receiver and this only being apparent to the sender (Aqua) after a while..
Yeah, and an odd urge to.. jump. It's like a subconscious voice tempting you to do it.
I get intrusive thoughts about jumping off / leaping from edges and great heights but it doesn't really bother me, it's just an automatic but odd response.
Does your brain do that too? If you have a fear of heights I can see that combination sucking 😅
Practically all of them do, you can only limit the damage with these unpredictable events.
It only reduces response times, it does not prevent anything.
Contributes … sorry typing on the go 😆
I think the core argument around feminism being a contributor to “western ruin” is the idea that it continued to socialist policies that while on the surface sound great create a less meritocratic environment leading to the nanny state and redistribution policies that ultimately lead to more taxation , larger govt and so on.
Oversupplied, broad idea. Not saying that this is how he interprets it, just how I understand that point of view. Also the destruction of the family unit, the bedrock of strong societies.
What is most interesting to me, is that they are both clear that, once everyone has enough to eat, it is relative poverty that destroys the government.
I.e. inequality itself is the problem. It is the disparity, that leads to imbalance.
#nevent1q…7m90
Agree. I don’t think the constitution has mattered for a long time. You could say a lot of shit going down now is unconstitutional.
And what was the conclusion? TLDR?
One I make a living from, one takes money from me 😂
Do I think what should? Do I think our interests should be represented? Yes. I don’t see the country aligning with Israel AT ALL, yet our representatives fully align with them. I don’t see Americans voting for pointless wars to transfer money to MIC and FIC but that’s what they are doing 24/7. Clearly the representatives are not representing the interests of the people OR the country.
If there is a large disparity, the poor will rapidly grow in number, as inequality inevitably feeds more inequality, and then you would have rule by the poor. Which would result in the rich purchasing the ruling elite or simply taking over the government and forming an oligarchy, to protect their wealth. Everything is playing out, exactly according to their predictions. It's uncanny.
Plato suggested society should not have anyone wealthier than 4x the poorest citizen. Anything above that was destined to quickly collapse. As politics follows economy, it doesn't lead it.
Middle-class dominated economies, with high rates of private property ownership (particularly land), tend to be well-governed and free. That was also what the Founder's considered the ideal. Everything else well be poorly-governed and/or tyrannical.
(Land because it is controlling physical territory that makes you part of the sovereign.)
They considered "rich elite" an oxymoron. The rich are preoccupied with their own physical wealth, hustling, nepotism, etc., whereas a true elite would be thinking about nobler things and would be grateful to spend their life serving the public selflessly.
I was never mocking those who choose differently than me. I mock those that come up with oversimplified theories, that lack the logic of causality.
Some people, you included, talk as if there was a logic behind producing vaccines, that are intentionally bad. And theories, that point on one or two institutions that have full control, simply do not accept the complexity of the world.
Our world is actually complex. Therefore all of us fail in different parts of understanding it. Selfreflection on my personal view is the only thing I can do to have a chance in getting wiser. And most such super spectacular theories of Bill Gates and the WHO simply fail when looked at probability.

They also both knew good government cannot exist, in a highly unequal society, and proposed radical wealth caps and vows of poverty for the elite.
See Plato's _Republic_ and Aristotle's _Politics_.
Watching some governments it's simply corn will be harvested
Depends. 🤔 It's a simple design that does everything, which is sort of weird.

to add the special logging entries mentioned add these to your bitcoinconf:
debug=bench
debug=net
then restart sbitcoind:
sudo systemctl restart sbitcoind
If you are up for doing some Bitcoin research, you can join this experiment on the default signet chain on Wednesday:
https://delvingbitcoin.org/t/consensus-cleanup-demo-of-slow-blocks-on-signet/2367
Syncing signet on an RPi5 should take less than an hour (but allow a little more time just in case).
You can start the signet bitcoind instance on a Raspiblitz by running:
config.scripts/bitcoin.install.sh on signet
You will have these aliases set in terminal for easy monitoring and configuration:
alias sbitcoin-cli="sudo -u bitcoin /usr/local/bin/bitcoin-cli -rpcport=38332"
alias sbitcoinlog="sudo -u bitcoin tail -n 30 -f /mnt/hdd/app-data/bitcoin/signet/debug.log"
alias bitcoinconf="sudo nano /mnt/hdd/app-data/bitcoin/bitcoin.conf"
The systemd service is called: sbitcoind
so can check and restart with:
systemctl status sbitcoind
sudo systemctl restart sbitcoind

You can always exit to the terminal with CTRL+C then type: `menu`
If you have no channels might need to add a lightning peer manually to progress from the startup sync screen.

There are imges on github which need to be flashed on a small OS disk: https://github.com/raspiblitz/raspiblitz/tree/dev/alternative.platforms#amd64-image
and for now expects to have a second physical large (best 2 TB) disk for the blockchain and other data.
The next major release will support setting up on a single disk.
Currently still in testing phase, but close.

Using a VPN app vs Tor is not the same league.
Tor is like having 3 new VPN accounts chained every time you reopen your browser window.
It is significantly slower on the other hand so pick the right tool for the job.

The Lightning Network is a second-layer protocol built on top of Bitcoin's stable base layer. Unlike Bitcoin, Lightning does not have its own blockchain, so it does not require a consensus mechanism. Instead, it relies on agreed-upon accounting and security guarantees between peers to maintain payment channels.
On the Bitcoin network, consensus rules determine the validity of blocks. While mempool relay policies do not influence these rules, they can fragment mempools and significantly delay full block relay.
Many non-technical and often non-economical participants are misled into believing they can influence consensus rules through relay filters. This is not only inaccurate but also potentially harmful to the network.
filters so good that mempools empty regularly https://image.nostr.build/9ae072e68cd088cd27529ee508d739ed6dd1b682f8dbb3c1abac47a3e639a222.jpg

There is no rush in updating, but is there anything controversial for you in v29?
This is about the general non-technical moralizing and larping.
The removal of the OP_RETURN mempool policy limit does not worth the energy going into it, could just leave it alone, but agree with the technical motivation.
I just want my node to be able to predict the next block as accurately as possible when it has the mempool on at all.
Any version with no known vulnerabilities.
