My legitimation for taxes to pay for quality TV and radio is the following:
1. Our liberties as property rights are enforced by the judicative based on the local laws.
2. Laws are written by representatives. Can be from an authocratic state, representing a certain minority or in a democratic state representing the people.
3. In order for the people to inform themself about how law is enacted and which representatives speak up for which topic, we need some medium, which independently reports about what happens.
4. This is basically the work of the press. And I would say a medium can be eighter independent, since all their money comes from readers directly, or their money comes from the state with the condition to not having anything to say, what they should or should not write.
I see the first independence the superior option. But in small counties, readers might not have the financial power to ensure local press by only the intrested ones. The calculation is easy. Only those who have paying news abonnements can allow such a medium to exist. And in the current reality, not every county has enough paying readers to uphold a local independent news source.
And when the state does then not pay for independent media to fill this, it will be filled by the void (blind voters) or by corporate intrest (voters that only get to see, what is in the intrest of these corporations). Both scenarios take away the oportunity for people to independent information. This already makes democracy less powerful.

I see it as great to have complex societies that share their workingpower. People who can specialize on specific professions is great. But this also means, that no every one is a great psychologist or nutrition specialist. So I think what really works is to have expensive unhealthy stuff, so whoever looks for cheap will look for natural, unprocessed. With the correct incentives a minority would still go on with the shitty foods all day n night.

Ist einfach zu beachten, dass das Militärbudget der USA für 2025 war 876 Mia USD. Naher ist 5.6Mia für einen Tag etwa mehr als das doppelte von den Standard "Verteidigungsausgaben"
Klar gibt es nebst dem Krieg wohl die anderen Ausgaben noch oben drauf. Aber nur zum sagen, dass exorbitante Militärausgaben, die Norm ist für den US Fiskus. 2.5 Mia USD bereits in relativ friedlichem Umfeld.
Und das jeden Tag. Woher kommt wohl das riesen Staatsdefizit? 🤔

What phone do you have? #lineage most probably runs on it. It is not hardened or so.

I hope enough people are aware of this action from Google. It is a good time to motivate friends and family to go with a more free system.
But mostly it is a huge danger, that smaller free software projects will loose intrest from developers, when the userbase is even more restricted.

True. This is said easy. But many people clearly seem to fail to get on this track. We as a society should make sure, that this style of living is the most affordable one.
I mean many social states suffer under huge health bills, while those causing it, make big profits. First those which sell junk and then those who cure the symptoms of it. When junk producers are forced to pay all the bills for health-related problems they cause, realities can change quickly I assume.
This junkification of food is a recent problem. And it is so clear, that it will not go on like this for long. Those societies which solve it, will economically gain huge advantages over societies, which go on with the junk-economy.
It is only a question of time until those countries which allow unresticted selling of junkfood and softdrinks will empoverish.
So I would really like to solve this in Switzerland and get out of this trap.

They also talk about #osempic and their effort to bring it to be payed all by insurance. And I assume they do this #global.
I am really thinking, if we need laws, which tag the price of those chronic deceases to products, which cause it.
It seems as osempic treat a symptom of a problem without any intent to improve the problem. When the ultraprocessed products, products with sugar and so on will have to pay all caused health issues, probably societies come to a much healthier balance.
Are there #swiss health experts on Nostr, which would support such an initiative?

Development of apps needs testing. And testing needs users. And for anyone starting any development, some amount of users are maby needed as well to motivate the effort.
Operating systems come with a huge networkeffect. I think opensource development will be thrown back years, when Goodle actually commits to their proposition.

Finde ich eine interessante Sendung. Geht auch um die Frage: "Wozu lebe ich?" und "Wenn ich jeden Tag meine Wünsche zurück stecke, möchte ich dann länger leben?"
Mir scheint, wenn solche #longgevity zentren auch gezielt auf unsere Unsicherheiten abzielen. Wenn ich am Ende die beiden Ärzte höre so nehmen diese eine sehr skurrile Position ein. Gerade der Arzt spricht in der dritten person (man sollte...), während dem eigentlich klar ist, dass dies seinem persönlichen Wunsch entspricht.
Es wirt versucht, dass Menschen den Tod herauszögern. Doch das Warum scheint mir von seitens dieser Ärzte nicht umstösslich. Wie in stein gemeisselt, dass dies legitim ist.
Ich denke jede perso kann das machen. Darin sehe ich aber keine moralische Tugend. Es ist eine Entscheidung so wie viele andere. Man muss es wollen und dann ist es gut.

I am always on the look, to use more #libre tools, to be more independent. Mostly in #privacy concerning parts. For example I still listen to music via Spotify and Youtube. Today I am trying zap.stream and my first impression is good. At least I am satisfied, to find some music stream to follow while working.
For me every connection to Bigetech, which I can find an alternative or just not do it is a win. So thanks a lo to the @nprofile…k2zx team and the artists and activists already supporting this with content.

Since 2022 I am using Anki to learn vocabulary. And think it is among the best ways to learn something by heart.
The system is called spaced repetition. Means to wait for a long time until you repeat a word you are very familiar with and repeat those often, which are difficult to remember.
Today I realized, that this is the system basically all advertisment is using. When something seems of little importance to a consumer, maby he considers the product or brand more important, when shown more often.
Advertising is like an external learning process with participants that did not subscribe for it.

But it is true, that there are a lot of good companies dedicated to some idea, which just did not have the chance to learn, that they could deliver their services through free software too.
Defnitly chessdotcom does actually a lot to promote chess. And that is a good goal on its own.

You can use the hashtag #asknostr for such questions as well 😉
I personally could think that Nostr can be used in a kids friendly way. I think as with most social media it could be a good thing to define some filters, to get rid of unappropriated notes in the feed.
And best work with an elevated WoT-score, to have only actively followed users in the feed.
But in general, I think nothing speaks against giving access to kids.

Defnitly a good point, where the lack of privacy is costly. When people stop doing moves they are insecure in, because the chance it gets publizised is high.
I really think, that opt out privacy rules need to be illegal. Users have to actively choose every datapoint they want to share. Nothing by default.
When privacy means, that I decide with whom to share what data, so only optional opt-in mechanisms can even be called #privacy.
We started into unregulated digital companies. But this is nothing we have to go on with. We can change the norms. When enough people want it, we will have a privacy first constitution. And fistr and formost a privacy first economy.

Yea I totally see, that every piece of collaboration usually means compromises.
And I totally see, that some people want things all personalized without compromises.
But I think those are not the customers of libraries in the first place.
And libraries do not loose their usefullness, because they do not work for some people. They only die, when they are not used by anyone.

True, when one reads through their announcment, they seem to go quiet a good way, to protect users privacy at best, while protecting the children and teens (which probably make up the greatest amount of users).
For me not every app needs to serve for everything. When an app dedicated to gamechat enforces some moderation, this seems quiet reasonable to me.

I asked myself this morning, if mass surveillance can even be compatible with democracy and our human right to privacy.
So I question:
1. Can a state collect and store data of any individual, that is not convicted of any wrong doing?
2. Should any private institution or company have the right to collect and share our data and metadata without explicit action (like issuing a search, sending a file to someone or giving access to it)?
3. Should sharing of our data and metadata, as tracking and advertismentcompanies do it be legal in a democracy?

The money generally follows the value. It is quiet hard to create valuable content, so it would be able to work as primary income.

I had the opportunity to grow up in Switzerland and learn German, French and English in public school.
Before 4 years I started my journey to learn Spanish by my own without school, since I did never like the build up in schools.
Now I am starting with chinese.
When I started with Spanish I learnt about the free software Anki. And to everyone out there, who wants to memorize whatever, I can really recommend to use Anki.
It is not fancy. It is hard learning.
But it is very efficient to remember what you learn for a long time, since it uses a spaced repetition algorythm.
And as it seems neuroscientists are at a great consensus, that spaced repetition is what enforces remembering something the most efficient way.
So when you, your child or any loved person is really wanting to learn something to last long. Recommend them Anki.
(Setting up a lists and writing cards is already part of the learning process. When writing your own sets you can learn whatever with it. But there are even good sets to download, if you have only the goal to start learning a language for example.)

It is just the same problem as with every kind of propriatary software. There is just no way to make sure that the model is fairly supporting the best argument. Clearly this is the same problem with lumo. But when there is a good freedom orientet model, I will defnitly switch to it for the same reason, I would prefer Linux over Windows and Mac or LibreOffice over MS Office.
My reason is mostly the transparency and user empowerment. Utility and performance will increase with more time and more users eventually, while propiatary products have problems they can not get rid of, since the users handicap is the publishers businessmodel.

Free markets are inherently for free people. For their freedom to live or work, where they want to.
Free markets use prices to indicate, where ressources are most needed and where they are in abundance. So when salaries are very high in some point, the free market requests for more people to move there. So border control is inherently against free markets.
Therefore political parties, which request free markets and closed borders, already proof to have a logical fallacy within their ideas.
PS: Criminals should be brought to courts, so they get their fair trial. So my note is not in favor of freeing criminals. But it is for #freedom

I think currently the pixels are a great choice, to be compatible with #GrapheneOS, which should be the most privacy oriented OS without question.
I opted for a Pixel of the a series. Is with little lower spec. I think mostly for the camera sensors.
Or when repairability is a high need, the Fairphone could be cool. It is an all modular phone where it is doable for everyone to replace down to the camera and displays without much skill or tools. 😉

When you mix state and democracy, as if it were synonyms, it is confusing. Democracy means a form of state, where citizen directly can participating in ruling.
When people kill each other, I do not know if it is really the state to blame. Or rather the individuals, which commited the killing.
Is there a good study, which would make tha case, that in non-democratic countries, people commit less murder? Or that before the nation state, less criminals were around?

Defnitly agree on that. This is a law that gives backdoor access. And all who understand security know, that a product can technically not create a backdoor without weakening their security.

They lack support for the Linux kernel. And when you accept to run MacOS, you directly accept their restrictions on what settings you are allowed to change and which not.
I think the comparison is really not to compare MacOS as bad compared with Windows. But rather with Linux, where the user is the absolut master of the system.
I think most PC users know, that their hardware is absolutly awesome. I think there is no comparable battery-consumption with this high performance on the market as the newest mac computers and laptops. And probably this is why many would really like to use their hardware. But for the closed software approach they are choosing, many freedom maxis are unhappy, to use the best hardware, when it comes with shortage of user freedom to change everything.

Cool. Really intrested in this. Is this a thing one can use with various clients? Would it for example also be compatible with #coracle? Since I enjoy within coracle that I can filter my feed for a minimum WoT score. Always when I go to an other client I see far more destructive notes, that do not give me anything. Here with coracle I feel to have gained a very great feed, I can learn and grow on.

I assume, that @npub10st…25jt and @npub10z6…wk04 are a malicious bots. On Primal it shows me, that they follow me day by day. So I have seen, that @npub1q6w…pndn , @npub18kg…kqvm, @npub1hcn…qygc, @npub19hs…5jcn and @npub1ecj…h6up follow those npubs.
I wanted to make you guys concious, that I have seen this malicious behaviour. I assume those npubs are used to promote other bots with credibility through trusted follows. So they try to breach the world of trust. When you come to a similar conclusion, might you are willing to unfollow or even mute those accounts, so others will also not have them displayed within their world of trust ;)

Thank you for the suggestion. I only theoretically looked into Nix until now. But did not quiet convince me to use for a workstation. Can you maby mention what benefits you see, from using nix? From your own experience.
I would be very happy to have one day a kind of automated setup, to quickly install a computer and have every tweak and stuff the same as I had on an other computer. Best would be a automated install.
