Some people have the strangest relationship with their dogs. On my way to my morning swim i often cross this elderly lady with her huge black dog. She clearly has no control over the dog. The dog clearly knows and enjoys this.
Today she did call him back, it's a he, but he gleefully ignored her, came close and shook his super wet fur right next to me. It felt menacing.
I am no exactly scared of dogs, but i am also not not scared. Especially when it is obvious that the owners have no control.

it's peak jam season, when almost all the berries are ripe at the same time. The key for me is often to combine two ingredients. Strawberry with rhubarb is ofc the classic. I recently read that some people combine raspberry with rhubarb as well. Gotta try that. But have you tried prune with lemon verbena? Or apricot with lime? Blackberries with rosemary can work quite nice as well. For fig jam, much later, i combine fresh with dried figs, makes it super caramelly.

In the article above (sorry, it's behind a paywall, in German and i don't have the spoons to translate it) one woman claims that she had a remission from ME-type Long COVID by doing a brief session of mindfulness meditation every day and by telling herself "i am not sick" all day long.
Well, i have been meditating every day for more than six years and tried every possible thing to get better, including positive affirmations
But it's still there.

Which does sound like a miracle and i can only hope for Reusser, that she does not damage her body in some long-term way.
In short, there are problematic aspects to this treatment. Yet it seems to help certain people. But maybe only in certain sub-types of Long COVID? And what happens, if it does not help? Will people blame themself for failing? That's why it should be free of charge and people should stop preaching about it in silly podcasts.

Similarly, i would never make fun of someone who gets better through homeopathy. I don't believe in it. But again, if it works, it works. Another problematic aspect above is activation therapy. As we know, from a number of studies, this can also make symptoms worse. But the article remains vague on exactly how this is done in this treatment. On the other hand, we do have the case of Marlen Reusser, who had #ME type #LongCOVID, but got better and went on to win races again in elite cycling.

The longer i think about this article, the more i think of it as a cheap shot. If someone gets better by saying stop to symptoms, visualizing a time before the illness and circling around a piece of paper with symbols printed on it, i may have questions, but ultimately good for them. If it works, it works. Belief and autosuggestion can help in healing. I would be too sceptical for this. But who am i to criticize someone who succeeds like that. The one problem i have is that it costs money.

· Buteyko breathing (4 out, 4 hold, 4 in, alterante closing of one tract of the nose)
· Acupressure points (i especially see results with: ST36 (Zusanli – “Leg Three Miles”) for overall improvment, CV12 (Ren12 – “Middle Stomach”) for abdominal issues and HT7 (Shenmen – “Spirit Gate”) for insomnia and anxiety)

it moved into the gut, with mostly diffuse but sometimes sharp abdominal pains. And finally ear- and headache. At first i was confused because i did not understand what could be the connection. I now believe it's something connected with my vagus nerve and started to treat it accordingly, with some success, but i am not back to baseline.

What i can say now is that when i read that book, i mostly agreed with its basic premise, yet didn't agree with many of the points it made. It's also not very well written, meandering in style. I read it and wished someone else took up the basic thesis and wrote a helpful book about it.
But parts of it are amazing, especially where it talks about ACT Up and not calling the police on community members.

In a disease where is no objective data, we will always depend on subjective patient reporting. That survey by Gez (a medial researcher by trade) was answered by well over 2000 people (if my memory serves me right). I also remember a later study that confirmed the 25/25/50 finding. I remember a survey among the #LongCOVID community (done by Gez Medinger), came to the result that 25% experienced a worsening of their symptoms after vaccination. Whereas 25% saw improvements in their baseline, for the rest, 50%, nothing changed.
As i say above, vaccines are great. People should get them. But to many don't. Which forces people with known adverse reactions to get one.

@nprofile…yqta Yes, i did consider that and tested for it twice. The other thing is that i already had worsening symptoms after my 1. and 2. booster, increasingly so. After which i skipped a few mrna boosters (when vaccine coverage in the general population was still quite decent here), and then switched to novovax, to which i had zero adverse reaction. But last year novovax didn't get an update and was not available where i live anyway. In theory it could be something else, but

@nprofile…a273 I am sorry to hear that this happened to you. But i actually think it is rare. It is a risk though, a numbers game.
From what I hear among the #LongCOVID community a certain percentage of people even get better thanks to the vaccine, the largest part sees no difference and i happen to be among the ~ 25% who see symptoms getting worse. I mostly regret that i couldn't get the Novovax this year, that didn't have an adverse effect for me. And i blame our health department.

Today would have been a beautiful day, it had snowed overnight, the sun was out. But i needed to close the blinders because my eyes could not take the brightness. One of the biggest continuous challenges for me with #LongCOVID is my heightened sensitivity to basically everything. Noise, smell, vibrations, light. All sensations are exaggerated to the point of being painful. It makes life almost unbearable in this loud, smelly, bright world, where we can only afford a shitty apartment near the waste treatment plant with loud neighbors who make our floors shake. I try to meditate into it, but that makes it even more raw. My ability to sleep is also affected.

What I would need is unattainable, here, a small cabin on a patch of land, without any direct neighbors or with only considerate ones. An impossibility. The only thing that helps me sleep are pills, benzos, ibus, paracetamol, that in turn also take a toll on my health.
I see no way out. My assisted suicide is basically decided. For now i wait for my frail, demented mother to die, because i don't want to burden her with that. But once she is gone, i will apply for it.

For some reason i am reminded of the time i went to my favorite vegan-chinese restaurant on Geary in SF, the one run by nuns, and they served me my food with two huge cockroaches on top. I still wonder if they thought that i was a skinhead, because of my shaved head.

A group of unnamed millionaires and politicians traveled to Washington DC to butter up and bribe Trump with expensive gifts and ass-licking. Since then it appears that Trump is okay to lower the tarifs from 39 to 15%.
This dude is such a pathetic embarrassment, and so predictable. Give shiny things and he caves. Lick his ass and he rolls over.
Sometimes i imagine if this was a movie we would be rolling on the floor laughing about this clown show.

I love Josh Johnson's comedy as much as everyone does these days. But i have sometimes wondered, what's up with all the fart jokes?! Aren't they too obvious, and a cheap shot!?
I think the answer is that fart jokes predictably get people to lol. And that there is supreme healing power in room full of people laughing in stitches.
What do you think?
