If you’re not familiar with the “French Paradox” it is essentially a “paradox” where experts are dumbfounded that French people seem to skirt death relating to heart disease given the amount of saturated fats they consume (Among other things like smoking and consistent drinking (not binge drinking))
I like Saifedean’s take on experts who come across something that flies in the face of their claims, they just write it off as a “paradox”.
I’m sure there are a few things going on here, but above all else I’m sure there’s probably just something to be said about how protective against heart disease the consumption of saturated fats are.
Many other countries (France, Germany, Japan, Korea, etc.,) are much heavier smokers than The U.S., but they seem to have far less incidences of heart disease as well.

In this case I was referring to fermented beans that are then brewed.
There is also coffee kombucha which would be more like already brewed coffee being fermented, which should still yield a similar effect, but my guess is it would have a different taste and also the method by which you make kombucha there would be alcohol produced by the ferment. Like 0.05% so it’s generally not considered an alcoholic beverage.

I may have stumbled upon something that cracks this coffee conundrum wide open.
As I have previously mentioned the fermentation process of plants makes them edible for humans because the fermentation process “pre-digests” the components of the food (starches, sugars, **plant toxins**, maybe some other stuff) making the the plants more easily digestible for humans.
This is the mechanism that makes sourdough bread less glutenous than regular bread. The sourdough culture is eating the gluten.
As I was sipping on some kombucha (fermented tea) this morning I was thinking about how there’s less caffeine and less sugar in it because of this fermentation process. (Caffeine is a natural-occurring insecticide that is eaten up by the fermentation process)
Then I thought, “I wonder if there’s fermented coffee?”
Lo-and-behold, fermented coffee is a thing and it contains 90% less caffeine than a regular cup of coffee making it more easily digestible. Because of this it removes a lot of the bitterness from the flavor as well making the taste more pleasant when consumed black.
That said, I liken coffee to one of those bullshit green smoothies, where it’s just a highly potent plant-toxin juice that you couldn’t possibly get a similar dosage from by simply eating the actual vegetable - or coffee beans in this case (Yes, one of the earliest ways coffee was consumed was chewing the beans with animal fat. I think it was the Mesai? or some other African tribe).
That said, I imagine that the probiotics are damaged in the actual brewing of the coffee, but the caffeine content is reduced which still makes it more easily digestible and not so bitter.
Maybe if you cold brew the beans you can maintain the probiotic benefits? I don’t know I literally just thought of this and spent like 30 minutes looking into it.

I’m not sure that I’ve made this clear, but personally I think the only vegetables worth eating are the fermented ones because the fermentation process makes the nutrient devoid hard-to-digest food, not that.

Tobacco has been a major target of the government and so I’m inclined to believe there’s something beneficial about it.
The interesting thing about tobacco is that the nicotine is a natural pesticide and antiparistic. So tobacco had been consumed a few different ways instead of smoking, but in any such case the tobacco - even when smoked - has been used medicinally to rid people of the parasites in their body.
I’ve heard of some parasites entering through the lungs and somehow getting into the intestinal lining from there. Helmenthic therapy (Consuming a parasite to latch onto your gut wall and draw the proper nutrients directly to the gaps in your gut lining) is interesting from this standpoint.

I tend to use the Lindy Principle as an easy litmus test to determine that there’s a place for a certain food, beverage, or activity to benefit ones health.
That being said, alcohol and tobacco both have some pretty significant Lindy behind it.
I don’t know all the ins-and-outs of these industries, but I’m sure what we are drinking and smoking (in most cases) is some extremely degraded version of what we historically consumed.
Additionally - at least in the case of tobacco - this would have been consumed in a ceremonial manner not in the modern abused way that has led to the profanation of the crop.

I don’t know much about all this esoteric spirituality business, but I do know that the pinecone has been used to symbolize the pineal glad (third-eye) in multiple cultures throughout history.
A couple months ago, entirely unrelated, I looked up what the function of a pine cone is because I have some trees in my backyard that produce a ton of them. Apparently they house the seeds for growing a new tree. Even more astounding the pine cones are fire-resistant. So in the event of a forest fire pine trees have developed this mechanism that protects their seeds from the fire, but when the tree burns down they open up and release the seeds into the soil to grow back.

Regarding my comments on Biphasic and Polyphasic sleeping. If you can sleep straight through for 7, 8, 9 hours then go for it.
For the rest of you that get like 5-6 hours straight through, don’t beat yourself up over it. It’s seemingly more natural than the prescribed 8 hours. Just take a nap at some point in the day.

I, for awhile, had this natural pattern of sleeping for a few hours, waking for a little bit, then going back to sleep for a few hours.
When I started going pure carnivore for the first time (a few years ago), I noticed I would either sleep a straight 5-6 hours or I would get 3-4 hours of sleep, wake up for a little bit, then go back to bed for a couple hours before getting up for work. I thought it was because my body wasn’t comatose from garbage food and my body was working so efficiently that I didn’t need a full 8 hours to “cleanse”.
As I was doing the carnivore diet there was something about the sleep pattern that gave me the sense that there was something about *not* sleeping the prescribed 8 hours that felt right. I thought there was no way early humans could afford to sleep a straight 8 hours because that would leave them vulnerable to predators.
It was only this morning when I woke up at 2:30AM after 5 hours of sleep that I looked up sleeping in shifts.
Apparently (and so obviously) prior to the Industrial Revolution, Biphasic and Polyphasic sleeping was normal. People would just take naps during the day for an hour or two, if they didn’t go back to sleep after waking in the middle of the night for an 1-3 hours.
In fact; There are many historical accounts up into the early 1800’s of people referring to “first-sleep” and “second-sleep”.
And if you think about it, sleeping a straight 8+ hours is an extremely unique feature/bug to modern adult humans. Babies don’t do this and pre-elementary school (School kind of follows an Industrial Revolution schedule (at least in the US)) are always waking up sporadically and taking naps. I briefly read about remote tribes in South America and Africa getting much less sleep than 8 hours even without artificial light.
As “8 hours of sleep” is the mantra of PhD sleep “experts”, I’m inclined to think that this is some “ancient” knowledge that could be used to dunk on them. *dunk*

Quick overview of why you should avoid plastic clothes:

Polyester clothes are literally made from recycled plastic water bottles.

Oral health is the toughest category for which to find a 100% natural product.
I’ve previously mentioned I use a wooden toothbrush with boars’ hair bristles.
Additionally, I’ve mentioned that I use a clay based toothpaste, you can make this from bentonite clay and salt.

I can’t really do the argument full justice, but everything always is vibrating just at different frequencies. It’s a super esoteric health idea that essentially boils down to the higher the frequency of the human the higher the vitality. Just like I flip between a streak of caffeine and non-caffeine, I flip between tea and coffee when I am drinking caffeine.
I like tea mostly because the L-Theanine slows the metabolism of the caffeine mitigating my jitters when I do jump back into caffeine after being off it for awhile.

If you buy something that’s packaged in plastic that says “BPA-free”, it’s almost definitely not BPS-free which is more toxic than BPA.
Opt for glass bottles whenever possible.

From a heavy metal perspective you should avoid getting tattoos.
I don’t know which metal is in each different color, but I know that the ink used to dye your skin is loaded with heavy metals. There are numerous different metals like lead, cadmium, aluminum, and nickel to name a few.
Instead of getting a tattoo, just get ripped, tan, and beautiful instead!

Unfortunately, environmental toxicity is the most difficult to escape and yet possibly the most impactful on one’s health.
-Pesticides in the air from the mass fumigation they do to monocrops
-Aluminum leeching into the food from the pesticides breaking down the aluminum in the soil
-Brake dust floating around in the air in cities
-Cell phone towers and wifi giving off EMF’s
-Absorbtion of phthalates because everything is made of plastic
(And many others)
But luckily we have dirt (bentonite clay)!
I am convinced that at the very least given bentonite clay’s negative charge when hydrated helps with neutralizing the positive charge that EMF’s give off. Additionally, it’s extremely good at clinging to toxins which include heavy metals, aluminum (a toxic metal, but not a heavy metal), and pesticides.

I’m old enough to remember cell phones becoming more compact and commonplace and moms -with very little evidence- talking about how cell phones can cause cancer.
Mothers’ intuition was very attuned to the dangers of EMF’s.
Keep your phone out of your front pocket.
Keep it out of your chest pocket
Throw it on speaker phone or plug in some wired-headphones to takes calls.

Who is the knees over toes guy? I’ve heard of him.
Yeah they provide a solid base with zero synthetic materials + I don’t have to keep destroying my socks. I notice discomfort in my lower back much more easily now when I switch to traditional gym shoes.

If you want to save your lower back the trouble and pull a pro-move at the same time, use kettlebell front squats to blast your legs.
The front squats alleviates the pressure on the lower back.
It also works your core simultaneously.
Bonus points if you use those mini-ramps to do the squats on a decline.

Saw someone doing back squats with those Hoka gym shoes and heavy enough weight that it was forcing them to lean forward.
Hoka gym shoes have to be the most padded gym shoes I’ve ever seen in my life, they’re basically lifts made of tempurpedic mattresses.
This combination is a disaster for your lower back.

There is an equal amount of literature on caffeine being good for you and caffeine being bad for you. So my approach is cautious moderation.
My initial thought is that caffeine has Lindy behind it.
However, I know allowing the body to use this as a crutch for energy is never a good thing and caffeine is a natural insecticide which can be damaging to the gut lining.
I drink a small amount, no more than a cup and a half in a day. No more than a single espresso shot if I’m having espresso.
I always consume as early in the day as possible so as to not disrupt sleep.
I almost always consume it after a meal.
I almost always cut it with a fat and a carb. Raw milk or preferably affogato with a scoop of raw milk ice cream.
And I sure as hell DO NOT drink it out of a plastic lined cup.
