Yes 100%.
I am probably a Luddite in the real meaning of that word also.
Like I don't fly in planes anymore. I also don't buy new computers.
I think that people expecting to have a computer in their pocket
at all times is totally wrong. (from that utility POV you mention)
But it's like being a vegan, I don't say it all the time in mixed company.
Like most of the people reading this are on a "pocket computer".
That is not the medium to tell them I don't think people
should have pocket computers. (again because of utility in
a difference sense ... i know the message will be counter
productive. Like vegans learn to not talk about veganism,
because it tends to make people dig into eating meat.)
I am prepared to not use computers anymore.
I am also someone that can use computers as
ethically as possible. (like by not buying new systems.)
(Also I am flawed and like i really want a MNT reform pocket
which would be a new systems. But even that is on the right
side of a lot of things because it is not a mult death corporation.)
I mean I did put my money where my mouth is.
I quit my high paying programming job at NTT because
i couldn't keep working with LLMs and agentic crap.
I will eventually run out of money and lose my house etc.
(I mean i will get a low paying job before that. I am
pretty good at working all kinds of jobs. I just really
like programming.)
About your last point. I think all of that is not real. You
could pay humans to do everything you said instead of
doing that. It would be better on all fronts.
Also like I was saying in another post, using LLMs in
that sense is usually "beauracry management".
Like filling out forms, and knowing which forms to
fill out. That whole systems needs to go away, and
catering to that by providing LLMs to underpriviledged
people is making my brain hurt. Also that is idealist
and in the short term if using an LLM helps an underpriviledged
person I would never tell _them_ to stop.
But in the big picture I won't pretend it's useful.
Utility starts with food water and shelter and well being
from having a good quality of life. Like it's good to remember
those first principles. LLMs as a solution to any of that
again devolves into bearucracy mitifgation, which
first principles would say fight the beauacracy not
prop up the mitigation.

LLM is a brute force machine.
I think that's part of the disconnect between the pro and anti
people (i am clearly an anti person).
Any dialog is focusing on different things.
The pro people are focusing on utility ... valid.
The anti people are focusing on the infrastructure ... valid.
The deeper point is which of these has more impact
or strength of argument ?
The infrastructure does.
Because if it doesn't then the argument devolves into
"it's OK to do something bad if it brings utility"
I think that is the point that people like me are seeing
implicitly and the pro-AI ppl are like weirdly NOT
seeing.

I think I hit a point where the overhead of #zig is
not worth the benefits it brings with better
syntax and modules.
Now I'm into #chicken and #c .
This is pretty normal for me I will oscillate
between a few of these things at any given
time, I def. haven't given up on zig. Let
I find this a great way to learn, meaning
jumping between pretty pretty different
approaches to similar things.

I am bigoted against LLMs.
I know it and it is how I deal with the hype.
Meaning I can't constantly be reasonable and
figure out what is meant and the context of LLMs
and what people think about them.
It drains my brain power from other things.
And I have continually found nothing compelling.
Worse, I have typically found very frustrating
examples of people using very strong but implied
assumptions and using logic that depends utterly
on using blinders and ignoring reason.
Until the hype dies, I am not interested in them.
I am still interested in the old AI stuff like
for example path finding, NNs, and markov chains.

I just did a quick dive into Z3950 and SRU/SRW, do you know if this data
is exposed anywhere for a normie like me?
For example I frequently use my libararies portal to search for interlibrary
loan books, but it would be fun if I could search them directly.

I can imagine that keeping older and disabled people alive would
have many benefits.
It does not surprise me, I often also don't like the too easily
drawn conclusions people make about why.
Joy with younger people and passing experience.
The more damage they have the more experience they pass ? :)

maybe zoom is the best bet, I assume I would have to pay if I am the one suggesting to
use it. (which is ok)
also this isn't about a "good" solution, this is about how can i easily talk to job prospect
ppl WITHOUT needing a smart phone. I am already fine with using windows for this.

yes and incarceration is one of the main "violences" that only the
state is allowed to use. I'm waking up to the abolition concept in the US.
It used to surprise me that abolition (which I think of as slavery related)
is mostly incarceration related. Now it starts to make sense.
It's similar to how people think police protect them, but that
was never the main intention. Prisons are to scare you into complying
to the demands of the state, even and especially when it isn't logical.
(Like many homeless have nowhere to go.)

When I was young edgy counter culture I had that naive I don't want
to pay taxes. But just because I had no conception of my society
and that I was a part of it for better or for worse.
Now as an older edgy radical type I WANT TO PAY taxes that go to social and civil
services. Please can these recovering drug addicts have fantastic counseling and
a nice single room apartment with no responsibilities so they can figure their
shit out.
That seems like heaven to me. A society that gives you a minimum to live
and be comfortable. And I mean the minimum in both
senses.
Even many liberals don't really want that when pressed. They want
people to have more suffering than that. What else does "you mean
not work at all?" mean?
I feel like lots of adults around me are like me when i was younger.
It's annoying but I sorta internalized that notion that it's fine for kids
to learn at whatever pace. To drastically extrapolate, it seems like we
just have a lot of adults that haven't learned yet. maybe that's OK
with these long life spanner wrenches we have.

I went from two soekris models (48** -> 5**) to the APU
which has been been just chugging away for years as
my router. Everynow and then i pull out a serial cable thing
to upgrade OpenBSD on it. I think it's on 7.0 now.
It kinda uses the whole case in that it's all aluminum touching
each other.

I have this problem using snac.
Say I follow someone and they reply to someone's year+ long thread.
Now snac shows me their reply because i follow them.
And it also pulls in context ....
How much context?
I think a naive but valid first implementation solution to that is
to pull the whole thread.
