I suspect that US big tech’s ability to analyse social media and other internet data is no small part of the US ability to locate human targets. Also and without doubt, if there was access, there would also be considerable US/Israeli propaganda fed to social media users. Only one side has this ability. Are we surprised that their opponents shut it out?

I remember Julian Tudor Hart telling me that he’d never contributed to GDP as publicly funded services are counted as costs. His work on blood pressure saved, and is still saving, millions of lives. Marilyn Waring’s 1995 documentary gives an excellent critique of this method of accounting. Also, remember when our nationalised services gave much better service than we have now, and produced generations of youngsters with apprenticeships? Not counted in GDP. I’m with Polanski

Momentum seems to be with the Green Party in England, and with Plaid Cymru in Wales. A poll I saw today for the Senedd elections put Plaid Cymru at 33% leading Reform at 30%. Labour was at 10% with the Greens at 9%. I think the Tories were 10%.

This assumes that facts can change a person’s political opinion or voting intention. How do we think that has worked in, for example, the politics of Climate Collapse? The facts are objectively more convincing and terrifying all the time yet people’s views are entrenched. I believe that the most powerful thing that can accomplish such a change in viewpoint is lived experience.

One of my neighbours, Leigh Evans, is a retired nurse and Gaza Medic who was captured by Israel as part of the Madleen Fleet. Starmer did less than nothing to protect him and those sailing with him.
He returns this weekend

Labour Party rank and file members and those who voted Labour at the last election - by which time the seeds of all this new PFI were clearly there to be seen - also learned nothing.
Continual agonising along the lines of: Will they change course…don’t they understand…surely they will see…has been shown to achieve nothing.
Labour is not the prodigal son. There is too little talk of the political alternatives by those accustomed to discussing politics in terms of the Labour Party.

She moved her name from the deeds of a family home to make sure she did not pay tax on this property. A game of “find the loophole” by people that set our tax laws does not appear respectable to me. They presumably try to close loopholes when they set laws. For legislators to then seek loopholes for themselves is distasteful at best. Quite different if ordinary folk need to understand the labyrinthine tax system.

Call me naive but you don’t generally need a lawyer to tell you what’s ethically right, only what you can get away with. I don’t find this unexpected from a Labour MP, it’s an indicator of who they are. I’m probably like a million other ex Labour voters who will happily watch New Improved Labour brought down.

I see that it is a good idea. I don’t follow the bit about a Labour Government though. When was the last time we had one of those that wasn’t in name only? It really is time to let go of Labour for our discourse on alternatives to develop. They shouldn’t even be in the conversation. It’s said that when people show us who they are we should believe them. If we fail to believe them when they continually tell us who they are then it surely indicates a rut in our thinking.

Here in Wales - maybe across the UK - affordable housing is sold at 80% of the market rate. Buyers cannot resell at the market rate for some years.
We’re on Gower, where house prices are high (for Wales). Prices are driven up by people who sell up in English cities and move in, or similar folk buying second homes or AirBNBs. No local people with ordinary jobs consider these houses to be affordable.

Yes, it is in bad faith. Starmer is trying to both shrink the state and pass power to corporates. He wants to say neither of these things, but everything he does points to this. If we take Mussolini’s description of Fascism (and he knew a thing or two about it) then we are seeing a Neoliberal route to Fascism.

I think that our political class actually shares the MMT mindset. We never see them agonising over increasing nuclear weapons spending, or even corrupt Covid payments, They and the press don’t then lead with “where’s the money coming from?”
They only use this argument when keeping us in our place, and we do their work by repeating it.

Unfortunately hope is a useless policy -one the left has relied on since the 80’s. Was the great failing of the established Labour Left not to warn incoming troops in 2016 of the unremitting duplicity of the Labour Right? I for one might then have been much more rigorous in having a clear out. Instead the unsubstantiated expectation was that they would fall democratically in line. What Starmer has done is a lesson in what WE should have done. The chance will not come again in Labour

Martin Luther King knew that his worst opponents were hand-wringing liberals. They support all historical social advance movements but never any current ones. That’s why so few of them can point to any protest they attended at a critical time for success.
They want the social kudos of being on the ethical side, but draw the line at risking any social capital to achieve it.
At least you know where you are with opponents who don’t pretend to share your objectives.

In my view the Labour Party has effectively collected, filtered out and neutralised socialists for 50 years on behalf of neoliberal paymasters. I wouldn’t be surprised if the support for Welsh Labour is similarly disappearing. The main thing holding it together was Mark Drakeford’s integrity. Many of the Labour stronghold valleys can no longer support a party branch. Decades of neglect of post industrial area and communities. The demise will be swift and, for some, unexpected.

I sometimes use horse and cow poo too. They roam freely behind our house. I don’t use farmyard manure as cattle are routinely (and mostly illegally) fed antibiotics “to give them a boost” (in the words of a farmer I know). Just as the antibiotics kill bacteria in the animals, it kills the good bacteria in the compost.
