Unfortunately hope is a useless policy -one the left has relied on since the 80’s. Was the great failing of the established Labour Left not to warn incoming troops in 2016 of the unremitting duplicity of the Labour Right? I for one might then have been much more rigorous in having a clear out. Instead the unsubstantiated expectation was that they would fall democratically in line. What Starmer has done is a lesson in what WE should have done. The chance will not come again in Labour
