If I interpreted that correctly, the ‘Kind’ of an attestation is defined by who the root of the chain is. But unless you encode the chain by its timestamps, there is no root in a directed graph. The editor may be attested as such by the bookstore after they attested your book. They may have an attestation for an entirely different purpose (“great cook”) from someone unrelated to the publishing use case. The consumer may be seeing both, and more.
In order to encode the chain, each attestation would have to refer to the role attestation it is given with. But, as above, they may not be in a clear time order.

That chain idea is intriguing, but will be very domain/context specific. Especially given federation, what does it mean if some links of the chain come from a different context?
And is an attestation ultimately the same as decentralised labels are on ATproto? While those were (I think?) created for kind of moderation, I’ve seen them being used for entirely different purposes, like signaling account age.

I ran into this by coincidence and you don’t know me, so ignore at your will. However, my experience in both social networks and currencies suggest that if you try to limit max count, you’re making it more gameable. What might work is “weight”: the more people endorse me, the more my endorsement has value. The more I spread that to others, the less one endorsement means. It’s still very gameable and a market will form, but it balances better than a hard limit. Federated accounting will be a bit of a challenge.

It's true Signal uses APN to wake up the receiver's phone, but it does not pass any message content through Apple's servers. It could not, because Signal itself is unable to read the encrypted message content. The definitive proof of this is in the Signal source code. As @npub17m8…rsw8 correctly points out, Bluesky has created a conflict of operating both a "neutral" network as well as a "moderated" service, and ends up failing on both objectives.
It's also curious how they now have authenticity verification as DNS links, "decentralized" verification labels, and a self-operated verification, and fail to apply those consistently, too.

Nor would ATproto necessarily have to be this far into individuals-ahead-of-communities, but for the lack of any meaningful other services than Bluesky.

It's been clear for a while Bluesky isn't a good actor. Defenses to this are either "no alternative" or "but ATproto". These are both weak arguments.
For alternative: fediverse. And on protocol: Bluesky is so dominant, it effectively is the protocol.
I don't like Mastodon's dominant position on fedi either, but where Bluesky PBC is 99% of AT, mastodon.social is about 30% of active fedi.

Been using it ever since it was released.
1. It bridges public posts and replies made to other bridged accounts. "Quiet" posts are not bridged.
2. You're not on Bluesky but visible to Bluesky. Bridgy is the second largest ATproto server after Bsky.
3. Deletes are bridged too, but edits not, because ATP doesn't understand edits.
4. If someone replies to you and they're bridged, you see the reply. If they're not bridged, you get a DM with a link.

I'd like to suggest here that a certain amount of porosity is a tool. If I'm opted in, that means I want to be bridged, but also that I want to see interaction to what of my posts is bridged.

Related to @npub1fdr…lvhs thread: the largest (by far) not-Bluesky ATproto stack is #BridgyFed. But, because of toxic attitudes on Fedi, Bridgy users are cut off from seeing most Bluesky users, even if those users follow their accounts.

Many times over a long period, most recently this month. A nuclear weapon isn't technically difficult to build - the only significant hurdle is a stockpile of weapons-grade fissile material.

Strikes true. Yet at the other end of the same story is that the 1% AT&T research tax came from a hugely inflated monopoly revenue. It is arguable that striking down the monopolies has created more benefits.
The problem today is that the monopolies are returning with no intention of funding any of the research.

Yesterday's bomber strikes probably do not impact RuAF ability to use the planes for strike packages - they don't need many for that. If an A-50 was struck, that will have an impact. The strikes will affect Ru strategic nuclear force projection though. But more than that, the truck inspections security theater which has now begun will crush logistics. What does this mean for an app user? I haven't gone to check, but presumably this affects the browser behavior of the follower, based on their own server's setting, not the poster or their server. I can't see it changing anything for someone not using the Mastodon web UI, though. Am I wrong?
