As Laurens Hof (npub17m8…rsw8) correctly points out, Bluesky has created a conflict of operating both a "neutral" network as well as a "moderated" service, and ends up failing on both objectives.

It's also curious how they now have authenticity verification as DNS links, "decentralized" verification labels, and a self-operated verification, and fail to apply those consistently, too.

Though this goes a bit deep in the networks nerdery, Laurens Hof (npub17m8…rsw8) does explain in more detail the mismatch between ATproto and ActivityPub. He's also correct that Mastodon does muddy the waters. Nor would ATproto necessarily have to be this far into individuals-ahead-of-communities, but for the lack of any meaningful other services than Bluesky.
