Though this goes a bit deep in the networks nerdery, Laurens Hof (npub17m8…rsw8) does explain in more detail the mismatch between ATproto and ActivityPub. He's also correct that Mastodon does muddy the waters. Nor would ATproto necessarily have to be this far into individuals-ahead-of-communities, but for the lack of any meaningful other services than Bluesky.
