But, to periodically cut off power to thousands of people, for a guesstimated time frame. Last night, for the first time in many months, I slept through the night. I usually wake up once or twice for an hour or so. My secret?
Wednesday night the clowder tag teamed me for 6 hours, in an attempt to get me to put their food out. I was exhausted last night.
The first feline protest since I stopped leaving their kibble out at night. Tapping my head, singing the songs of their people, knocking down things they normally ignore, and more. One gets shooed out, and another started up. 🐱 😴 😼

It's been so long since I've seen it, but I think so. I love Star Wars, but not the later version.
It's definitely the one that isn't cluttered with a lot not the best, and not at all needed, CG people and critters in Mos Eisley. And doesn't have the scene on Mos Eisley between Han and Jabba before the Stormtroopers discover and attack the Millennium Falcon.

Exactly what I'm thinking. The high cost of trying to get those houses insured will be the final reckoning. Or, finding out that there's no home insurer for an area.
I remember something about some insurance companies no longer wanting to do business in Florida, for example. I imagine there are other areas frequently hit by catastrophic weather, beach front erosion, or wild fires, where the same thing is happening.

I'm sure in 50 years today's ads will be mercilessly mocked. But, "Maybe provide them better nutrition, rather than spank your child." They're not wrong. But, still. 🤨
When I was a child, Ovaltine had abandoned this ploy, and was just going head-to-head with Nestle's Quik. Chocks chewable vitamins were popular. A weekly spoonful of cod liver oil to stave off rickets was still a thing. "With vitamins and minerals," no matter how processed and sugar ladened, made it seem healthy.

I've been mucking about the Starship Trooper Internet rabbit hole, because of course I have.
It seems that as of March, 2025, plans are (were?) in the works for another Starship Troopers film. This time more closely aligning with the Robert A. Heinlein 1959 novel.

Have you seen "Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles" (1999)? It's an animated series, with Mr. Verhoeven as an EP. The series drops the satire, and goes for drama. I think it's a really good series, with excellent voice acting.
I stumbled upon one morning when I was getting ready for work, and was hooked. So, I'd make sure I was ready for work before it came on, and leave for work as soon as it was over, lol.
It's a good show that was poorly broadcast, and then cancelled.

I planned to re-watch this today!
I think some of the criticism the film received was unfair. The, "Do you want to know more?" spots, and the clipped and cliche military dialog were neon signs saying this is satire.
But, I think the criticism of the teen drama and acting was fair. Most of the cast did not have the acting chops to hit the right tone between satire and just poor acting performances. Except for Micheal Ironside, who Micheal Ironside'd perfectly.

Yesterday was the first time in months that it was cool enough to turn off the air conditioner. Cuddle puddles with the clowder returned.
Zeb was in Hondo's spot. Hondo knows from previous experience that he can't intimidate Zeb, so Hondo sat nearby, looking tragic. I got Zeb to move. Hondo got his spot back. Ketsu curled up by my head. Leia stole my spot when I'd get up, but eventually settled in behind my knees with Zeb. Here's to autumn. Not too hot, not too cold, autumn. 🍂 🐱 💤

Wait, there's a new Tron movie? "Tron: Ares."
Granted, I haven't watched a Tron movie since I saw "Tron" (1982). But, at least I knew that there was another Tron movie after the first one. Unlike Ares, which I never heard about, until now.

Briefly, some Bsky users expressed concerns about Bsky's uneven dispensing of punitive actions against users, actions seemingly with a bias aligning with the rhetoric of the US' current regime. The Bsky CEO chose to mock and troll such concerns on their Bsky account.

I'm not on Bsky, and have no plans to join it. I wish those on Bsky well.
I did expect Bsky to, at some point, become less than what was promised. Venture capital only lasts so long. I thought it would be something along the lines of bartering users info, ads, or subscriptions. I did not envisage a speed run into the current situation.
What happens next is in the hands of Bsky users. Stay, and take what dished out, or leave the platform. It's up to the individual to choose.

I was about to break down a cardboard box to put it in the recycle bin, when I was struck by the thought, "this is a perfect size for a cat toy box." Does the clowder already have a cat toy box? Yes. Do they use it? No. Cat toys are strewn all over the house, or just missing. Faced with this logic against having a new cat toy box, I decorated the box and christened it the new cat toy box.
Since I can't find some of their toys, I'll stock the new box with new toys for the clowder to lose.

Earlier this week, there was a shooting at an ICE detention center in Dallas, TX. Multiple rounds shot by a gunman from across the street. 3 people snatched by ICE were shot. Two are critically wounded, and one died. No law enforcement or ICE personnel were injured. Still, the current regime is spinning this as an attack on ICE by "the Left."
Main stream media keeps repeating this inflammatory accusation.
This timeline is the quicksand many of us were warned about as children.

The primary source of cat fur at this time of year -- Ketsu Onyo. Cat Ketsu is a boy cat. His namesake, Ketsu from Star Wars Rebels, is a woman. Neither cat Ketsu nor I care. It's a cool name.
He is a big sweetheart. Loves love. Does not like it when his brother, Hondo, wants some chaotic playtime. Which is always for Hondo.
The rest of the clowder grows a fluffy undercoat during winter. I comb it out when the weather warms up, and that's that. Ketsu grows a fluffy undercoat year round.

I need to vacuum the house. Some of the cat fur dust balls might be gaining sentience.
I've been using a manual sweeper daily – it's quiet and lightweight, but not great for cat hair. Vacuuming has been bumped to "later" too often. When I've got it in me to vacuum, the clowder is asleep. When the clowder is awake, I'm at a point in the day when, physically, I cannot vacuum.
I'll wake up the clowder before I start vacuuming, and then deal with the feline displeasure. By giving them cat treats.

The censorship of knowledge is an excellent point against this episode. Without sharing why there's a problem with the particle with the people Voyager encountered, what's to stop the same experiment from happening again. And, Starfleet can't be everywhere. I love straight Post Alley dark roast, but my GI tract doesn't. So I use 1 part Post Alley with 3 parts mid-roast ground coffee. I put a sprinkling of unsweetened cocoa on the grounds before brewing for a nice little taste of chocolate.
I'm creeping towards buying whatever mid-roast coffee is on sale. *Unhappy coffee drinker noises.* But, I'm continuing to buy Post Alley for as long as I can.

People's names have always been one of my weak spots. I talk to some of my neighbors, but I couldn't tell you their names.
The elder knew everybody. And, about everybody. She collected donations for funerals or for folks having a hard time. It was impressive. But, she wasn't a gossip. She would only say something to you about a neighbor if you asked, and only what was pertinent to a given situation. But, if you needed to know something, she was the source.
She was amazing.

The neighborhood elder who knew everyone once suggested that I take over her mantle. I declined. I'd have to remember people's names, and always pay attention to what they were doing. Not happening.
I do keep up with trash pick up day drama. The house that rarely puts their bin out before pick up. The one with able-bodied roommates leaving their bins at the curb for days. Very, "I put them away last time, it's your turn," energy. I'm also very judgy about neighbors who don't have a recycle bin.

I'm still cataloging my books. I've notice a few things.
📚 I've always been dreadful at remembering people's names. Based on the lack of duplicate titles so far, I've always been awesome at remembering the titles of books I've read.
📚 Older paperback books without bar codes on their back covers is a new, old experience.
📚 I found a copy of The Complete Plays of Aristophanes. I would love to talk to the me I was when I bought that book. Because right now, I don't know her.

I started re-watching it around the anniversary of its release date. I made it to them finding the derelict alien vessel. I felt more spooked than I expected by it, and turned it off. My justification? The cats aren't old enough to watch it. 😬

I agree that TNG "Tapestry" is a really great Q episode.
I like DS9 "The Changing Face of Evil," too. So many turning points for characters, all in one episode.
TOS "Obsession" isn't my favorite TOS episode, but I admire the show continuing to speak to contemporary issues in a science fiction setting. Teaching perspectives without seeming to do so.
VOY "Blood Fever" is an episode. I do love the end, when what turned out to be a teaser for future VOY episodes is revealed.

This was a "happened upon" film on TV, for me. I thought it would be background noise while I did other things. Instead, I set everything aside, completely pulled in. A fun, and fascinating film, with a wonderful cast.

Wow. DS9's "In the Pale Moonlight," and VOY's "Threshold" on the same night.
Each episode might leave viewers saying, "What just happened?" but for vastly different reasons.
Another great evening of Star Trek!

I was introduced to "Ghosts" with the US series. I saw the first two seasons before I watched some of the British series, so I was invested in the US characters. Once I did have a chance to watch a few of the British series' episodes, I enjoyed them. I only saw a few of the British episodes because of streaming access, not lack of interest.
This is a case where I like both versions of a series. 👻
