Does anyone have any tips for alternative online office suites? I am using Google Workspace at the moment and I am stuck with it for some time as it houses my Android phone profile, but I have moved mail and calendar to Fastmail and I am keen to move my online storage and office apps elsewhere as well. This is partly due to Google's collaboration with the IDF on AI killing machines but also the non-optional insertion of AI functions into everyday UX.

Ahhh fuck, I have to stop cat-sitting. It's fine when cats are happy and well, but with stressed or sick cats I keep being reminded of my cat Shifty who we had to euthanise at 4yo after 2 years in and out of the vet because my fuckwit ex bought him at a market pet store and he had FeLV. Add those memories to a depresso patch caused by moving out of home for >1 week and I'm just in horrendously bad spirits, crying uncontrollably. It's too stressful and I have to stop doing this to myself.

Gemma Carey was a friend, my employer and one of my PhD supervisors, very much in the past tense on all counts, and she died unexpectedly last week. Despite our falling out I've found the news incredibly distressing. Speculation is so unhelpful. Gemma was Extremely Online and the media coverage of her death is focusing on her tweets, which is predictable but completely overlooks her stellar academic career. My thoughts are with her husband Ben and their 2yo as they grapple with this loss.

For us anxious people there's a tendency to expect the worst, but it almost always helps to go in with an expectation that practitioners want to do the right thing if they can, and this is a problem we can solve together if I give you the right information, etc etc etc. I feel bad saying that because I know it's really hard to do that when you've had shit experiences of past care. In my work I train people to educate people with HIV on how to be 'effective patients' (ugh ugh ugh).

I'm thinking of the paradoxical coping I both witnessed and did in the early days of the pandemic. 'Oh, it's not safe to go outside? You're telling me!'
And queer communities pulled together through mutual aid networks to make sure their friends were getting fed.
But later down the track, we all broke, on different schedules, mostly alone.
We need food kitchens AND community. To survive we need dancing and open mic nights and crochet and woodworkers and music.

I am probably taking part in an interview for a study about past problematic drug use and its relationship (if any) with trauma. The study seems so carefully designed and I have major topic envy. I personally find Dr Gabor Mate's claims that all drug use and dependence is an expression of trauma VERY annoying. It's a deficit account that ignores the fact that drug use is pleasurable and meaningful and our brains form affinities for regularly administered substances with these effects.

I may need a med cert to take work off tomorrow. It's our AGM and it's a 9-5 meeting that I really doubt I can manage with post-Covid symptoms. Both of my GPs are on leave so I checked and the pocket doc (InstantScripts) will do one for $19 — but you're not eligible if you're having breathing difficulty. My guys, I have cardiac asthma, breathing difficulty is a fact of my daily life. I know the exact case their lawyers had in mind when crafting that exclusion, too. *grrr*

I am okay with being vaccinated but blood draws still make me squeamish after all these years. More than once I've had a nurse or phlebotomist say 'Don't you pass out on me!'

For a number of years I was on B-cell depleting therapy that interfered with that exact process and I had to get all my vaccinations redone every 12mo. Do you know how many separate vaccinations we get from birth onwards? It's like 43! (It's not, I've forgotten how many but it's a lot. I felt like a pincushion.)

You are right to keep an eye out for fever, low BP and any ''feeling of impending doom'' (that's the medical term for it!) that would signal possible sepsis. But yes, living with dental trauma for so long means the nerves will take a while to stop jangling. If it is that, pain management nerds recommend breathing but *not* mindfulness to signal 'oy, you lot can chill tf out now.'

Went back to the optom to ask for multifocals instead of reading glasses. I saw a different guy and he was a bit concerned that my last measurements showed a big jump in my prescription. Redid them and found a less dramatic increase. Still no idea what caused the change, though. 😑 Anyhow, multifocals are go.
