Most land area in the UK is still (informally) measured in acres.
I like the fact that an acre is a furlong by a chain, cos I can visualise that:- A chain is the length of a cricket wicket. A furlong is an eighth of a mile.
Also, an acre is the amount of land that one farmer (and horse, I assume) could plough in one day.
