By copying their details from some other universal database of everybody?
Um ... there isn't one? And if there was it would still need to have various information on it about the person's voting status (citizenship and whether they're a member of the HoL are the obvious ones).

In the past when driving to Cornwall we've noticed 200-odd mile traffic jams coming up the M5 the other way (admittedly in on-off fashion, but still "on" enough to reasonably be described as a 200 mile traffic jam).
Who, we wondered, would tolerate sitting in, and occasionally driving in, that?
Not us, we decided, when it happened to us today, and we went cross-country instead. At least that pretty well guarantees you an average 40mph from anywhere to anywhere in the UK.

So we hear that the average US house is sufficiently badly designed, built and insulated that it needs to burn carbon to run an air conditioner to keep cool in summer, have I got that right so far?
But please, please tell me that the AC uses the unwanted heat to heat the domestic hot water system in preference to dumping it outdoors, rather than burning EVEN MORE CARBON to heat the water separately at the same time?

Oh, does Staples still exist in some parts of the world?
Round here they started having very little on the shelves, with us customers assuming that this was because they were on credit hold with their suppliers. Then after a while of selling very little, because they had very little to sell, they closed down.

What's "real" is that American guns kept "in case we need to defend ourselves against intruders" are used to kill vastly more family members than intruders. A colossal failure of that theory.

The board itself plugs into an EPROM socket on the main board. It carries a pass-through socket for the EPROM plus a set of LEDs and drivers.
The LEDs are driven from the address lines, which obvs are available from the EPROM pins.
The EPROM contains the soak test code. If it discovers an error it goes into a deliberate tight loop at a known location which can therefore be read off the LEDs, thus giving the error number.

My theory about unacknowledged applications is that there are just so many applications these days. This isn't really an acceptable excuse for not replying, but it might be a reason.
And a factor to blame in there is the existence of consolidation web sites which scrape the job agency web sites, then allow you to do a search, "add results to basket" and "apply to all".
Some people won't even have read all the job descriptions for all the jobs they're applying for, let alone considered whether they might be a remotely suitable candidate.
In the old days you wouldn't take an expensively photocopied CV and an individually written letter to the letter box unless you thought the job was worth applying for.
