*end the right to buy, and then build public housing. There's no point if the councils loose them after 1 tenant.

Well, I wish you peace, sooner or later, however you find it. I know it's a difficult time, I spent a very long time pissed about Brexit, but that pales in comparison. I wish you safety as well.

But you always preach that composting is a personal action we can take to tackle climate change. That hasn't changed because the government has. Regardless who is in charge, and let's be realistic, no one in power was taking it as seriously as it needs to be taken, you can still make your tiny difference. It's not much but it's what there is, and it's certainly better than not doing it. There are still a lot of like minded people here.

Invisible women lady says that Volvo are (were?) the only car company to test with female crash dummies. We have different weight distribution and proportions, obviously, so we fly around differently in a crash, but most companies just use standard male dummies, making driving that extra bit exciting for us ladies.
*possible that the info is a little outdated and more companies are using them now?

It was some years ago and he admits that he changed his minds after learning more in the article. People have to be allowed to change their mind and change over time.

I think the message is slowly getting through, I know that some areas, having been straightening rivers for the last 50 years are now restoring them to their original winding paths and asking a lot of green space to act as a flood plane/soaking in areas.

Yes he recommended at least a year, and said it is important to let it "cure" at a lower temperature after the hot phase. Anyway I've linked it in the other comment, I don't need to repeat everything he wrote. You can check it out for yourself if you're interested.

Yes OK within reason, and he did not address micro plastics, maybe the book is too old.
But he was very dismissive of advice that many compost municipalities give out, for example he said he puts "animal fatalities", dairy products, cooked meat etc there which I always learned was a no no. He said that it won't smell and you won't have rats as long as your cover material (browns like straw, hay, whatever) is thick enough. Again, applies to hot composting.

Why don't you keep some citrus peels somewhere warm and moist for a while and see what happens?

Been reading the Humanure Handbook recently which also has a loaf of fascinating info about composting aside from the humanure aspect, and that dude reckons you can put just about anything in a hot compost bin, provided you treat it correctly and that it will break a down a ton of things like forever chemicals.
Cold composting and worm farms etc are somewhat different.
I'm sure this old news to @npub1sh5…uyrq

We have private insurance in UK as well, but the NHS acts like an anchor to keep the price down because if it gets too expensive people will just say nah, I'll wait in the NHS queue thank you.

I'm not denying @npub1vju…zzwd 's expertise, but their standard is still the US. I wonder how it compares to the NHS when it wasn't being bleed dry. Is it actually better?

I heard of course about people getting jobs for the healthcare. At the risk of sounding like a snobby European, having people reliant on their employer to get healthcare is barbarism. It's like the Victorian factory workers who loved in factory housing and would lose their house if they got fired.

there are a ton of other healthcare models that are mostly working around Europe and the world, why jump straight to the US, which has a reputation as something to be avoided?

Ah well, better privatise the whole thing then. /s
I'm no fan of labour, but if you only criticise without providing an alternative it can give the impression you're supporting privatisation, which going on the toots of yours I've seen, you aren't...?

or, maybe the tax code hasn't changed since the 50s when it was usual to have a single earner. Whatever the intention, it needs to change.

Friend of mine worked in academia for a while and was the main carer for his 2 kids. He said the bosses said they were quite capable of working massive hours and bringing up 2 kids, ignoring the fact that they often weren't the ones doing the raising but their wives!

It seems like the first step is to significantly reduce or end right to buy. I didn't know this was still in place, but it seems obvious that councils can't keep building houses indefinitely, they actually need a housing stock in order to house people.
If it's drained away as fast as it's built, then the councils won't be able to keep up indefinitely.

I guess being able to sell less for more is every business's dream - less handling costs, more profit. Slightly more risk maybe.

I'm 100% with you on this, you expressed some reservations I've privately felt. In fact this kind of repression was used against the left and I was dead against it, I can't now be in favour of it because it's used against someone with whom I disagree.
On the other hand, it does seen to work, but if we normalise it for this we also normalise it when used against other groups. Already being normalised I suppose. Maybe it's better to require things like fact checking?

it's definitely better than UK with the deposit system, but UK also has recycling. This is a good example of how a systematic change can make helping the environment easy, but if it's not there it's so much harder to do something as an individual.

we have that in Germany also! Along with all the other recycling. We also have "wertstoff" (valuable materials = recyclables) and "reststoff" (the rest of it) bags for pickup.
In addition there's a deposit system for glass and plastic bottles for refilling or recycling at most stores.
Some idiot keeps putting plastic bags in our bio (compost) bin though. Presumably they're "biodegradable" (in the lab, to microplastics) and it's just ignorance.
