I'm reading a Culture novel again now, for the first time since getting properly into Bitcoin and AI
There is a lot of AI in those stories, so it's interesting to read it now that it seems more realistic
And they're always pointing out that the Culture isn't so "organized"; no hierarchies and laws and so on. I guess it's what some anarchists would hope is possible
(They still have extraordinarily powerful armed forces though)

That's why, showing what UK is doing is so important, it's a glimpse into what the KYC process of age checks will be used for.
The whole problem is not with age checks, it's with deanonymization and use of that KYC data to silence people.
But.. age checks/blocks do have discriminating properties even if implemented correctly and anonymously, which the UK ALSO SHOWED by trying to ban VPNs for young people. This is an endless loop. The mount of information which would have to be blocked to stop those people is insane and would result in an extreme discrimination.
The moment they started talking about including VPNs in those bans, they showed they are ready to go down that rabbit hole.
Not a single word that age checks won't be used against people.

Not a single promise to change the system to anonymous when technology will allow for it.

I think this is also mostly a united states theme. There so many people only know politics for abusing power for selfintrest. But I think it is depending a lot on how connected people feel to their politicians.
I think in countries, where people feel better representation, political actions are more popular too.
