I’ve been fascinated with the idea that everything in our universe seems to sync up, and continues ticking along at the same time “framerate” through spacetime.
Anything that ticks along at a different rate would be marooned to the past or in the distant future, never to interact with us.
The curve traced by a point on a circle rotating over a flat surface is called a cycloid. Imagine painting a bright green dot on a bicycle wheel. Starting with the dot on the very bottom, move the bicycle forward until the green dot goes all the way up and back down to where you started. The curve traced by the bright green dot is a cycloid. If you painted another green dot on a spoke, it would also go around but never touch the bottom or top part, the curve it traces is called a curtate trochoid. Electromagnetic waves (like light) move in a cycloid-like trajectory, while matter moves as curtate trochoids (like dots on the wheel spokes).
Reality ticks along in discrete steps, and the size of these steps are unimaginably small because they are inversely proportional to the size our universe (the energy contained in it). It appears smooth for us massive observers. Because the “wheel” of reality isn’t perfectly smooth but instead is made of many little “teeth”, the surface on which it rides on also has teeth, just opposite in form. If it helps imagine trying to roll a square over a flat surface and watch the path traced by the corners. Add more sides to the square and you can see how it starts approaching a circle but never quite being one. The path traced by the corners of this polygon looks like very small bumps (think street bumps).
We are not in a circle however, but in a 4D hypher sphere, but keeping it as a circle helps our brains visualize what’s happening.

I actually noticed that with nak --- it isn't showing proof-carrying events returned from my inkan relay. When I get a chance I'll fix up my own version of nak to work with these.
When working through this, I noticed that there are two issues that can be thought of separately:
1. disseminating OTS proofs to relays;
2. making the proofs available to clients.
For proof dissemination, any sensible Nostr event shape will work. I think an addressable event with lots of tags for indexing (which can be skipped when not needed) works best, I've been sticking with my 31045s so far.
For making the proofs available to clients, the crucial thing is that the client needs to get the proofs synchronously with the reference event, i.e. the proofs should basically be spliced into the reference event.
So on that picture, the basic role that relays should play is to collect up available proofs and pre-verify them, select the best one (i.e. the one with the lowest block height) for each reference event, and then splice it into the reference event when it's sent to the client.
Is my current thinking.

plausible deniability server/relay + client:
- when you post to the server, you specify a symmetric encryption key, using that key to encrypt the content. but you don't tell the server the key
- any client displaying the content should take a key as an argument (url param would make for easy sharing), and attempt to decrypt the cyphertext clientside using said key
- if you provide the correct key, you can view the cleartext in the client. the server never knows what data it's storing - but for users, sharing the clear version is trivial: just share a url that includes the key.
- extra protection: the server/relay doesn't accept any cleartext content, so there's no moderation burden.

In my view, PoW dynamically gets more difficult for a spammer as they spam. It becomes an incredibly difficult barrier to overcome.

Why are you saying this will hurt real users, exactly? Real users aren’t spamming the relays, in your scenario you would punish them with higher PoW for *what reason*? That would be the only logical conclusion: you decided to treat spammers and normal users the same so their experience would suffer.
