Griffin shows how the 1907 panic, the very event the video celebrates as Morgan’s heroic solo rescue was the manufactured crisis the cartel needed to scare the public and Congress into accepting a central bank that America had already rejected twice before.
Murray Rothbard drives this home in The Case Against the Fed and his history of U.S. banking: the “Money Trust” Morgan led didn’t step in to save the system out of noble character; they used the panic they helped create (through fractional-reserve expansion and speculative bubbles) to eliminate competition, consolidate power, and lobby for a government-backed cartel that would socialize their losses while privatizing their gains.
Saifedean Ammous echoes the same in The Bitcoin Standard and Principles of Economics: this was the exact mechanism by which the banking elite replaced sound money and market discipline with inflation, debt, and the hidden tax on the masses that benefits the connected few.
Mises, and Hayek all warned, Hoppe explains today, that once you hand monetary power to a privileged cartel dressed up as “reform", you destroy liberty and sound economics.
Morgan wasn’t a lone genius saving America, he was the pivotal insider who delivered the fatal blow to the decentralized system the Founders intended.

Bitcoin Apps, die ich nutze – Teil 8: Bull Bitcoin
Heute eine Wallet-und-Exchange-Kombination, die in eine andere Liga spielt: Bull Bitcoin. Gegründet 2013 in Montreal, mittlerweile auch in Europa, Mexiko, Costa Rica, Argentinien und Kolumbien aktiv. Cypherpunk-orientiert, Bitcoin-only, 100% selbstfinanziert.
Bull ist nicht nur eine App, sondern ein Werkzeug, um sich Schritt für Schritt aus dem klassischen Banking zu lösen.
Was ich daran schätze:
→ Non-custodial Exchange. Bull hält die Coins nie, sondern leitet sie direkt in deine eigene Wallet. Anders als bei klassischen Krypto-Börsen gibt es keinen "Withdraw"-Schritt – du gibst von Anfang an deine eigene Adresse an.
→ Aus Bitcoin direkt fremde IBANs bezahlen. Ich nutze das, um EU-Rechnungen direkt zu begleichen – ohne Umweg über mein Bankkonto. Vermieter, Versicherungen, Abos: SEPA-Transfer an den Empfänger, ich verkaufe Bitcoin im Hintergrund. Das ist die eigentliche Stärke von Bull.
→ vIBAN integriert. Neu hinzugekommen: ein eigener Virtual IBAN auf meinen Namen. Den nutze ich aktuell, um Revolut, Wise und N26 aufzufüllen – mit dem mittelfristigen Ziel, diese Konten ganz auf 0 zu bringen und nur noch über Bull zu operieren.
→ BULL Wallet als eigenständige Wallet stark genug. Auch ohne Exchange-Nutzung lohnt sich die App: PayJoin (privacy-fördernde Transaktionen, wenn der Empfänger es unterstützt), Liquid-basierte Lightning-Zahlungen ohne Channel-Management, Auto-Transfer per non-custodial Atomic Swaps in die Cold Storage. Plus: Ark ist bereits im Experimentier-Modus integriert – ein neues Bitcoin-Layer-2 mit anderen Trade-offs als Lightning, an dem das Team aktiv mitentwickelt.
→ Cypherpunk-Ethos. Selbstfinanziert, Bitcoin-only, Open-Source. Das ist kein Marketing-Klingelwort, sondern erkennbar gelebt.
Was man wissen sollte:
→ KYC nur bei Exchange-Nutzung – nicht für die Wallet. Wer die BULL Wallet rein als selbst-verwaltete Liquid-Lightning-Wallet nutzen will, kann das ohne Identitätsabgabe. Erst wenn man die Exchange-Brücke nutzt – Bitcoin in Euro umwandeln, SEPA-Transfers an fremde IBANs, vIBAN beantragen – wird KYC nötig. Diese saubere Trennung gibt dem User die Wahl, wo er Compliance akzeptiert.
→ PayJoin braucht einen Partner. Funktioniert nur, wenn der Empfänger PayJoin auch implementiert hat. Bei normalen Adressen läuft die Zahlung als Standard-Transaktion durch.
→ Spreads und Gebühren. Non-custodial heißt nicht gebührenfrei – Bull verdient an Spreads beim Wechsel und an Service-Gebühren. Für gelegentliche Nutzung kein Problem, bei großen Volumen lohnt der Vergleich mit OTC-Optionen.
→ Verfügbarkeit länderabhängig. Aktuell EU, Kanada, Mexiko, Costa Rica, Argentinien, Kolumbien. Außerhalb dieser Regionen geht's nicht.
Mein Fazit:
Bull Bitcoin ist für mich kein "Konkurrent" zu Phoenix oder Aqua, sondern ergänzt sie auf einer anderen Ebene: nicht Wallet-Funktion, sondern Banking-Brücke. Mit der vIBAN-Funktion und der Möglichkeit, direkt aus Bitcoin EU-Rechnungen zu begleichen, ist Bull das einzige Werkzeug in meinem Stack, das mir realistisch ermöglicht, klassische Bankkonten Stück für Stück abzubauen. Das ist der eigentliche Gewinn – nicht eine weitere App, sondern ein Schritt Richtung tatsächlicher finanzieller Souveränität.
Und selbst wer nicht auf die Exchange-Funktionalität angewiesen ist, bekommt mit der Wallet eine technisch progressive App mit PayJoin, Liquid und Ark-Experimenten.
