Describe a statue you have seen that struck your fancy.
I've long been partial to 'Medusa with the Head of Perseus' by Luciano Garbati. Mythological legends can always use a well-placed storytelling kick in the pants, and I think this statue rights at least a few wrongs from that particular story quite nicely.

I was a Crim-head first, starting back in high school. "Sober" got me into Tool, and the more I listened, the more I started drawing comparisons between the bands.

I've only seen Tool twice, but...well, those were memorable shows.
King Crimson is more complicated - I saw them under that name twice, but if you count all the spin-off bands...including last year's Beat tour with Danny Carey on drums, that number shoots up quite a bit 🎵

Do you like music with unusual time signatures?
Yeah, this cartoon was made for me.
My taste in music runs to the complex. I'm fine with a dance beat around others, but don't seek it out when alone.
Lifelong jazz and prog fan. King Crimson were masters of the time shift, and Tool picked up that torch. There's no mosh pit at a Tool show with good reason. Hell, even with Zep, it's the lovely polyrhythmic Kashmir I'm reaching for.

Which of these would you like best for a weekend creative retreat: lake house, mountain cabin, city apartment, or oceanside hotel?
Lake house means kayaking, while mountain cabin is hiking; if they are both as isolated as I'm picturing them there's lots of quiet inspiration to be found.
But then, immersion in a city can provide so much: snippets of dialogue, possible scenarios, perhaps even a dog in sunglasses riding a skateboard.
Oceanside is last. Never a beach person.

There is definitely something lovely about the scent; I take it the *soap* sensation does not extend to the bouquet?

Cilantro has such a unique flavor; I can't imagine some dishes without it (but thankfully the "soap" gene is switched off for me).
Years ago, part of a ceremony I was helping to facilitate involved sharing small cups of soup. The other facilitator made me promise to add no cilantro, but then it was me who almost lost it when I tasted my soup mid-ceremony and realized she'd added a ton of hell's own herb, dill.

Do you plant a garden each year?

Good call. I'm keeping my FB account open to keep tabs on a few folks, but overall Meta has been awful: there's no distinction between "I'm doing this thing to make a profit" and "I just want like-minded people to find each other" and I refuse to give Zuckernuts a dime.
Especially after reading about all the heinous things he did right before he died earlier this week. 😅

The seasonal thing is interesting. It may explain why I only "won" NaNoWriMo once - and I recall struggling all month to keep crafting more words and not fix the ones I'd already written. November is simply not my drafting season - at least, not here in the northern hemisphere.

I used to focus on the novel or other long project and not allow myself the freedom to consider anything else. Lately, I've written a number of short fiction pieces s well as a bunch of just-for-fun drabbles on a discord writing group, and at the same time I think I'm making *better* progress on the novel. I suspect that my creativity is just not something that adapts itself well to priorities and deadlines.

Absolutely. I've learned not to fight my writing urges; if I try to tell myself I "must finish this before considering that," I'll never work on either project.
My novel progress has faltered of late, and I'm sure it's because of my reaction to the US election. I found I needed to first write a short story that helped push a lot of anger out of me and onto the page. Many characters died.
Finally, just in the last couple of days, I was able to move back into the novel.

Rational, highly-scientific-method Haley, of course. Nana's always been there for her, and hasn't allowed her own death to come between them. It just takes a while for Haley to realize that.
She's keenly interested in how the dead seem able to reach across the veil and affect some people but not others, and suspects a neurological key.
