Yesterday the entire #Minneapolis Schitty Council* voted to accept an $18 million bid for a new 3rd precinct building at 2633 Minnehaha. They call it a "Co[p]mmunity Safety Center" though, so yknow, everything's fine! Nobody went back on their promises or stated values! Everyone likes community safety, right????

Seems like police in Cincinnati conducted an operation worthy of a major summit protest to arrest several dozen people, and tow and/or destroy even more cars while breaking up a sideshow earlier this weekend.
Police abolitionists (and even reformers, really) should give a shit about the repression of car show culture because at the end of the day, it's not the cars (love em, hate em, or in between) - it's about the culture. It's about police doing the bidding of city elites to suppress regular folks who dare to use public space in different and creative ways - while mega corps get a free pass to use that space however tf they want no matter how destructive.

NPR (National Pandemic Reinforcers) did a segment that started with, "For most people, if not all of us, pandemic masking is a thing of the past...."
Then the segment went on to talk about how lots of Olympic athletes are wearing masks and avoiding large groups, to limit the chance of getting sick and performing poorly. It also mentioned other athletes, like the Finnish hockey team, who took neither of those preventative measures, and are now in fact quite sick (the team even had to cancel a game).
Some people would see Olympic athletes wearing masks as an endorsement. Not NPR, I guess!

Some notes from friends otg in #Minneapolis about what's been working to defend neighbors from #ICE and what's not:
--ICE agents are getting even more angry and aggressive. Yelling and making them miserable is effective at getting them to leave, but keep your distance. Scream, holler, make a scene.
--Running from ICE works - they generally are not pursuing. This is true on foot/bike and in vehicles. If you allow yourself to be pulled over by ICE there's a good chance you'll end up with a broken window or detained.
--If you're in the streets a lot, change up your look/clothing/etc to avoid being recognized. ICE agents are also starting to recognize cars used by community defenders.
--Liberals are still telling people to stay calm, obey, etc. It doesn't work. Do not stay calm. Do not obey.
--Many businesses are keeping their doors locked, having customers knock to enter. Lots of places are closed. Neighbors who didn't know each other before are looking out for each other, even out in the burbs. We keep us safe - we're not alone, so if you can, get out there and be part of the resistance.

So, I just read the latest Your Local Epidemiologist newsletter, which discussed that the U.S. FDA is expected to license the 2025-6 #covid vaccine this Friday or soon after, and likely restricted to people 65+ and "high risk" people. Given that, the newsletters recommendation is: ❗ "if you’re under 65 and not high risk, the window to get a Covid-19 vaccine is right now—before the FDA label changes. Once it happens, access will be limited immediately (if it isn’t already).

So to guard against whether or not I'll be able to get that high risk designation, I started calling pharmacies in my mid-size city. Most of the say on their website that covid vax appointments are available now via appointment or walk-in. After navigating their phone robots in order to talk to actual pharmacists, here's what I found about the current (2024-5) vaccine availability here:
All the Walgreens: totally out
All the Walmarts: totally out
All the Health Marts: totally out
CVS: out
Indy pharmacy #1: totally out
Indy pharmacy #2: one single dose remaining [this, and the other places, said they won't be ordering more til the 2025-6 vax is available for them)
I gave up, but then got a callback from a CVS inside Target (their phone system literally doesn't let you talk to a human, only leave a message). They have "a few" doses left. So that's where I'm headed, I guess.
Not only are all these places just not bothering to keep stock of the vax for the biggest plague in our lifetime, they also are giving on their websites (and giving via their phone voice robots!) complete disinformation about availability, and not a single person bothered to mention to me how severely the 2025-6 vax is likely to be limited.

Been meaning to make this post for a while and putting it off bc idk how to do it right, but here goes: earlier this summer I learned of the passing in April of the legendary Twin Cities tagger Transtifa, who tormented local nextdoor nerds and facebook fascists more than perhaps any single person over the past 5+ years.
Seeing a transtifa tag around town always made me and my homies smile - and you were bound to see them everywhere, because that bitch got AROUND. How did she do so much? I learned how one day after catching a glimpse of her roller skating down a dark street at lightning speed in a crop top and short shorts, bag of spray cans and paint pens slung over her shoulder.
I was hashtag blessed enough to meet her before Transtifa took off, thanks to (and this fits her perfectly) grindr. We didn't totally hit if off at the time (mostly bc i figured she was totally out of my league, lol) but we did have a nice stroll around town sharing art tips. Later we worked together on some art in advance of an action and damn, her freehand lettering sucked but she blew me away by climbing out to paint the outside of a railroad bridge with zero hesitation :neomouse_googly_shocked: Tbh just the amount of haters she had was admirable.
She was one of the boldest and bravest people I knew, one of the few people I've ever remained in awe of after meeting them, and lived far more in her too-few years than most people do in a lifetime. I didn't know her well but I miss her a lot--just knowing she was around tearing up the streets gave me something vaguely like hope.
I'd say be the transtifa you want to see in the world, but there won't be another quite like her and I wish I'd told more how much I appreciated her when I could. Rest in power and paint, girl.

Alright, finally got a report from a comrade I trust very much who was otg at the #Minneapolis ICE/DEA/ATF/FBI et all raid today. Main points:
--Shortly after the raid began, MPD arrived and conferred with federal agents; from their convo it seemed possible that MPD had not previously been notified of the raid. The feds did claim that it was "not immigration" related.
--Near 11:30, some armored vehicles and enforcement agents departed; the swelling crowd moved to the front of the business that was surrounded by feds and MPD. MPD soon departed and additional federal reinforcements arrived. Protesters blocked a van and feds responded with pushing and shoving at this point; one person was violently detained, but later released. Many small groups then began to impede the progress of federal vehicles, which led to more violence from the feds and MPD returning to the scene in larger numbers.
--Subsequently, feds and HCSO deployed pepperballs and spray on a few occasions. A community member fainted and was taken to the hospital. My comrade did not see anyone from the business detained nor anyone else in custody taken away from the scene.
-- My comrade's assessment was that the search warrant story may have been a pretext to conduct a large military-style operation in a largely immigrant neighborhood - but that none of the law enforcement agencies present seemed fully prepared to do crowd control or secure their operation given the size of the community response.

Sahan Journal reports from #Minneapolis that the state forces deployed rubber bullets and pepper spray [note that the exact form of such munitions are often misidentified by people otg), and that several protesters were "arrested" (the word of a witness, who might well mean "detained". Many officers were seen with ICE badges.

UPDATE on #Minneapolis ICE (attempted?) raid: I'm getting somewhat conflicting reports from on the ground, but all seem to concur that ICE and the associated agencies have left the area. Some folks are saying that people who were detained were then released, but I'm not sure if that's the case.
According to nicepersonality.social on blooski who was on the ground, Hennepin County Sheriffs blocked off traffic and were present since the beginning of the action; Transit Police and MPD came later. Tear gas was deployed at one point against protesters in the vicinity of the nearby Bloomington Ave crossing over the Midtown Greenway. The FBI and DEA were also on the scene.
Federal agents also took boxes from the Cuatro Milpas restaurant into their vans.

Ok people so last weekend I tabled at a zine fest in Nebraska with like 25 vendors. The state is overwhelmingly Trump country and Omaha has a Republican asshole mayor and a Republican asshole congressperson. The organizing crew was 4 people. They bought a bunch of kn95s cheap in bulk. They put masks required on all their promo materials. They rotated duties so there was always one person standing at the door to the pertinent area next to the welcome table (the rest of the building did not require masking) and simply handed masks to anyone coming in who wasn't already wearing one.
The event lasted 5 hours and was attended by hundreds of people. In my estimation, 99%+ of people were masked up. It was busy the entire time. I made a lot of buxx and made a lot of good connections. It was rad. A lot of people expressed their appreciation for the masking, and I personally heard no complaints. Shoutout Alt Pub Omaha.
Your crew can easily do this too.

Are you MAILING SHIT? Don’t be a goddamned sucker and wait in line at the post office for chrissakes. You will wait a long time and be mad. The people behind you will also be mad. Instead, go to USPS dot com, make an account, print a label for your package, and then you can either schedule a pickup at your door or take it to the PO and just leave it on the counter/in the bin/hamper/whatever your post office has without needing to wait. Bonus: it’s cheaper than the retail counter! Don’t have a printer? Use your work’s, a friend’s, or your dealer’s. It will still be faster than waiting in line.
Are you mailing LOTS OF SHIT, like from your uncharacteristically popular Etsy store? After you print those labels, make a fuckin SCAN FORM so that the postal clerk can scan one barcode instead of making the whole line wait while they scan all 20 of your barcodes individually as the pile grows taller and wider. The clerks will remember you and be nice to you.
Are you RECEIVING SHIT? Do you have your tracking number? Are you tempted to call customer service or a 1-800 USPS number to ask why tf your package is late? FUCKIN PLEASE DO NOT. Once the package is received by the carrier, the shipper has no way of knowing more than the tracking information that you the customer can see. Saw a couple shitty posters out and about for "CPAC", our local version of "community control of the police", the other day. Ever since 2020 this local coalition of authoritarian socialists and sundry front groups has been pushing this agenda to siphon off energy from abolitionist organizing. My hypothesis is that they know full well that community "control" of cops has something that's been tried and failed over and over, but they just can't imagine a world where they're not allowed to tell other people what to do. They also really, really enjoy pretending that collecting signatures puts them on the front line of struggle.
Anyway, last local election, their petition drive got rejected because the city clerk claimed they didn't have enough valid signatures to move ahead. So what are they doing this time around? The exact same thing!
To inoculate against this strange vision where policing is OK as long as your local communist org is telling it what to do, I recommend reading and distributing this analysis by folks here in Minneapolis. (If you'd like it as a zine, dm me for the pdf).

Today I learned an interesting fact about the famous Diego Rivera “Detroit Industry Murals”, a series of huge frescoes painted for the Detroit Institute of Arts in 1932. They sparked huge controversy at the time - was it because they humanized the unemployed local workers, six of whom were murdered by Ford security during a March that year? Maybe the nude figures holding armloads of grain and fruit? Or was it the representation of Coatlicue, the Aztec goddess, depicting the sacrifice of workers to the “gods” of industry?
It was none of these. The Catholic Church was outraged instead by the panel depicting an infant being vaccinated surrounded by doctors (“three wise men”) and the animals that provides the serum. Thankfully - their efforts to whitewash all the panels in response did not succeed.
