Here we all want the same thing, namely a btc world (and of course stables are the same shit as dollars).
I'm just saying that it's unrealistic to expect normies to jump directly to btc. Stables are an unpleasant but necessary intermediate step to get them comfortable with using a wallet, seed phrase, sending tx etc. Once they are familiar with that it'll be much easier for them to embrace btc

It's my own narrative, I simply don't see any other way to get more normal people comfortable with using btc and get to a world wide adoption stage.
What do you think is the path to "hyperbitcoinization" then?

This comment will be most likely ignored (as I’ve noticed non-technical comments get little consideration).
IMO this whole story raises much worry because it has revealed that core:
1) has very little consideration for non-economic node runners
2) their reaction was authoritarian, incredibly arrogant and immature
3) the reasons provided were not sufficiently strong and had way too many assumptions (pretty clear it was done for gains)
4) suddenly bitcoin is not a database for money but rather a database for whatever
5) increasing the limit by 1000% instead of in smaller incremental steps is not a cautious way to proceed (what happened to move slowly and not brake things?)
The change itself could be ok, but it’s the whole other aspects cited above that are worry af. This could be the first of many worse steps, gotta keep the vigilant paranoia up man

We both agree that fees will rise, but the reason will be increase of use of the blockchain, not increase of price (although it makes sense the 2 will go hand in hand).
1) what do you mean plebs will not have any utxo on layer 1? Do you think they will use only layer 2/lighting without having any utxo on layer 1?
I don’t think this is what is gonna happen. I see more likely that pleb will use layer 1 only for important transfers and most of all to store their savings, and use layer 2 for smaller payments (what many of us already do now actually)
About the future role of nodes I think is too far ahead in the future to try assess how it will develop (things change in unpredictable way). But I think the 2 main reasons for running a node today will persist in the future too (and maybe other reasons will be added)

The fees don’t increase if the price of btc increase. Fees are not related to the price of btc, but rather to how many people are making transactions on layer 1 on chain (many people want to transact on layer 1 = high fees).
They do say that one day mostly (mostly, not only) big entities will use layer 1 on chain to transact (because they are the guys who move millions and billions and they need to do it within a certain time frame, and so it makes sense to pay a high fee for them given their situation). But even in that scenario a normal nobody pleb is still incentivized to run a node because:
1) you want to verify yourself with your node that your utxo are real (if you use somebody else node you are trusting somebody else telling you “yes you have these utxo with these amounts”)
2) it is still in your best interest to make the btc network as decentralized as possible and not to trust others to do it for you (especially big entities, because they have never fucked as over in the past/present right?)
3) if there is some dispute in the bitcoin community (like for example now with core/knots) running a node is your way to “vote” in the bitcoin network (you got no node? You don’t get to vote)

I have a different opinion to what is being said in most comments here: it’s in your best interest to self custody, and not because of ethos, but because:
1) avoid possible risk of confiscation through etf
2) giving more btc to etf makes it easier for them to manipulate the price (price suppression, and is in your best interest that btc price goes up)
3) with etf you contribute to sustain this abomination of financial system. You might get rich in fiat through etf, but then perpetuate this fiat system and will have to stress the rest of your life where to put your wealth not to be debased/confiscated/easy to use (and I think is in your best interest to have a life where you don’t have to stress about preserving your wealth and can just enjoy your life)
4) having said this I get wanting to “edge” (maybe make it max 10%?) but I think it is still in your best self interest for the reasons explained above

The dude said that unless you run a node with public IP and lots of bandwithd than you are not contriibuting to decentralization. And he also made the example that if you had a node on Mars you wouldn’t contribute shit to decentralization
