according the cpi calculator, 4K in 2000 is worth roughly $7,900 in today's money
also, the US had about 281 million people in 2000 vs about 340 today - about a 20% increase

In DNA sequencing papers, it is now common to have 10+ authors, and by time the 1st round of reviews come back, those authors are scattered to the 4 winds
and contacting all the coauthors, much less getting them to sign off on changes made to accomadate reviewers, takes a long time
which, I would speculate, accounts for the sometimes *very long time it takes for a paper to get accepted

and the physics guy comes up to me, VERY serious, I mean, listen to me please serious, and he says
that power supply is very dangerous, you can easily kill yourself with it

1% of that is 500 million
honestly, I know it sounds absurd (and it is) but in the federal budget, 100 million dollars is just not a lot of money; it is such a small amount , it has zero real world impact on other spending
true, it maybe used to justify cuts to other places, but realisticaly 100 million is a tiny tiny amount

Gold foil is a common thing on major public buildings
not sure about the Karat thing, but the foil is "21 gramweight" which means it is fucking 125 microns (about 5 thousanths of an inch) thick
so not clear, at all , how out of line this is for this sort of project
also, it is clear the statutes needed to be refurbed and the fuckers in the Obama an Biden admins hadn't gotten their fucking act together to do this

I can't speak for big corporations, but at the very small biotech where I worked until I retired last year, nearly every manager, PhD , and engineer found that LLMS were extremely powerful and extremely useful tools
we had NO policy on LLM use, and people just starting using them naturally, in their day to day work without any prompting
so i would say your post is pretty much BS

but for about 35 years, my impression has been that 95% of the time when storage is an issue, the easiest cheapest solution is just buy a bigger hard drive, which you are gonna have to do anyway, cause next year *all the downloads will be 2 or 4 or 8x as large

took a long time, but far as I can tell credo is a wholly owned subsidiary of BRC and this is a quarterly report
for some reason, I can't find a pdf for this, but they appear to have annual income of around , very roughly, 800 million dollars
so it isn't clear what % of credo's income is given to charity - they claim 95 million since 1985, which is what, 2 million a year which isn't much cause it is tax deductible so I really am totally confused !!
