It would be useful rather than to always be on the defensive, to also publish articles explaining what graphene does for everyday people. Ive converted at least 4 people and they all love having a phone **they** control.
Being on the defensive at all times makes you seem weak, but you are a strong and much loved project. Stop giving the naysayers so much time! Promote your message!

They've been using Linux desktop machines since they were 5 or so, but they mostly point and click things, command line stuff is limited to basically cd, ls, and maybe running a command, occasionally chmod.
That's a lot compared to their peers, but I still think they'd benefit from like a PDF or website they can quick reference so they can learn a bit more independence. chmod, mkdir, touch, emacs key commands, the names of files like /etc/fstab, find, or whatever.

When I arrived at college in the early 90's Unix machines were just not available to home users, so the Unix machines at my school were something I had to learn from scratch. The computer center at my campus had several dense 2 sided quick reference handouts for common commands at the command line, and for using Emacs printed on colored paper in stacks in each lab.
Fast forward, it's 2026 there is probably a better quick start for my kids... what is it?

My son received 20/50 on the assignment he spent 15 or so hours doing a few weeks ago. The feedback didn't make good sense, he literally did all the things she said he hadn't done. Also the professor accused him of using AI instead of answering himself. Finally, when he asked her to explain what was up she said she gave him a bad grade just to wake him up, and that he actually had done everything 100% right and he just needs to reformat some things into a template she prefers...

An interesting post. I have a very different experience of math than most, being both a math major and a PhD in Engineering, and an Anarchist... To me, math is valuable for reasons outside of capital's reasons, but I do recognize that there's an aspect of mathing up economics and using it to justify power that's a super strong motive for capital

I think it's a good point, but also I think we are at a point where people with tons of money can buy up property and then mint new money through bank loans using the property as collateral, so by itself tax on cash holdings is not enough to change this power structure.

Although owner/operators have a certain amount of power that spills over from capitalist power, they also have the ability to work harder or less and adjust the output of the company because they themselves contribute to the **industry** and that's the difference. Business is defined in their classification as extraction of profit from industry by threatening to destroy or reduce industry's effectiveness by legal means, and industry is "doing the work to make the stuff"

Bichler and Nizen exclude the contribution of "owner operators". So for example if there's a local construction contractor and the owner is hauling materials around, inspecting work, doing quality control, interfacing with customers, helping with designs, etc... that person isn't what they consider a "capitalist", meaning a "pure owner".

They threaten to fire workers, thereby sabotaging the output of the bike factory, unless workers agree to wages that are sufficiently low that after sales of bicycles and paying wages, there is money left over for Musk /owners. Since the workers rely on these jobs to eat and maintain their shelter and childrens health and such, the workers accept this protection racket like the owner of a restaurant pays the mob so that their glass storefront doesn't get broken weekly

Musk is busy doing other stuff, he is not actually *running* this bike company, he merely owns it. Similarly I merely own some shares of various companies in my IRA or whatever, I don't participate in any of them.

First how does the insight work. To them, an "industry" is a group of people cooperating together to produce goods and services. The bicycle industry is welders, painters, truck drivers, engineers, quality control and inspection people, testers, marketing, and some ordering and logistics and bookeeping etc. Each person does something needed to get bikes into the hands of customers.
But suppose you're Elon Musk or whoever and you just buy 55% of the stock of some bike mfg.

Took the old one out, it clearly had deteriorated and had huge friction compared to what it was supposed to (possibly minerals possibly plastic degradation). Went and replaced the handle with a new one from ACE hardware, problem solved. Thanks for the advice!

So looking into it further, i'd say it's old plastic that's degraded and become much higher friction, so I think I'll just replace the handle and it'll probably work fine once I do that, at least that's a good first step I think. the plastic is clearly brittle so might as well replace now and then solve further problems from that starting point.

I imagined a sliding weight so I could adjust the torque to tune it just right. I did do it myself. Likely the handle came with the original flush valve and was designed around the fairly heavy ABS plastic piece that was used instead of a flapper. So maybe I should just buy a new handle, and/or just take it apart and put it back together, cleaning it and seeing if it is too tight or has minerals dried on it or whatever that makes it sticky.

#plumbing people. I've got a toilet where after replacing the flush valve, it's now a flapper, and so the weight of the mechanism is less, and the handle doesn't return up after pushing down. I remember to pull it up, but my wife often forgets. There's no reason she should have to remember, a simple weight would provide the torque to right the handle... surely such a weight is a thing already commonly available and you can just buy them right? What are they called so I can find it at the store?

The issue is that random people are not security experts nor do they read security experts advice. Bitlocker is a Microsoft product that encrypts your laptop hard drive etc. Apparently, Microsoft exfiltrates a recovery key for your Bitlocker encryption and stores it in their cloud, they give it out to law enforcement at request. And of course, they give it out to whoever compromises their system and steals that info. Bitlocker is completely worthless trash. Do not rely on it for information security.

If you want to do research and things on a computer and you don't want it to leave any trace on your computer, get yourself a copy of TAILS OS for a USB stick. You put it on a USB stick, and then boot your windows/PC computer with it, you now route everything through Tor, have Tor browser, and nothing is saved on the USB stick. Everything you do disappears as soon as you reboot and remove the USB stick.

On android you can use Orbot and tell it to route Signal through the tor network. So then people won't know who is sending messages by tracking IP addresses.
Finally, don't use biometric unlock on your phone. EVER. Use a pin, because cops can legally just force you to put your finger on your phone.

Get Tor Browser on your phone as well. It works just fine on Android. It isn't possible to use on iPhones because they only allow reskinned versions of safari on iPhones.
If you can afford it, get a Pixel phone, used is fine, and install GrapheneOS on it. If you want high security for location tracking don't put google stuff in your main profile, create a profile just for google apps.

Get a copy of Tor Browser, and use it for research related to resistance.

Its not vigilante justice to stop a person chasing another person down the street with a machete. it is vigilante justice to find out that someone got cut up, assume who did it, hunt them down and do them harm. one is immediate defense the other is vengeance etc. they are different.

If you ever wanted to become a mystery writer I think there could be a market for Anarchist mysteries... in my view this genre already kind of exists, often the PI is a symbol for an extra-systemic source of justice. But it could be a lot more explicit and propagandize for cop abolition and horizontal mutual aid networks and such. create a fictional world people would want to inhabit

Ron said the listing freaks are also all over herping as well. and he even mentioned one particular town where if you go to the one cafe for breakfast theres practically a dividing line with the rare birders on one side and the rare herpers on the other... Like the Lister brothers hes not a fan of the competitive or list oriented subculture, but finding salamanders, newts, frogs, lizards, snakes, etc just for the beauty of experiencing wetlands and nature is a great thing.

My cousin is here we have been planning some herpetology hunts for tomorrow. this evening we watched Listers on YouTube. i watched it back in Thanksgiving, thanks to @npub1prs…eh8y noone believed me it was gonna be worth it but they all were thoroughly delighted by the end. About halfway through the movie theres a story about a guy who cheats on his bird sighting, and then gets bitten by his pet king cobra. My cousin immediately said he knew that guy personally, they live in the same town...

Watched The City Of Lost Children (1995) with my sister. I'm pretty sure I saw it back in the day but I didnt remember much about it. Truly a bizarre film with that 90s creativity that I dont think has been much available in the post 9/11 world.
