For example, if you run the prompts through OpenRouter and see the cost is $100, and you run it through a Claude subscription and see it used 2% of your limit, then you can infer that you'd get about $5,000 from Claude's subsidization.

@nprofile…7epg Anthrophic and OpenAI have so drastically subsidized their subscriptions that even with reduced usage, you're probably still getting a killer deal.
Before this throttling, that last stat I heard was that the $200/month Claude Max plan gives up to $5,000 worth of inference (what you'd pay through OpenRouter or the direct API).

Not only does Megaphone incorrectly set the enclosure length attribute to 0, they also forcefully (and unnecessarily) re-encode customers' MP3s, stripping all ID3 metadata, including legacy MP3 chapters along the way!

I was originally planning to launch with Whisper 3 via Groq, which is also very fast and cheaper. But it doesn't have the nice features that DeepGram has. I found that Whisper segments transcripts better than Deepgram when there's music in the background. But I built PodChapters to make its own segments from the "word" transcripts.

@nprofile…7y5m I already have exporting JSON. Right now, it will import chapters only from the legacy MP3 chapters, but I'll eventually offer a JSON import, too.
But this new features (Heh. The _whole product_ is a new feature!) will host the JSON and chapter images for you. So you could use PodChapters to change the chapters later and never have to redownload and re-upload elsewhere.

Polar and Paddle are merchants of record, which I think is more than I need. Besides, they're both proving difficult to integrate with Better Auth and Convex.
Even Better Auth and Convex is proving difficult, with some inaccurate documentation and overly complex setup.
All the momentum and excitement I had for launch my new product has come to a screeching halt.

Yowza. Auth + billing is way more complicated than it should be!
I've tried Convex Auth, Better Auth, Clerk, Kinde, Paddle, Dodo Payments, Autumn, and Polar.
They all have deal-breaking frustrations.
For example, Clerk is the easiest to implement, but the UX for a new user isn't very good (subscribe ➜ sign up ➜ subscribe).

Polar might do everything at 4% + 40¢ (covering Stripe core fees) + Stripe's 0.5% Billing feature. And Polar requires a lot more manual set up and is the merchant of record that I don't think I need.
And I've seen that directly integrating with Stripe is actually a nightmare because of inconsistencies and API weirdness.
I won't work with LemonSqueezy because of a horrible months-long customer experience they still have yet to fix.
Is there something else I should be considering?

For my upcoming new #podcasting tool, I'm trying to build the authentication and billing natively in it (instead of using WordPress + MemberPress), but it's expensive!
Clerk does subscriptions for Stripe fees + 0.7% (no Stripe Billing fees), but not one-time payments.
Kinde does only monthly subscriptions.
Better-Auth's Stripe plugin does only subscriptions.

After @nprofile…ywdy added the new OP3 API endpoints to get 1-/3-/7-/30-day and total episodic downloads, I've been playing with displaying it on my DeskHog mini computer.
I just added the feature for it to change the color of each stat base on whether it's higher or lower than the same stat of the previous episode! For example, My #400 ("What's a Podcast Anymore?") is better on every metric than #399. And #401's 1-day downloads stat is better than #400's.

For publishing tools (like PowerPress), I'm including a field to say _where_ the option can be customized.
And for podcast apps, I'll support multiple images fields to _show_ where and how features show up (especially if it's different based on circumstances, like episode numbers in an "episodic" vs. "serial" podcast).
I'm getting excited about having a place podcasters and developers can finally see all this information laid out so well!

While Podcasting2.org shows only Podcasting 2.0 features and simply what apps and tools support them, canipodcast.com will go much deeper into widespread usage, especially showing _how_ the features are used, including core RSS features and the "iTunes" namespace.
For example, this will finally document how apps use and handle fallbacks with <itunes:summary>, <content:encoded>, and <description>. And also what HTML formatting is supported in each!

I got back to working on https://canipodcast.com, and it's taking a lot longer than I expected to enter the data—nearly 2 hours just for Apple Podcasts!
But that's because I'm being thorough and also refining the data structure in the process. Plus, I need to document usage notes and some other things that Apple doesn't disclose or explain well. For example, how <itunes:title> is used.
When I have the data structured, I'll invite others to help contribute for apps, features, and tools.

1. I encode at 64 kbps mono. Podhome re-encoded _up_ to 128 kbps mono.
2. Screenshot shows original tags on top, Podhome's version on bottom. (It also stripped the "Lyrics" tag. Yes, I understand that it _replaced_ my title and album according to CMS data, and that's fine.)
4. No, I mean that it doesn't use the <title>, <itunes:title> and episode numbers in the compatible way, and it doesn't allow me to customize. So it's just wasting space by duplicating title to itunes:title.

I noticed an unforeseen potential edge case. How should the tag be treated if it includes only href and it's pointing to a video?
It can't then be assumed to be 1:1 aspect ratio, and it probably shouldn't be assumed to be the cover art.
So maybe the solution is to say that href-only should be _only_ for 1:1 images. If the href is to _anything_ other than a 1:1 image (even if it's a 1:1 video), that it should use additional attributes.

@nprofile…h82d Why only a width? That tells nothing conclusive about an image. 4,320 could be landscape, square, or portrait.
Weren't we discussing an aspect ratio indicator instead of a single dimension?

@nprofile…xs2w Look at your traffic logs for patterns you can block with a free Cloudflare rule.
Last year, one of my sites was getting hit hard with DDOS attacks. I looked at the access logs and noticed most of the attacks were coming from IPs in a particular country, but I knew the attack could just switch sources. Then I realized all the attacks were using HTTP/1.1, so I put in a Cloudflare rule to challenge 1.1 traffic and but HTTP/2 traffic through.
That killed the attack.

Please allow me to vent.
The Lightning and Alby hub stuff is so complicated, confusing, and even misleading that I feel like we should just burn the whole current "value" implementation to the ground and start over from scratch.
In its current state, it will be years before the average podcaster—let alone podcast consumer!—will be able to handle this stuff.

@nprofile…g5pf Yeah, I finally found the problem. My Podcast Namespace hack plugin seems to have a compatibility problem now, so it's generating errors in my feed.

BTW, although I'm in dark mode, the site has a switch: light, dark, or system.

I've been very vocal about my dislike for some of our names or branding elements, but I don't let that stop me from working with others or supporting the features anyway.
