Incremental Font Transfer has been published by the Web Fonts Working Group as a Working Draft.
Incremental Font Transfer defines a method to incrementally transfer fonts from server to client. Incremental transfer allows clients to load only the portions of the font they actually need which speeds up font loads and reduces data transfer needed to load the fonts. A font can be loaded over multiple requests where each request incrementally adds additional data.

At our recent AC meeting in Hiroshima, Japan 🇯🇵 Sophia Wu (Ant Group) spoke on "Fighting the deepfake threats."
Generative AI has made it much easier and cheaper to create new content but raises trust concerns due to deepfake attacks. Using AI, fraudsters can craft fake videos from victims' images, enabling identity fraud. In her talk, Wu called for collaboration to tackle #deepfake threats with new complementary Web standards.

At our recent AC meeting in Hiroshima, Japan 🇯🇵 Matthew Atkinson (Samsung) presented "Exploring making site navigation more accessible, with "well-known destinations."
Atkinson spoke on a proposal of the WAI-Adapt Task Force on making navigation more accessible. It suggests a standard way for a website to list its popular pages, aiding user agents in automatic discovery.

The HTML WG has published a Working Draft of HTML Ruby Markup Extensions.
Ruby, a form of interlinear annotation, are short runs of text alongside the base text. They are typically used in East Asian documents to indicate pronunciation or to provide a short annotation. This specification revises and extends the markup model established by HTML to express ruby.

At our Hiroshima, Japan 🇯🇵 AC meeting Dr. Naoshi Hirata spoke about how the Internet and Web are vital in emergencies, enabling seamless collaboration and information sharing.
Dr. Hirata, of the University of Tokyo, presented: "distributed disaster management data" using a case study for the Noto peninsula earthquake that struck Japan on January 1, 2024.
