It's the time of year where crackles of sulphur crested #cockatoos go through plane trees and liquidambars, eating the seed pods.
They're messy eaters, leaving a huge amount of green detritus as they work their way from tree to tree stripping seeds and forcing them to the ground to be eaten by other members of the crackle, working their way along from tree to tree.

The idea is that you pull the lever periodically (6 monthly?) and release any air that's built up - as that air pressure can build up in a HWS and cause explosions. Of course, the air release is meant to happen automatically if pressure is exceeded. (In your case, the valve has probably failed and it may be releasing below the rated pressure).
Assuming a sustained (1min+) valve release doesn't fix/reduce (in which case go for 2 mins!) the issue, then if I was you, I'd see if you can find a mechanism to hold the lever in place so it doesn't bubble away, and then get a plumber to replace the valve when it's reasonable to do so. If you've got sufficient hot water, probably avoid running the unit overnight.
It's a pretty standard plumbing job for anyone who works with hot water systems, so I'd hope you can get out of it for $300-$400 (including the new valve and 30mins labour).

You're playing with the temperature and pressure relief valve. It's a safety system, you're meant to pull the trigger on it every few months (releasing air in the top valve and water out of a waste pipe.)
They're meant to be replaced periodically (2-5 years depending on water hardness). My guess based on the way you're stopping the noise - the valve needs replacing.

King Parrott.
Had seeds out to feed birds last weekend at the house I was staying at. Whilst a variety of birds ate them, when the pair of King Parrotts turned up, all the other birds (Rosella's, Sulphur Crested Cockatoos) gave up and let them eat first.

Good morning all, but especially to the builders who parked their truck, diesel engine running outside my window at 6am and had full volume hands-free conversations (*) because council laws don't permit them to make building works related noise till 7am.
(* Nah, I didn't go to the footy on the weekend, but how about Carlton? I disagree about Voss but agree with you that the players need a rocket. Yeah, it's been cold, but decent sun recently, no, I don't have plans for the wet weather days coming up where you won't have to work).

Is the delayed blooming part of self preservation?
Not sure if they're pollinated by insects, but if they are, there's only so many insects around, so the more varied the genetic stock is in terms of flowering period, the better the pollination rate and survival of the species?
