All of this nonsense about getting kids off social media is really just a cover for not legislating the social media companies to make the spaces safe for everyone.
They of course, don't want that as it would affect profits.
Explain again how profits are more important to a society than safe spaces?

When I sign up for being on a TestFlight for an app, I understand that the deal is I have to expect bugs, strange behaviour, and mess with the interface to help the developer make the best app.
I really quite enjoy doing it.
Today's the first day I've come to regret it. 100% data loss within an app.
I've *never* seen that happen before.
Fortunately, I have most of the data backed up elsewhere. Nothing *important* has been lost, just … inconvenient.

Tuesday #Workout:
11 minutes of yoga for runners.
20 minutes of lower-body strength training.
11.2 KM of #Running (-16°C, -27 windchill, 60% humidity, and 28 KM/H wind).
Good workouts, a predictably chilly run (light #IceBeard!), even met a very good dog who saw me coming and sat by its owner, waiting for me to pass.
Also saw something I've *never* seen before: a small flock of chickadees gathered around a dead squirrel, pulling it apart.😳
Have @nprofile…58cd running on my second screen as I work.

Good workouts, legs really felt the strength workout. The run was great. Nice and cool out, some excellent #IceBeard formed, saw another runner with it too and we waved at each other.

For runners:
Why did you start #running?
I started pretty much by accident - the story's here: https://leroux.ca/the-serendipitous-runner/
TLDR: I was a distance walker, met up with friend who suggested I start running with her, and 19,600KM+ later, here I am.
I've always been fascinated by the stories of how people have started running, and it occurred to me to ask generally here.

Tuesday #Workout:
11 minutes of yoga for runners.
10 minutes of strength training.
10 minutes of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training).
210 seconds of plank.
15.3 KM of #Running (3°C, 100% humidity, and 14 km/hr wind).
Moved plank to after the workouts to make it easier to do them with @nprofile…ejjl. Good run, got rained on for the last 4 KMs or so.
It's interesting seeing the progression over time (thanks, spreadsheet), with the slow but steady approach towards my current goal. It's still so hard.

16.2 KM of #Running (0°C, -2°C Windchill, 86% humidity, and 6 km/hr wind).
Pretty good workouts and run for the start of the week. Pleased the KMs are coming up smoothly so far. May opt to dial it back a bit compared to last week, just in case. We'll see as it's really great running weather.

Friday #Workout:
210 seconds of plank.
22 mins of yoga for runners.
23.28 KM of #Running (Light rain, 0°C, 100% humidity, & 17 km/h wind)
Plank & double-yoga was good (figured I could use some extra stretching).
Started in the cold rain and started the run, puttered along the Voyageurs pathway to the Chief William Commanda Bridge to discover that the city had closed it again (snow!), so doubled back, over Chaudiere bridge, and gleefully ran in the rain. So very tired at the end, though.

10 minutes of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training).
14.09 KM of #Running (-13°C, -20°C windchill, 83% humidity, and 11 km/hr wind).
Good workouts. Looked at the windchill for a looong time before heading out. Decided I was #TeamsShorts because it's April. Turns out it was fine. 🤔
Run itself was good, even with the snow and ice everywhere. …and it will probably be gone by Saturday. 🤣

One of the really great things about the #mastodon #running community is waking up on the weekend and seeing photos from all of the people who have done their runs scattered across this planet. There are so many beautiful places, and it’s really important to keep that in mind in times like this.

2025-04-04 16:15:12 UTC

Friday #Workout:
274 seconds of plank.
11 minutes of yoga for runners.
23 KM of #Running (1°C, 73% humidity, and 16 km/hr wind).
Slept pretty well, and thought I’d see about going a bit further. Was a bit of a slog, but I rewarded myself with the longest run since November 2023, so I'm quite pleased with myself.
I know getting back to my old five halfs a week is still a (long) while away, I'm feeling pretty optimistic. Now to dial back my enthusiasm a bit so I don't damage bits again. 🤣

22 minutes of yoga for runners (2x11 minutes).
17.7 KM of #Running (-7°C, -12°C windchill, 69% humidity, and 13 km/hr wind).
Extra plank, double yoga, long run day. Was aiming for further, but someone forgot to replace his band-aids. Legs are still a bit sore, but I'll be taking the weekend very light with the coming ice storm (and will dig out my ice-cleats).
But, it's Friday!

11 mins of yoga for runners.
10 mins of strength training.
15.4 KM of #Running (-6°C, -10°C windchill, 100% humidity, and 8 km/hr wind).
Plank was tough this morning; abs were mad at me from yesterday’s go of it after the vacation.
Run was great; changed route up due to Rideau River flooding, and was unintentionally faster than my goal (7:00/km), though I was slowing down after 12 KMs. Keeping an eye on my HR is … exhausting until I can run coat-free.

@nprofile…args Lots of interesting possibilities there; ejection from a galaxy seems to require close passage to super-massive black holes; not an ideal location for life, but if it happened early enough, life could (re)develop? Some of these rogue stars are moving at crazy speeds, hundreds of KMs/second, so time dilation effects would show. The civilization would be limited to their solar system too. 🤔

Nine thousand, eight hundred, and sixty-two days ago (27 years {3^3}), I married my best friend, @nprofile…ejjl.
I've been fortunate to spend more than half my life with someone who has made me a better person, and I wouldn't change a thing.
We're both not “normal" in any sense, and so fortunate to have found each other.
It was a pretty great day - we got married at Winterlude (#Ottawa's winter festival), by a German ice castle, and spent an afternoon playing pool with family & friends.

11 minutes of yoga for runners.
10 minutes of HIIT.
5.2 KM of #Running (-18°C, -27°C windchill, 59% humidity, and 16 km/hr wind)
Workouts were fine. Realized while I was putting my shoes on that they were still wet from yesterday because someone (that would be me) forgot to put them by heat where they'd dry.
I went out with a few options, and it was *quickly* clear that wet feet in these temperatures was a rather bad idea, so I headed home. Rest day!

Wednesday #Workout:
200 seconds of plank.
11 minutes of yoga for runners.
10 minutes of strength training.
10 minutes of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training).
12.3 KM of #Running (-10°C, -19°C windchill, 77% humidity, and 26 km/hr wind).
Good workouts and the run was good. Windchill was too low for shorts, but I had a good time of it.

Does anyone know of a good #Mastodon/ #Fediverse explainer video that isn’t for Linux users that @nprofile…ejjl can share on Facebook for her non-tech-savvy friends?

@nprofile…asy0 If the storage problem is really going to drive you bonkers, then I think you’ve already made the decision. 🤣
There are some tax advantages (we’re both in 🇨🇦) to buying a computer in the last days of the year, so that’s worth considering.
Don’t forget to check the Apple refurb store- same warranty, less expensive.
I lease my machines, which is also handy, by making hardware upgrades regular.

@nprofile…asy0 How do you stop the audio from auto playing? It over-rides the ring/silent switch!

@nprofile…xk9j Kind of strange to hit a captcha *after* I've entered my CC information to buy the app. ApplePay would be nice.

@nprofile…args I haven't completely pried myself off Audible, but I’ve started to. I pick up audiobooks from libro.fm (lots of audiobooks in non-DRM formats). I’ve also started converting my existing Audible books to AAC with https://www.ondesoft.com/audiobook_converter/ (doesn't work on anything you can't download).

I don’t know when this feature showed up in @npub1rky…0xq2, but I noticed it today - the ability to add a user to a list and hide them from the main timeline, cutting down on duplicate posts! 🎉

@npub1grx…uxfe Fight with the owner of the service? As if we can change his mind as he slides deeper down the conspiracy-theory slide. We can't magically recapture the site from him using our wit.
