both are useful
the block hash proves knowledge of some information that couldn't have been available before (same as using a newspaper headline, for example), so it puts a >= bound on the timestamp
OTS stamping can be used to prove that information already existed at a certain time (by putting it in a merkle tree that will be published in a block), so puts a <= bound on the timestamp
together these can "box in" the timestamp of the event

haha same, i have tons of old gmail accounts, and a whole trail of social media and other internet service accounts, i can't get into anymore
nor would i even want to, i'm fine with old stuff being forgotten, usually
every long-running internet service automatically turns into a museum, or even mausoleum, at some point
the implicit assumption that "the internet" will store your data forever might have made sense in the 90's when things were new (there just wasn't so much), data storage devices were growing exponentially, and files were much smaller (mostly text)
but now that storage costs aren't decreasing that much anymore, and files grow ever larger (so much video and many-megapixel camera images), it's different
nostr doesn't actually solve this problem 😀 , data retention policy is up to the individual relay admins, though for text notes it's not a big deal
the media hosting services on the other hand... nostr.build reminds me of imgur and similar free image hosting services used in the forum days, it doesn't seem a sustainable model

Is there really no way to provide inbound liquidity to a lightning node on AlbyHub, directly from a Core Lightning node? Are Alby users always dependent on LSPs for this?
Their guide ( https://guides.getalby.com/user-guide/v/alby-account-and-browser-extension/alby-hub/node/increase-receiving-capacity ) doesn't list it as option.
We already know that the "lightning node" has no external address so there is no way to directly open a connection to it to fund a channel. But maybe an outward connection can work the other way around somehow. Or emulate a LSP.
Does anyone know the details here?

yes, including the hash has another advantage as well: the data can be mirrored somewhere else, so that when the original media server goes down, it can be retrieved from somewhere else and still be verified
this is great for logos, emojis and such, any data should have a virtually infinite lifetime
that said, that kind of mirroring shouldn't happen without the author's consent, and for more privacy-sensitive/temporary images it can be better to not include a hash, exactly to prevent this and even have a degree of plausible deniability

the usual CS textbooky approach would be to start with something like Minix, or some small microkernels such as seL4
other "mini operating systems" are bootloaders like GRUB and u-boot
then combine it with some more general Operating Systems book that explains the fundamentals (i know no recent ones, sorry, that's too long ago for me)
but don't be too intimidated by Linux, it's not all very complex code, and it's fairly well documented, though there *is* a lot of it

Yes would recommend reading the other books. The second book, Authority, is kind of odd in that it's more about the agency investigating the area X phenomenon than area X itself. The third, Acceptance, returns to the weirdness of the area itself and some of the character's history comes together, and i found the best of the series.
Ligotti is another interesting author. Kind of a modern Lovecraft, his stories are scary but mostly in a philosophical way So depressive though 😅

maybe ? i'm personally skeptical of use of AI for technical documentation. It primarily needs to be precise, not verbose and flowery. Whereas the models often hallucinate things, from entire functions to subtleties like data types, field names, constraints on use. Anything a LLM would come up with would have to be reviewed with a dust comb. That's so much work that the people reviewing might as well write the documentation in the first place, and have a bit more confidence in it.

but i agree, Iain likes to go over the top, it's not as down-to-earth as the other two mentioned, more like space opera in a vaguely anarchistic setting

+1 for kobo, the e-ink screens are great, and side-loading epubs and other formats is super easy in any OS (computer sees them as a disk), also installing custom firmware on them is possible (if you're into that), i've always really liked mine
one thing to keep in mind is that none of the e-ink readers are great with PDFs (don't know if that changed with the latest ones but i'd be surprised) due to lack of text reflow, so if you mostly want to read PDFs you're better off with a tablet
