If you are over 60, you are slap bang in the segment of the population most in favour of the royals, most for the union to continue forevermore, most for Brexit, and today the biggest supporters of Nigel Farage and Reform. Since Donald Trump decided to attack Iran, the cost of diesel has risen by over 40 pence per litre, or around 30%. The World economy is in big trouble, while innocent people are being killed in Iran for no apparent reason.

The day that Donald Trump dies, the world will breathe a collective sigh of relief, yet that one death in itself won't fix what is wrong with the world. Israel will still enjoy support from the US, no matter how many people they murder. Russia will still occupy much of Ukraine. Labour lost a byelection last night in Manchester. Maybe no surprise for the unpopular party of government, but the real point of interest was in who else lost and who won. The seat was taken by the Greens, well ahead of Reform and with Labour in third. Those in the press who have been pushing Reform with all they have must be so disappointed. Gives hope that maybe, just maybe, people can see through Reform's racism and that Nigel Farage will never become Prime Minister.

Lisa Nandy is a Labour politician famous for saying Scottish Independence supporters should be treated in the same violent way as the Spanish authorities reacted to Catalan separatists. He tells us that Russia is wrong to invade Ukraine, that Israel has the right to defend itself when killing thousands of innocent Palestinians, that Greenland and Denmark can decide their own future, regarding the US kidnapping the Venezuelan president, that he needs to establish the facts and he says he will never allow the Scottish people the choice to break free from London rule.

Cold weather payments not been cut because of immigration. The government are not attacking the disabled because of the working poor. It not the fault of those in poverty that food and energy bills are rising.

An example of this absurdity is with Labour. Go to the Scottish Labour website. There is section where they claim you should join "Scottish Labour". Yet click on the link to join and you are taken to UK Labour site with grinning photo of Sir Keir Starmer. Labour are an English Party.

I completely agree with comment about the over 55's. Just before Covid I lost my job. During this time I slipped over the age of 55 and suddenly it seemed impossible to find a job. I was later told by someone who worked in HR that big companies told agencies not to pass on CVs for folk who were over 55 as these were rejected out of hand. I therefore retired a few years earlier than I wanted to. Instead of blaming older workers why not look at Brexit for manpower shortages?

Trump's visit to Scotland is going to be messy. We didn't invite him and we don't want him here. There is going to be widespread and very visible protest in full view of the World's press. One of the great claims made from the time of Thatcher was that selling off state assets would result in more competition and would give consumer's more choice with cheaper and better service. How has that worked out? Has selling water companies or deregulation of buses make the service any better? Has ability to switch bank accounts or changing electricity or phone suppliers led to cheaper bills or a better service? A really helpful few posts from a Junior Doctor who is paid £20 an hour explaining her pay and conditions.
In all of this we should remember that since 2008 pay for junior doctors has fallen by 20.8%. Over the same period from 2008 to 2025, the basic salary of MPs climbed from £63,291 to £93,904, an increase of 32.6%. Not including all their expenses.
Seems to me that they worth way more than 20 quid an hour.

The lack of vision in politics, I believe, is a huge reason why for much of my life, no matter if it a Labour or Tory Government in power, we feel worse off. Things keep getting worse. One government does something, the next tinkers with the idea. Good ideas are very thin on the ground. All of this in what is supposedly the 5th or 6th richest country on the planet. A Labour Government which would rather attack the disabled than tax the rich. They don't seem to care about all the distress they have caused to people from whom life has taken so much. Is the end for the Labour Party which has lost sight of its purpose and who it stands for?

The Labour Prime Minister has come up with a grand plan to try and win over rebel MPs threatening to derail his attack on the disabled. His solution? A plan that people already on disability benefits will get a better deal than anyone who becomes disabled and needs support in the future. There is no mention about what happens when those receiving PIP get re-assessed. If Labour rebels fall for this, it is another nail in Labour's coffin. Is there any point in the Labour Party?

We are all far far closer to being disabled and in poverty than we are to being billionaires. Think on this when very wealthy politicians support the wishes of billionaires when attacking those in poverty and the disabled rather than those who live their lives in luxury. Especially think about these things before you cast your vote.

Very interesting watching all the threats towards Labour MPs who oppose cuts for the disabled. Worth pointing out that if approximately 100 MPs rebel this still leaves approx 300 Labour MPs who seem to think it is a good idea to attack the disabled.
Labour truly have lost their way.

This is an old cartoon which originally appeared in a Danish newspaper. The Israeli ambassador in Denmark threw toys out of the pram demanding cartoon be removed with an apology.
I don't get what it is about the Israeli state. Why are they so precious? Someone with much more talent than I have should draw another frame to this cartoon where the man on the floor is in a shell hole and a succession of rich western guests bring the dog expensive presents.

Independence support almost reaches 60% if Scotland were to ditch the monarchy. It was always assumed that attaching question of monarchy to question of independence would lose support but it turns out that the opposite is true. I'd be very happy to live in an independent Scottish Republic.

UK politics has reached the pinnacle where Labour stand for freezing pensioners and for childhood poverty while the main party of opposition think that fines for partying while bereaved families couldn't attend funerals was 'overblown'. Both parties stand for Brexit, for allowing the Israeli Government to do as they please and hate immigrants.
What future for those of us disgusted by the British establishment as represented by Labour and the Tories? I hope I live to see the UK break apart.

The UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer seems to have a very conflicted sense of his roots. Remember him endlessly telling us his father was a tool maker to make it seem he came from working class background? How does this square with all the expensive clothes and glasses he takes to try and change his image? He has even used houses of people even more wealthy than he is to give a better backdrop for speeches and interviews.
Starmer is not impressing me one bit.

Have you noticed that whenever we discuss the benefits of independence, some joker pops out of woodwork to ask about currency, borders and so on. The same arguments we heard countless times over the past 10 years and which despite that these been answered ad infinitum, keep being asked.
Such arguments are not part of normal debate. This tactic is designed to endlessly kick independence into long grass and retain London rule forever more.

I had a look and found that you would have to earn less than £218.15 a week to be eligible for pension credit (am guessing that the cold weather payment will use the same sums - if this not correct maybe someone could help out here). The full state pension is only £221.20 a week. Seems to me that the means testing statement is a red herring as limits are set very low.

If it wasn't clear to everyone before, yesterday's vote to remove cold weather payments from more than 11 million pensioners must ram it home. We have the Tory Party and we have the Labour Party. Both are right wing. Neither care about policies which kill people at the bottom of the heap.

Labour groupies out in force today. Folk who see nothing wrong with removing cold weather payments for pensioners and seem happy that thousands will die. It brings into sharp relief what committed supporters of any political party or point of view will put up with to support their side and rubbish the other side. Logic, rational thinking and reasoned debate are not required for groupies. How hard is it to admit that your side make mistakes and sometimes the other side have good ideas.

A fabulous work by Angus Olsen which sums up the reality of life for many children who have cancer. Unable to go outside due to pain or the risk of infection and aware that their end is coming while other children get on with living. Imagine the thoughts in a child's head going through this. I lost my own daughter to cancer 9 years ago and the pain and memories never go away. Each September, the Childhood Cancer Community comes together to try and raise awareness.

An interesting story about people who own second homes in Wales deciding to sell up after councils were allowed to increase taxes designed to make it easier for people to afford houses in the place they grow up.

Recently a friend on artist residency recommended a book The Zen of Creativity by John Daido Loori. Am not at all religious or spiritual and am quite outspoken and am politically angry so was surprised at how interesting this was. One section mentions the still point - only the now exists, don't worry about the past or what is to come, forget those who annoy you or the politics of the day. Instead try to listen without analysing what we hear. Very interesting read if anyone interested.

Just think, if Scotland was independent we could make moves to rejoin the EU, we could get rid of nuclear warheads from the Clyde, we could ban folk like Tommy Robinson from visiting Scotland, we could decide for ourselves if we wanted austerity and if we prefer more tax breaks for the rich. These things and much much more would be up to us.
Sadly too many are stuck on idea that our only choice is London rule with never ending game of Tory/Labour pass the parcel.
Scotland can do so much better.
