I think that is what I love most, that people develop their own blends over time. The more unique the mix, the more my brain engages to puzzle it out.
And I'm so sorry you were ever ashamed of your accent (it sounds like that's very much past tense, happily). I know precisely how that can mark people out as different that others might use for mockery or bullying. Foreign accents are like new colours or flavours, always enriching. As I said my Fiancee is Cajun and just listening to her accent lights me up inside.
