I've also got a hiatus hernia. Can be so painful! I have to take small sips of water with food, or it gets stuck. Holding my arms above my head and bumping my heels up and down helps, strangely enough.

Yes. Exactly. It's 50 years since the practice of sorting garbage for recycling became common, and for some reason that's beyond human comprehension, recycling is not yet a public utility like water and sewerage.
When told that X packaging material "cannot" be recycled, the average punter believes it (!!!) when what it really means is "We don't want to spend the capital for the equipment that could recycle it" or some other operational reason that could be easily overcome if the recycling service was state owned.
Some well-meaning people even *post* recyclables like plastic bottle tops to destinations many hundreds of kms away. Yes, really! The manufacturers get free materials, with the freight paid for by the donors. Is "suckers" too harsh a word? .
Demand that your government makes sorting and recycling of "all" waste a state- owned public utility.

Mine learned to open the sliding door by pushing on the metal door frame. 3 generations of cats have done this.
They have a cat door now, which is set in a panel that fits in the sliding door track. They will still stand outside and miaow for me to let them in. Life's no fun if you're not controlling the human.

I was in the Girl Guides about 60 years ago. The motto was "Be Prepared". A pocket knife clipped to a belt was part of our uniform. Our ties doubled as triangular bandages. We learned to erect a shelter with sticks and rope and cook a meal over a camp fire.
Doesn't look so silly now.

Yes, it's a dilemma. Trump hasn't yet tested whether the military/national guard will obey any orders from Trump that involve illegal actions against US citizens. Some overthrows of authoritarian regimes have happened when the military or police refused to fire on citizens, eg the fall of the Berlin wall and overthrow of the Marcos regime.
