The surface area increase and tiny libraries are the things I'm arguing against, so it sounds like we agree on that part. My preference is for a rich standard library, comprehensive add-on libraries, and programs that carefully consider the impacts of adding new dependencies. I think the Python ecosystem excels in these areas, and wish Rust ecosystem would improve on them.
