I just had one of my strangeness with strangers moments in the grocery store. A guy got in front of my shopping cart and grabbed it to stop me. I was immediately nervous. His whole neck was tattooed, he had a huge scar that ran from the corner of his mouth to his ear on one side of his face, that stout prison weightroom type of build, intense stare, damn near a foot taller than me. He said "How are you doing? "
In the back of my mind, I was thinking this guy was either going to ask me for money, ask me out on a date, or possibly maybe mug me in the cheese aisle 😅 I reluctantly replied, "good, and you?"
He said, "good. This July weather. It's hot. How are you wearing all black?" I said I was just used to it.
He went on to tell me that he is moving to Philadelphia in August, to stay with his brother (who's girlfriend just had a baby). He said the city will be very hot because it is radiating heat. I asked if he had ever lived there before. He said yes and that he misses it. I told him that I hope it goes well. He said thanks, told me to have a good evening, let go of my cart, and walked off.

It’s a sad day on the homestead. This was a beautiful mature Apple tree. We’ve made cider, pies, applesauce, one of my favorite activities has always been kicking fallen apples down the drive & watching the dogs run after them. Yesterday we had a storm & he decided he’d had enough & laid down.

Last winter I moved into this office. Now we're moving out. Feels like I've lived in within these 4 walls, working 10-12 hours a day untill late in de night after everyone had left the building. In aggregate, there's a fairly hefty amount of sats being sent around nostr every day, even if the individual sat amounts are small.
Certain parties are disappointed that the value that people voluntarily give to shitposts is marginal because they expected a free and open, decentralized and sovereign system to behave like a permissioned, closed, centrally controlled system.
Platforms have a captive audience they can farm for attention, and that's why large sums of money flow through them. There is no such attention farming capability on nostr. But what I think happened was that people saw how people are manipulated to behave on platforms and assumed that was normal, organic behavior, and that people would behave the same on nostr. I think we proved that isn't the case pretty definitely at this point.
I don't think nostr is by any measure a failure. I think people just had the wrong ideas and expectations about it. Let them wash out, and the ecosystem will adjust.

At the end of today I will not have had any alcohol. 28 days is standard for forming new habits and getting rid of old habits.
I figure I can hit 4 goals within 10 days with this:
1. 28 days no alcohol
2. One full month (June) no alcohol
3. 33 days (because it’s the magic number) no alcohol
4. 40 days and 40 nights no alcohol (because it would be “biblical” so why not?)

Good inbox/read relays enable their users to shield themselves from association with spam and vulgar replies. No one is censored, as those types of replies can be made at many other locations, and anyone can access those locations to read them if they want. WoT, mutes, and reports can be an active defense for the individual while user-respecting inbox relays can passively enhance the reader experience for all parties. Neither approach is perfect alone. A more-perfect client would enable any user to choose from which source they are choosing to read replies, while also equipping them with the tools to clean up their own experience when necessary.
