Yeah, it's slow, on first use. I cache everything, rather than just downloading it all, over and over. That saves bandwidth, but it's initially slower. You also have to download each page, for the first time, when you load it.
Most people on here have amazing Internet connections, I guess. Or everyone who didn't have one, is already gone.
