Last Notes
I'd prefer plain notes to be be plain notes. If I wanted pretty formatting I'd go to a web page. Or click on a longform note.
That looks like I'm being yelled at, and is unnecessarily attention grabbing, especially when I'm quickly scrolling through notes from my followers.
Everyone is different tho. That's the beauty of Nostr. You can use Amethyst if you want that flexibility. Everyone else will just see asterisks and be more than happy.
Of course. And people can and will interpret them in whatever way they want. That's totally their prerogative.
And doing so will fragment the ecosystem.
There's a few people I've seen posting longform markdown content as kind 1, and I just think, why? We have kind 30023 notes which are designed for this exact purpose. And they're widely supported and work really well.
It's up to them tho.
That's the beauty of an opensource protocol. The consensus will win out eventually.
Kind 1 notes are defined in NIP-10:
https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/10.md
Where it specifically states:
Markup languages such as markdown and HTML SHOULD NOT be used.
That's what kind 30023 events are for.
You live in the greatest period of human history so far. Don't forget it!
I have a draft written. Tried to get talk going on the mailing list to eventually get a BIP number but I believe they filtered it because it's not technical discussion.
this makes sense
#nevent1q…qcr0
i can get down with this. wen BIP?
nope. just zapped his npub.

What do you mean? Is it like an LNbits offline extension?
While everyone is complaining about Nostr this and Bitcoin that, @npub10xv…g437 / @npub1nkf…2svu and I are busy building.
Real proof of work isn't arguing on the timeline - it's creating things that make life better for people and easier for merchants.
History is written by the builders.
You can spend your time complaining, or you can spend it creating.
Turns out, you can just build stuff.

One hell of a leap! This is the good work. What an honor my man!!!!
We did something special this morning...
The first known "Zap Out" of a real physical product sold exclusively over Nostr and settled entirely on Bitcoin rails.
It wasn't a mock checkout. It was a real merchant controlled npub, a real product, a real buyer controlled npub, and real sats.
We worked through loading states.
We hit errors.
We found a bug.
We fixed it.
And @nprofile…gjwf , the freedom tech pioneer that he is, stuck with me until we got it done.
Here's what happened:
⚡ @nprofile…gjwf published a product for sale on Nostr.
⚡ I discovered it through Conduit.
⚡ I assembled a cart client-side.
⚡ A Lightning invoice was generated through the merchant's zap endpoint.
⚡ I paid it.
⚡ The merchant did not need to be online, logged in, or present at checkout.
The merchant published sellable state once... the buyer completed the purchase later.
No marketplace custody.
No payment processor in the middle.
No platform holding funds.
Just Nostr for identity, discovery, and commerce. Lightning for settlement.
A completely asynchronous, peer-to-peer checkout flow... this is what open protocol commerce looks like.
One small step for @nprofile…gjwf. One giant leap for freedom tech. 🧡⚡

Bruh, they are all crazy. You gotta find the specific flavour of crazy you can put up with, and she doesn't seem to be it :D
Glad you found out before you invested too much time & energy...
I saw this book advertised by a stationary store and was interested in it. May have to pick one up!
Beyond this case-pair intuition, using β to represent sats has two big advantages over all the other proposals I've seen:
- Availability: β has shipped in Unicode since 1.0.0 in 1991. It renders in essentially every general-purpose font (including monospace), and is reachable through standard input methods. No new glyph design or OS support needed.
- No collissions: Doesn't collide with the principal symbol of any active national currency.

If you have not tried out https://nostrord.com your really missing out on the nostr groups.
There are a bunch of other apps that also support groups but nostrord is the first one I've found I can keep open in the background on the browser can get notifications of messages in the groups I care about
I'm just going to take this as confirmation that Big Macs aren't made from actual ground beef. 😉
It is correct. Inflation is the part of the design. The issue is that it was rapidly rising in the past 5 years.

thanks i'll check that out and see what's up. havent used or tested with ditto.
yea man, it was one of the main reasons i built it. i wanted teh full PWA experience for all the cool shit everyone is building. NIP-44 v3 coming out soon as well so you'll see the scope of any encrypted events you sign
Many monero bros have gfs, its just that those guys are all drug dealers 🤣

iOS testflight pretty smooth. Now I can use browser apps on iphone. Stoked
Can we get a @nprofile…89r8 package for this?
Now that the outbox model is more popular, it makes more sense than ever to host your own relay - now clients will actually read from it.
And, not biased of course, the best personal relay is HAVEN
Get a DM relay, inbox/outbox, personal blossom server and more in one simple package

...shoot you a DM haha
Don’t you come in here with some nuanced shit being all reasonable and shit, shit.
It's a little more complicated on this front gents. I would not want to work on this building in the 1930s vs. today. There are issues today with housing/healthcare/childcare/general cost of living for sure, but it's not as strong as the productivity argument (and there's nuances there too... you would rather be in a modern building trust me).

“The Empire State Building was built in 13 months, nearly 100 years ago. Today, you couldn’t get the permit in 13 months.”
I heard somebody (Jeff Booth?) point this out on a podcast yesterday. It perfectly summarizes our predicament in the West today.

Bitcoin is a trap.
Once it hooks you, you can't get enough of it.
You rush to get as much as you can. You sacrifice parts of your life to stack sats because bitcoin is the way off the fiat hamster wheel.
One day bitcoin will pump to oblivion and change your life. If you sell now, you'll miss it and you'll regret it forever because you KNEW it would.
Congratulations, you just trapped yourself.
Bitcoin taught you that the fiat system was stealing your time and your money. Then you handed your time over to waiting on a price chart?
You need bitcoin to get off the fiat hamster wheel, but bitcoin can't do that for you.
Betting on Bitcoin has to still mean betting on yourself.
Its sweet that you have a plan for the afterlife.
NOSTR is gaining over 1000 users / day. https://npub.world/stats
