I love how all these articles after the giant data breach are like "tips for keeping your data secure: don't keep your social security card in your wallet, don't shop online at questionable retailers...." Etc like *that's* what caused this data breach and not *merely existing* in this late-stage-capitalism distopia.
Strangely, *holding corporations accountable for unnecessary data collection and lax security* is suspiciously absent from the list of things to help.

Yeah it seems like answering the question of "if I wanted to self host, using an allowlist, what would be the best way of determining members of such a list beyond just my direct follows/followers" is hard and might just be a try and see iteration.

Today's been one of those days that makes me dislike technology just a bit more

Is there a #fediverse tool that displays the federation graph of a particular instance? Or, given a list of instances I'm interested in, verify that some other instance federates with them?

If you piped it through minimodem or some other fsk utility, it'll work, but cassette tape fidelity will probably limit your encoding options.
If you're ok with 300baud Bell 102 encoding, it will absolutely work; I've done this to test acoustic couplers

Really glad we have a continuous radon monitor; the GFI on the exhaust fan tripped and I didn't notice for a few hours until I got a notification from the monitor the levels were increasing.
Also, if you live in a high radon area you really should at least do periodic testing even if previous tests have come back good. A health physicist once equated having elevated radon levels to smoking a cigarette daily for each pCi/L

Was in a meeting earlier with a recent software engineering grad who hadn't heard about the Therac-25. I recently saw another toot about this and how I guess it's not a common case study or reference anymore?
Seriously, if you write software, you should be aware of this.
