Sorry, here comes a generalization about a country, but this is such an American take. "If I don't care, "no one" cares". Tell that to the millions of kids going to ballet classes.
There are a lot of things I am not interested in doing, including watching anything Kardashian, but I have never called for an "end" to them.

So Andrew has been arrested. Interesting that he is in trouble for sharing corporate information and not for his abuse of young girls.
Les Wexnercwas never even spoken to by the FBI even though he was alleged to have committed crimes against women.
If the victims want justice, it is becoming clear that the only way to achieve that is to report on their business related crime. You might actually get some results. Not guaranteed.

Just doing a little dumpster dive into the files and my initial impression is that there's a whole lot of people who continued to support him after his initial conviction and many of them laughed about it.
2nd impression is that the DOJ has done a piss poor job of reviewing and redacting information. Why would they redact Epstein's name but leave his email that has been identified as his email elsewhere in the files?
And then there's 25 redactions on a page, but you can still find the name. In one case the name is redacted on the file, but the name is there in the search description. It really is amateur time.

There’s been a movement in Canadian academia to get rid of the research funding agencies and return to letting the boys clubs within institutions to decide who gets funding. Why have transparency and merit when you can have secret hand signals and a network to protect your failings?

I'm a rule follower. I have always been a rule follower. When I was a kid, I was entered into a show where moms made matching outfits for their daughters and their dolls. We were told to follow the white lines around a tennis court so that everyone could see us. I took it literally. I walked that line like a tightrope, heel to toe, never stepping off the line and creating havoc behind me as the other kids piled up in a traffic jam.
I'm the opposite of most people I know. I still read instructions before assembling anything or plugging in anything new.
I feel very fortunate that I was able to translate that into a career and I think it is probably the skill most people value me for - knowing the rules and how to work ethically and effectively within those walls.
But even I know when rules should be abandoned or ignored. It is not in moments of self interest, or when the chance of profit outweighs the risk, it is when the rules are used against entire communities and populations.
It is now.

In the early days of the Russian war on Ukraine, I watched a lot of street interviews with Russians on their world views. There were a lot of people initially who were against the war. A few were for it, but the vast, vast majority said they didn’t follow politics or have an opinion. Just like the US, the freedom to speak openly was restricted and eventually anything critical of Putin became illegal.
Suddenly, it seems the tide is changing. Protests are starting to happen. Babushkas are alerting their communities to mobilization raids. People are forming a resistance. Sabotage of all kids, from bureaucrats making mistakes or losing files, to explosions in military bases are happening now.
The lies cannot be reconciled with what people see around them in real life.
Change is coming. Everywhere, all at once. We need to make sure we have the vision to make the best of the landing.

I'm very concerned about the lack of people standing up to lead the NDP right now.
In order to maintain any semblance of balance, we need strong voices on the left to hold Carney to the middle. It is worrying how far to the right he is being pulled to appease them.

I just tried the search assistant with duck duck go to find some information on an individual I am researching from the early 19th century, Jamaica.
It made up the answer. It said he was a maroon leader and that he had led a rebellion
He didn't. He was actually a slave owner who was part of the English militia.
I asked for references and it provided a list of books.
I asked if he was named in any of the books and it said no, but they described what life was like at the time.
So I told it who he actually was and it just spat my input back at me with the offer to help me dig deeper.
I knew it would be bad. Never suspected it would be unleashed on humanity this way.

I want to send a shout out to all the 1950 babies. Somehow I seem to suddenly know a lot of them. Just an anecdotal observation, but these were the kids who were turning 18 in 1968. The hippies.
My generation, Gen x were told they sold out when they “grew up”. Maybe some did, but my hippies all got educated and became activist, lawyers and judges and educators. They also never retired and are still working to address the planet’s inequities and resulting problems.

Time to start extracting ourselves from this relationship.
Our media may try to convince us that we're too dependent on them, but that was the old US. This unstable and volatile state cannot be trusted. To continue to try to restore trust when they have NOT given any indication that they want to is futile and just plain stupid.
We need to put our energy to actions that will help us and the remaining parts of the free world.
We should also be considering how we will deal with an influx of American refugees.

So here's a start. Things I think we need to address.
The justice system should limit the amounts that can be spent on civil suits based on what the person being sued can afford to pay.
I'm sure it isn't that simple, but we really need to look at how large corporations are able to bully smaller entities and individuals because they can afford to litigate them into oblivion.
What else is there?

We can't just keep fighting the people who follow them. We need to give them a clear option. A guidepost. A starting point on things we can agree on.

The Turks and Caicos is billionaire land. I lived there for a year.
They bring in almost slave labour from other islands and restrict their rights with work permits. They pay workers very little in an expensive place to live. There is no fresh water on the island other than reverse osmosis, which is not life sustaining.
Meanwhile, the billionaires have marble driveways.
We don't need more billionaires, thanks.

I was in Maputo, Mozambique during the civil war in the 1980s. One of the things that fascinated me was the fact that there were no newspapers, so people had taken to writing the news on a community chalk board.
When I saw the chalkboard, I was confused. Who reports the news? Who edits what gets posted? There was no one around protecting it. How did they secure it?
It turns out, the news was essential. It was information about where to find necessities or news on areas to avoid.

In high school, I had a teacher that was a former hippy for an English course called Communications. She spent the better part of the year teaching us about advertising, political advertising and more importantly, subliminal advertising.
