I also think I'm all in on @npub19rt…adh9 now. I might need to switch from Zen.
It's taken a while to get it set up how I like it, but it seems way faster than Zen, and I'm so used to working with Chromium's dev tools.

My only gripe really. This is a power user’s browser without the corporate-startuppy vibe that Arc had.

Hmm... workspaces are not in profiles/containers. This is a key feature for me and may be the deal breaker. Zen Browser has this and it works so well for me. Better than separate windows. Am I missing something?
(I want something like workspaces, in the same window and with the same settings, but with a different set of cookies/storage like profiles have).

Ugh. Class groups are just terrible.
So are most parental controls.
But you’re doing the right thing. Unfettered access is so bad. Stick with it. And know that there are positives too.

Having said that, I’m retreating from streaming services to own music and video more. And I increasingly have offline devices for things where additional tech started out good, but has just enshittified to the point of being annoying!
(P.S. Sad that I’m in Ireland when WDC is on. Would have been great to meet you!)

Yeah, but that’s a specific application. Specific AIs for specific applications can work really well. And that is nothing new.
LLM’s though… are good at making words. I call it the more machine. You give it words and it gives you more words like the words you gave it. That’s it. That’s all it does. But it’s sold as such more and it isn’t.

Yeah. I hate all those things about it.
I only really keep trying it because I see so many others saying it’s amazing and I wonder what it is that I’m missing or doing wrong.
But the more it try it the more I’m convinced it’s proponents are wrong.
(I’m also seeing less and less proponents and more being critical. So either it’s deliberately being made worse or people are realising what was true all along!)

I keep trying the AI assistants.
Just to see.
I thought I’d found a place that was good for them.
Auditing a bunch of React components to rate their complexity based on some very specific rules that I had already written.
With a bit of extra detail in the rules it seemed pretty good at this.
So I asked it to analyse all files in a directory using the specified rules and…
…it missed a file!
If it is incapable of following the most basic instruction, how do I trust it with… well… anything?!

I saw. My wife and I have talked about how growing up in the 90s was exceptional. We didn’t really know war, and when we did it was very much somewhere else.
We forget - or never knew - that that was exceptional.
Still. The sense of destruction and futility is overwhelming. Who actually gains anything? 😢

On my trip to the local arboretum on Friday, I picked up a disposable vape that had been discarded at the foot of an ancient tree.
First of all: OMG WTF???
Second: I’m now trying to recycle it. I am determined. It is ONE VAPE, and, fine, you can vape, I drink coffee, it’s good. But I am a RESPONSIBLE HUMAN BEING.
And so the journey begins. The local corner shop guy looked at me like no one had ever asked if they could recycle a vape before.
So… where now?

So my kid (13) is making a game in Godot. It’s very impressive. He’s done all of the beautiful art and animation himself and has even made a trailer!

Oh, and the futility room is just a room that we chuck all the random stuff in that doesn’t go anywhere else.

I am ACTUALLY doing this build myself.
This is the old back door of the original house. It’s now an alternative doorway to our “futility room”, but we don’t use it.
I’ve had the idea for ages to make it a little set of “pantry” shelves.
And despite nothing in this godforsaken house being straight - the doorway height varies by 27mm front to back! - this thing is LEVEL IN BOTH DIRECTIONS!!!! 🙌💪

It's such a personal thing. All these things are. We can share our experiences, but, really, you should do you with no shame or judgement. 😃
I have never got to grips with big monitors and fancy window management. I have one 27" monitor and I have my laptop open next to it.
My window management keys:
- Move windows between monitors
- Maximise (not full-screen-mode, just take up the whole screen)
That's it. But with powerful app switching shortcuts to help.

Well you don’t learn it all at once. Like command line stuff. You add to it over time as you discover it. And there are common patterns too which helps.

All the freakin time. New doc. Save. Save As. Close window. So many in the browser: new tab, switch tabs, focus search bar, search in page. GitHub has great shortcuts. Gmail has shortcuts. IDEs/editors have tons. Loads of tools have keyboard-activated command palettes. Graphics apps have loads and are MUCH easier to use with them. Formatting shortcuts in document writing tools. Alfred/Raycast/Spotlight. Just loads. All the time. I even use a Mac app called RCmd as a keyboard app switcher.
