I already have an open lighting channel running on my node with funds ready to spend. I just want to use LNbits to control those same funds. Why would I need to send that money away from my own self-custody lighting node wallet over to some kind of custodial lightning wallet, just to then turn around and send it back to LNbits?

2026-10-18 17:58:52 UTC

Why can’t you fund your LNbits Lightning Wallet from your own Lightning Node? Could someone please explain the logic here?

Also… while we are still early, we should at least make an attempt to weed out some of the spooks. I’m sure the bots would be down for some assistance in this area. At least we can find out what is the estimated ratio of pleb to spook? Yes, no? Am I crazy for asking?

You should also have a second bucket of BTC where you spend and replace to promote MOE aspect. Why should anyone care what Michael Seller is doing with his bitcoin? He doesn’t practice what he preaches and he is most likely compromised. I really enjoyed his discussions early on and that information remains valuable, but he can no longer be trusted or even taken seriously in my opinion.

It’s all easy man. I mean if they’re completely new to computers in general, they can just use the native wallets on Nostr apps like Primal, but if you really care about them, we just need to take the time to sit down with people in person the old fashioned way and really show them how to do it right the first time. I mean would you want to transfer your funds directly from a KYC exchange straight to a Nostr App and then Zap a bunch of Feds by mistake? We are so early in Bitcoin and now this Coldcard thing has been a huge setback. If we teach people the easy way (wrong way/not self-sovereign) to use Bitcoin, they will just end up getting rugged and even if it’s only $20 they lose, they may become disillusioned or cynical, maybe forever. If you really want to help them, they need to start with research and digging down the rabbit hole. If they haven’t read at least 1 book about Bitcoin, then maybe don’t bother giving them an easy out, it may do more harm than good in the long run.

Never trust a hardware wallet to generate your seed phrase. There is always the risk of supply chain attack.
You can use the Ian Coleman Tool offline to generate a new seed phrase.
Caution! There are a ton of fake Ian Coleman websites so double check that you have entered the correct website.
Save the page to your desktop and then shut off your internet connection before using the tool to generate a new seed phrase. Do not ever use copy/paste function for this! Write it down on a piece of paper the old-fashioned way until you are able to engrave it onto a metal plate. Then light that paper on fire until it burns to dust and you are good to go!

Fiat gets printed out of thin air so they don’t need your tax money for Universal Basic Income and we could never cover the cost anyway. We’re already $40T in debt without UBI. We will definitely need UBI since Artificial Intelligence and Robotics will eventually take over the job market. The debt amount will just start moving up exponentially with UBI. It’s a completely broken system and getting worse. Long term we are looking at a Debt Jubilee which is fancy talk for bankruptcy followed by WW3.

Sats vs Bitcoin is like comparing drops of water to pools of water. It’s all water. Now Lightning on the other hand is a separate currency. It’s a layer 2 protocol built on top of the blockchain.
Think of it like using chips at a casino instead of cash even though you still refer to the chips as dollars since they can be easily traded back and forth.
Same thing with the Lightning network where people refer to the payments as Sats, but we know it’s actually Lightning currency.

Once you move your freshly self-custodied #bitcoin away from its first home outside of the exchange to the next wallet address, it is no longer KYC bitcoin. Sure it tracks back to you, but that new wallet address could belong to anyone. There is no way to prove that you control those sats anymore. The same is true if you trade bitcoin for Monero. The bitcoin will always trace back to you forever. The difference is that you don’t have any control over how your Monero trading buddy spends your previously KYC’d bitcoin. Why not just spend it yourself? Personally I think the KYC question is a type of FUD that will resolve itself over time. As people begin spending their bitcoin on goods & services.

If you are starting from scratch I would avoid Start9. It uses an old Chinese distro of Linux which doesn’t sit right with me. (See screenshot). Also, Start9 claims you can download to your device for free, but in practice it does not work. They really expect you to buy their pre-built models. Umbrel is tried and true. I recommend flashing UmbrelOS on a Raspberry Pi model 5 with 8GB - 16GB RAM and an SSD with at least 2TB memory to make it future proof.
