During Easter in Finland, children (especially girls) will dress up as Easter witches, and go door to door, carrying willow twigs decorated with colourful feathers and crepe paper. In return for treats, these "witches" will give a twig to each house as a blessing to drive away evil spirits.

The Uffington White Horse is a prehistoric hill figure, 110 m (360 ft) long, on Whitehorse Hill in England. It was formed from deep trenches filled with crushed white chalk, some time between 1380 and 550 BC. When the mountain giantess Skadi demanded that the Norse gods make her laugh, Loki tied one end of a cord to a nanny goat's beard and the other end to his own testicles. The goat and Loki yanked each other back and forth. Their frantic squealing made Skadi laugh.

Thoth was an Egyptian moon god. The moon's phases made it pivotal in early astrology / astronomy, and its cycles organized much of Egyptian society's rituals and events. Thus, Thoth became seen as a god of wisdom, and of the measurement and regulation of events and time.

When a strange light is seen at night in the Welsh wilderness, often it's a pwca's candle. These black-furred goblins love to play nasty tricks. Sometimes pwcas turn into animals (such as horses), other times they use their candles to lead travelers into bogs or off cliffs.

After Loki murdered the Norse god Baldur, the other gods imprisoned Loki. In order to create restraints to hold the shapeshifter, Odin turned Loki's son Narfi into a huge wolf, who tore apart Nari (one of Loki's other sons). Then Odin bound Loki with Nari's entrails.

The vegetable lamb of Tartary is a plant-animal of European folklore said to inhabit the Middle East. The plant produces sheep as its fruit, which remain connected to it by an umbilical cord and so can only eat foliage that grows nearby. Likely inspired by the cotton plant.

Owain (or "Ywain") was one of King Arthur's warriors. He had a strong bond with animals, and his closest companion was a black lion. In Welsh myths, Owain also commanded the 300 Ravens of Kenverchyn - a host of giant ravens that could destroy almost any human army.

The adar llwch gwin were huge birds (or possibly griffins) in Welsh myth. Drudwas ap Tryffin owned a pair. Just before he dueled King Arthur, Drudwas ordered them to kill the first man to enter the battlefield. However, Drudwas accidentally entered first, so his birds tore him to pieces.

The most famous Welsh Christmas wassailing tradition is when a troupe carries a horse skull on a pole (the "Mari Lwyd") to a house and sings a song requesting admittance. Once inside, the Mari Lwyd runs around neighing and snapping its jaws, creating havoc and scaring children.

When a charging wild boar is speared, the boar is often so enraged that it keeps on charging, even if that drives the spear further into its body. In some versions of the legend, the dying King Arthur similarly charges up Mordred's spear to kill him. In other versions, the roles are reversed.

In Greek mythology, the Gorgons were three monstrous sisters with snakes for hair and a petrifying gaze. Two of them (Stheno and Euryale) were immortal while the third (Medusa) was mortal. The Roman poet Ovid claimed that Medusa was once human, which doesn't explain why her sisters are monsters.
