The consequences of going off the gold standard as explained by Murray Rothbard in, "What Has Government Done to Our Money":
"But whether Treasury or Central Bank, the effect of fiat issue is the same: the monetary standard is now at the mercy of the government, and bank deposits are redeemable simply in government paper".
In other words, our store of value for time and energy spent working is placed in a piece of paper the government can, and does, print.

In the November 2025 Future of Freedom print edition, Jacob Hornberger makes a compelling argument connecting the massive killings orchestrated by the "national-security establishment" (done in the name of 'national security'), and the regularly occurring mass killings in the U.S.
In 'A Sick Society, Part 1', Hornberger contends the "off-kilter" people among us are subconsciously tuned into something standard Americans choose not to see - "that the U.S. national-security state itself is a mass killer".
Could it be the invasion and killing of innocent human beings in Iraq, Afghanistan, Gaza, and countless other countries, has birthed an evil virus in the psyche of the "off-kilter" people in America? Does the continuous killing of human beings around the globe, brushed off as collateral damage, or as Donald Rumsfeld so elegantly once stated, "stuff happens", dehumanize life, and serve as food for the virus to metastasize? A book I’m reading, The Men We Need by Brant Hansen, has a great quote by the Greek philosopher Heraclitus. This quote is applicable today as it was 2500 years ago, and summarizes how our ever evolving life intersects with our ever changing society.

Great piece by Jeffrey A. Tucker via The Epoch Times about F.A. Hayek and his popular book, The Road to Serfdom.
A particular striking paragraph in Tucker's piece is the following quote of Hayek:
“The word ‘truth’ itself ceases to have its old meaning. It describes no longer something to be found, with the individual conscience as the sole arbiter of whether in any particular instance the evidence (or the standing of those proclaiming it) warrants a belief; it becomes something to be laid down by authority, something which has to be believed in the interest of the unity of the organized effort and which may have to be altered as the exigencies of this organized effort require it.”
When I think about the quote above, and the government's response to #Covid, pieces of the Covid puzzle start to connect.
Tucker asserts, "There are many such postulates around today, points that you are supposed to believe even though you might have doubts about the evidence. Public health is a good example. The wars over vaccines are no longer about health; they are about compliance and shame for those who have doubts".
The final piece that completes the puzzle is concluded towards the end of Tucker's piece, yet leads me looking for the beginning of the next puzzle: the implementation of totalitarian at the next level.

The average American works 43 years (factoring in vacation time, holidays, and sick leave), or 1,944 hours per year (after time off), or 83,600 hours in their lifetime.
The question everyone should be asking is: What am I working for? What is the reason I spend my time doing X when I would rather be doing Y?
While the rare person may answer for self fulfillment, let's be honest - how many of you would continue showing up for work if your employer said you will no longer be paid? Would you go to work tomorrow, or would you spend your day doing something you love to do? Therefore, I think it's safe to most of us are working for money. Unfortunately, this is where most stop questioning.
The next question is likely one of the biggest questions most people never ask, especially considering they'll spend 43 years of their life working for this thing.... What is money?
Unfortunately, even those who have years of education, and degrees from prestigious universities may not be able to answer this question. Our education system has prepared us to work for 43 years, but has not taken the time to help us understand the one thing most of us are working for: money.
So, what is money?
* Money is a store of value: a way to trade your labor today for something you want or need in the future.
e.g. you earn 10 apples today for mowing the lawn. You only need to eat 1 apple, so you store the other 9 for future use.
* Money is a medium of exchange: exchanging something you have for something you want or need.
e.g. You decide you want a carrot today instead of an apple, so you exchange one of your apples with the local farmer for a carrot.
* Money is a unit of account: a common denominator for determining value.
e.g. Of your remaining 8 apples, you decide you want a pumpkin pie, but there are 3 different pumpkin pies for sale at the local farmer's market. One pie is 8 apples, one pie is 5 apples, and one of the pies is 2 apples. All 3 pies look and smell delicious, so how do you know which pie is the best value? You use the common denominator (apples) to determine which pie will bring you the best value.
While there is much more to explore on the topic of money, for now I encourage everyone to ask yourself: how does the money I'm trading my time for hold it's value? If you find your money is not performing it's role as a store of value very well, you may want to seek another option.

Richard M. Ebeling's piece titled, "Ludwig von Mises on Reducing the Size and Scope of Government", in the August 2025 edition of Future of Freedom, cites Felix Morley stating:
"so long as people believe that the national security is menaced by a foreign power which seems to make such outlay necessary. Great article by Ryan McMaken of the Mises Institute.
A few key points from the article:
* During August, the federal government paid out $111 billion in interest on federal debt. That’s more than the federal government paid to the Department of Defense ($78 billion) and only $32 billion less than what the federal government spent on Social Security.
* All this is partly why the White House is so desperate to pressure the FOMC and the Federal Reserve into cutting the target policy interest rate at the FOMC’s meeting next week. The US Treasury faces a challenge of refinancing more than $9 trillion in US debt during the next year.
* There’s a big downside here for regular people. If the Fed starts forcing down interest rates further, that will require the Fed to buy assets with newly created money and that means more monetary inflation. That’s likely to translate into both consumer price inflation (i.e., food, energy, healthcare, insurance) and asset price inflation (i.e., home prices)
* No country has ever taxed itself in prosperity.

How much does one need to retire comfortably?
According to information by @nprofile…sf8s, and per Northwestern Mutual’s 2025 study, the answer is: $1.26 Million!
What's more frightening is how inflation (spoiler alert: more inflation is coming soon) erodes our purchasing power. According to the information below, Americans who retired in 2000 with $1 Million would need almost $2 Million today (25 years later) to maintain the same purchasing power. Let this sink in for a moment, in a short period of 25 years, the government has reduced (stolen) your purchasing power by 50% via it's monetary policy!
A couple questions everyone should be asking themself right now:
1 - If the best and the brightest are in charge of our country's monetary policy (The Fed), why are we loosing 50% of our purchasing power in 25 years?
A) Maybe they really are not that smart.
B) They are really smart, but through manipulation and a corrupt system they are not working in our best interest.
C) The government mandated currency (USD) is not tied to any hard asset and can be printed at will (Money printer go brrrr).
2 - How can we stop the erosion of our purchasing power?
A) Run faster on the hamster wheel and try to make more money to win the inflation race?
B) Save in a hard asset, one the government cannot print at will.

What I find most interesting in this article is the change of prices from 1971 to today. According to the article, the average hourly wage in 1971 was $3.53. It’s now $31.46, up 8.9 times. However, the cost for an engineering degree at the University of Illinois has gone up 64 times in the same time span. And, as the author points out, the value of a college degree was worth more back in 1971 than it is today.

Just finished reading "The Comfort Crisis" by Michael Easter.
Great book about how the comforts of modern day life have removed us from the hardy and resilient lifestyle of our ancestors. While this tradeoff has benefits, like being able to live in climate controlled comfort 365 days of the year, it also has consequences, like a rise in chronic disease, obesity, and declining mental health.
The author weaves together a story about his personal experience elk hunting in Alaska with research from professionals in a variety of fields to bring the ready on an exciting journey explaining the comfort crisis, while also providing solutions on how we can bring back some discomfort into our lives.

If you have not seen this amazing video by @nprofile…l3zj , I highly recommend you watch it.
It's 39 minutes long, but you'll walk away with a solid understanding of why everything costs more today than just a few years ago (spoiler alert: it's not the result of greedy business owners as we've been told).
I recommend watching it in one sitting instead of in bits. We spend years of our lives working for dollars, you owe it to yourself to invest 39 minutes to understand the money we receive in exchange for our time.

When discussing why central banks don’t sell their gold, even after fiat currency stopped being redeemable for gold, the following statement from @npub1gdu…6nak is offered in The Bitcoin Standard:
“In this trade, the central bank would only gain a fiat currency it can print itself, and would lose an asset which will likely gain value over its own currency”.
While you set out your vision and goals for 2025, spend some time learning about fiat currency, like the US dollar, and what types of assets are likely to gain value over time.

I find it interesting that the United States occupies land in a foreign country (Cuba), but restricts the ability of US citizens to visit Cuba.
A quick internet search shows US citizens can travel to Cuba, IF the US Office of Foreign Asset Control (another government agency I did not know existed until today) grants permission.
"Authorized Categories of Travel: You must choose one of the 12 authorized categories of travel, as defined by the US Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC)".
Looks like in the "Land of the Free" movement is restricted.

Learned about the Travel Rule today. Unfortunately, government has inserted its tentacles into the crypto industry (#Bitcoin included) by requiring cryptocurrency service providers to provide the following personally identifiable information about their customers:
* Name and wallet address of the sender
* Sender’s physical address, national identity number, customer identity number, or date and place of birth
* Name and wallet address of the recipient.
Of course government sells this regulatory requirement as a "safety measure" to prevent money laundering and illicit activities (activities the government doesn't agree with, or is unable to skim off the top).

Using the @npub18kp…69c4 compound inflation calculator, a person making $50,000 25 years ago (1999), would need to make $98,500 in 2024 to maintain the same purchasing power . This example is using a 2.75% average inflation rate over the past 25 years.
Another point for consideration is the progressive nature of taxes. Someone making $98,500 is likely taxed at a higher rate than someone making $50,000. Therefore, the person making $50,000 would likely retain more of their income than the same person making $98,500.
So, who truly benefits from the combination of inflation and a progressive income tax system? 🤔
If only there was another option that was not subject to inflation…..
