@nprofile…20he I remember lugging around 100lb Sun 19" monitors, to get what was then a high resolution display, now a 34" flat panel has 2560x1440 resolution, better color rendition, weighs maybe 5lb, requires a simple display port instead of 3x18 insane cables. Yea I'll take the latter.

@nprofile…ryzy @nprofile…9ant I think we would have a better chance at arriving at real solutions, mapping a path to a better future for all of humanity, if we dropped the tribalism, accept the fact that our current versions of governments involve humans who are fallible but also temporary and that rather than getting over engaged in personalities our energy would be better spent developing solutions. What I see is a pie too small for the people, with everyone fighting over dwindling pieces and those pieces dwindling further because of the pie, energy, resources, and human lives, being spent on said fight when we now have at our disposal both the technology and the resources to make a pie large enough to satiate us all.

It speaks of Jesus speaking the world into existence, but without atmosphere there is no literal speech so what is meant by this? I think thought. And this fits by general belief that the material world view that consciousness is an epiphenomena is backwards, I believe consciousness -> information -> energy -> matter.

On the other hand 9/11 the evidence is more convincing, they hated Iraq and they wanted to involve us in a war against them, most of the people on the flight manifests of the aircraft were still at home so it was obviously forged, the skill required was more than could have been acquired in a few hours of Cessna training, and their objective of engaging the US against Iraq succeeded.

Second, space redistributes blood flow, without the effect of gravity, and gravity is still there it's just you are in a free fall in orbit so the effect is not felt, it tends to concentrate in the upper body distorting features.

@nprofile…ukt0 Problem I see with this setup, five different horizontal placements of speakers going to make for phasing issues, placing subwoofers in the corner is going to reinforce any room resonances which given the plain walls and partially bare wooden floors, will be plentiful. There really is no need for multiple subwoofers anyway as bass tends to not be very directional.

@nprofile…ufsm If, rather than getting REAL new energy sources in place, we just cut ourselves off from fossil fuels, leave the poor to freeze to death, we will eventually run out of economically retrievable fossil fuels, we will then be unable to power the farm machinery that grows our food or the trucks that move it to stores. Instead of being concerned about a one or two degree thermal change we ought to be being concerned about starving to death and pursuing technologies that actually have the potential to provide base load energy at scale such as molten salt breeder reactors, controlled hydrogen fusion, maser drilled geo-thermal, etc. In order to pursue these things we need a robust enough economy to do so and if we make fossil fuels artificially expensive we won't able to.

The metals (elements heavier than hydrogen and helium) aren't placed in our planet by our star, they are the remnants of previous generations of stars that have lived, died, gone supernova and spread those elements out into the universe. As far our Suns age, even though it has perhaps another 5 billion years of fuel left, part of it's natural evolution is to increase in size and brightness as it ages, and so within about 500 million years, it will boil all the water off the Earth and life will be done. So as humans, we've got one shot at becoming an interplanetary and hopefully interstellar race. Odds are good that if it took 4.5 billion years for us to arrive, another intelligent technological species is unlikely in the time remaining.

@nprofile…cj4p Aside from being a safe energy source, a thorium waste sink, we should be building molten salt breeders because at present they are the only working technology that can scale to the amount needed to replace fossil fuels. If we don't have a working alternative in place before the fossil fuels that are economically extractable exhaust, we all starve, so regardless of what you think about global warming this is an issue we need to address. Lastly molten salt breeder reactors would allow us to turn the long term actinides in nuclear waste into fuel, leaving only short term fission products which only have to be kept from the environment for 300 years or so and not the 100,000 to 1,000,000 years that actinides require.

@nprofile…46kf I like. Was not familiar with Blues Traveler but they remind me quite a bit of the Bare Naked Ladies. And I've always appreciated the use of an upright bass verses a bass guitar, they just have a full smoother sound. Early Bare Naked Ladies also used an upright bass but these days mostly just bass guitar and it really is a step down.

Wayland is, as near as I can tell, an interface to provide an efficient gaming experience and not much more.
