I suspect that in a society where the state doesn't have a monopoly on violence, and in a less litigious society, strangers might stick up for others more often. This is just my suspicion, though, without a lot of evidence to back it up.
Police are not going to stop people from beating you up, because they don't care and they're not there in the first place. Bystanders might be deterred from helping, if they think they'll go to jail for neutralizing your attacker.
Anarchists have a saying: Who helps us? We help us.

What finally pushed me over the cliff to calling myself an anarchist was the realization that what the government does or doesn't do has very very little to do with what the polity wants. We're getting stuff shoved down our throats that the vast majority of the public doesn't want. We've been trying to reform healthcare for decades; nothing happens.
And the realization that all government will trend in this direction, because _that's what they're for_.

This Ukraine shit is just too fucking much.
Nobody should honor the lie that there are "peace talks" going on. These are "divide the spoils" talks. Peace talks necessarily include the combatants, or they're just shitheads joking around in a room. The US has no authority to make any deal regarding Ukraine with anyone.
Trump says he could have made a deal with Ukraine getting "almost all of the land".
Well, how about keeping all of their sovereign soil, you fucking ghoul? How about they cede NO land to foreign invaders? Start with that deal, and work from there.
